"Bella!" Edward cried, and in a flash he was next to me. "Are you okay?" he asked, his face twisted in horror. I gasped in pain clutching my stomach. "My water broke." I choked out.

Edward's face went paler than I though possible and he immediately jumped into action. He scooped me up in his arms (wrapping dry coat around me and being very cautious not to touch my stomach) and ran to the car. He placed me softly in the front seat, buckled my seat belt, closed my door, and was in his chair before I had time to blink.

I was breathing heavily, shivering from his cold touch and the water, cries of pain mixing in with the breathing as Edward sped (140 miles per hour) to the hospital. When we arrived in the parking lot Edward picked me up and carried me into the hospital as fast as was humanly possible.

The nurses got us to a room quickly and Edward took me to the bed and gently laid me down. He tried to soothe me by holding my face and breathing that everything would be all right, but I couldn't ignore the horrible pain in my stomach.I whimpered while we waited for a doctor, holding Edward's hand for support. He kissed my forehead whispering comforting words to me until the doctor came in.

It wasn't Carlisle because I had already made sure that it wouldn't be him. Edward couldn't understand my embarrassment, but I told him it was just a human emotion. "Are you sure you want to be here?" I asked Edward, but it wasn't audible to anyone, but him.

He looked at me his eyes disbelieving. "I am going to be here for you, Bella. I will always be here for you." He whispered fiercely, holding my face in between his hands and kissing my forehead. The hours dragged on and the contractions worsened, when finally the nurse said it was time for the baby to come.

The pain was excruciating as I pushed with all the strength in my body, squeezing Edward's hand so hard his expression looked surprised. I screamed as I pushed. It felt as if I was pushing everything out of my body along with the baby.

Tears came to my eyes from the pain and I screamed even harder as the doctor announced that he could see the head. Relief washed over me as the pain stopped and the wailing of a baby was heard. "It's a girl!" The nurse informed us. Edward beamed and kissed my lips softly. We listened to the baby's cries as she was washed off by the nurse. Then she walked over to us and laid the newborn baby in my lap.

The feeling was overpowering and my eyes began to feel with tears of joy. There was no word to describe the wonderful feeling that this was my baby and I was a mother.I cradled her in my arms and looked down at her tiny fingers. She was beautiful. Her hair was a very dark brown, almost black and her skin very, very pale.

I handed her to Edward. He smiled his crooked smile and held her tiny fingers. "What's the name?" The nurse asked us. We had talked about names and had decided on one for a boy and one for a girl. The name we had chosen for the girl suited her well. "Ava Elizabeth Cullen." I answered, smiling and looking down at my child. My child. I loved the sound of it.

We sat there holding Ava in turns until the nurse insisted that she needed to be cleaned more thoroughly. I handed Ava to her reluctantly and sighed. The pain was all over now the baby was finally out.

Edward ran his fingers through my hair and murmured. "I love you." He kissed my lips passionately and my heart monitor beeped louder, the room spun. He pulled away smiling at the heart monitor. "I love you, too." I whispered.
