I stared down into the jar of my uncle’s moonshine. I’d already had 12, and was beyond tipsy. I took another gulp, and my cousin stared to play on his violin. I jumped up on to the table and began to dance. Just when everyone was starting to cheer really loud, the police bust in.
"No one move! You are all under arrest for moonshine in a dry county!" Yelled a cop right before he grabbed onto my leg, and the table broke putting us both on the floor, fighting. I was a lot bigger than him, but he was really fast, and he kept dodging my blows. Strangely each time I actually managed to connect fist with flesh, the voice that cried out sounded an awful lot like my brother, Bubba.
"Owww! Emmett, Emmett! Come on man! Stop it! Wake up!" I opened my eyes, and saw not the dimly lit bar, but the bright sun, and Bubba’s face.
"Huh?" Groggily I sat up. "Sorry man, was dreaming." He snorted.
"No kidding! Whatever, its all good. Momma sent me out to find you and tell you to get a deer for dinner." I nodded.
"Did you bring my gun?" He handed it to me, and grinned.
"I’m also supposed to tell you, Caroline will be there tonight." I groaned. Caroline had some kinda thing for me ever since we were kids. I stalked out into the woods, all the while grumbling about pushy women. Within about an hour and a half I had spotted my deer. I shot it-perfect heart shot- and went to field dress it. I heard rustling behind me, and when I turned to look, it was a bear, charging right at me. I mauled me for a bit, before the immense pain knocked me out for a bit. I have no idea how long I was out, but when I woke up, I stared up into the eyes of the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. I knew she as an angel. She was carrying me and we were moving so fast, everything blurred. I passed out again, only to be re awakened by even worse pain. I knew that I was in Hell, because every time I opened my eyes, I saw God and my angel staring down at me. After what had seemed like a life time, the pain began to fade. I looked up into the face of my angel.
"Am I in heaven?" She laughed, maybe a bit bitterly.
"I’m sorry, no."
"But he is God-" I pointed to the beautiful man. "And you are my angel." I smiled, confident that I had figured everything out.
"I promise you, you are not in heaven."
"But I just got out of Hell-" I realized I didn’t know her name. "Angel, what is you name?"
"Rosalie." I repeated, knowing I was already in love with her.
"I’m Emmett. Why can’t I hear my heart? Why can I hear so good?" She hesitated for a few seconds before answering.
"You aren’t human."
"Of course I am!" I didn’t believe her.
"Emmett, you are a vampire."
