My feet pounded against the ancient bricks, sweat poured into my eyes, but all I could do was keep moving. I had to be fast enough, I had to be strong enough. I couldn’t let him die!

I can see the clock tower in the distance. Its hands only seconds away from chiming noon. My legs are lead as I slosh through the fountain water, I stumble and scrape my hands but I can’t give up. And suddenly everything slows.

I see him, the angle of my dreams, standing there in the dark alleyway. In the back ground I can hear the chimes of the clock. I think my head will explode and my heart might give out any second, but I find that I am still moving.

Two cloaked figured seize him now, there dragging him away and he’s not even fighting back!

“Edward!” I scream at the top of my lungs. He doesn’t hear me and thirty seconds too late I crash into alley only to find myself alone.

I failed. I failed Alice, and the rest of the Cullens, I failed Edward. I felt the cool cement under my cheek as my legs finally gave out. Ten feet away from me there was a festival going on. Happy families where continuing on with there lives, while all around me it was like the entire world was crashing down and landing on my chest.

I pulled my knees up to my chest and wrapped my arms around me. I had to keep it together. I had to stand up and go home. There was Charlie, and Jacob, and Alice was waiting for me. She doesn’t know what happened. She doesn’t know that I failed.

The tears wouldn’t end as the lights went out. Everyone had gone by now leaving just me and a flickering street light alone in the empty streets of Italy.

I don’t know how long I laid there. Completely unmoving, finally letting all the memories come back. Us in the meadow, those days at Charlie’s, the ride home from Port Angles. It tore me apart and I just let it consume me whole.

I felt myself being peeled away from the ground and two cold stone arms around me. I knew at once that they weren’t his. They where too thick, too muscular. This was the end for me, I was being carried away in a vampires arms to who knows where. It was over and for some reason I could care less.

I could feel the temperature change around me, I was carried through several doors. I kept my eyes closed. I wanted the last thing I ever saw to be Edward.

“Felix what did I tell you about bringing food home?”

“Shut it Heidi, she’s hurt.” His voice was sharp.

“Since when do you care about others feelings?” I felt his chest vibrate before I heard the growl. It was dangerous.

“Don’t disturb me.” He turned around and I felt us running. I held onto the stranger tighter, because he was moving fast, and as long as I was moving then nothing could catch up to me.

I was put down on a bed, still with my eyes closed as tight as possible.

“Kill me, please. I don’t want to feel this anymore.”

“Shh, I want to help you.” I felt his cool marble hand stroke from my temple to my jaw and it sent chills all through out my already numb body.
