My Last Hope
Ok just a warning I am terrible at summaries. What if Jasper wasn't meant for Alice? What if there was no Bella and Edward was with Alice? What if Jasper had been part of James's coven? What if the Cullens have a new member named Samantha? What if Jasper and Samantha(Sam to most) were meant for each other and just didn't know it? A/U I disclaim. Stephenie Meyer owns all recognizable characters and plot lines.
At first this is probably not going to make a lot of sense but this idea randomly popped into my head so I figured I’d run with it. Ok so lets make sure we have this straight. Everyone’s a vampire, Alice and Edward are together and Samantha recently joined the Cullens. Recently meaning right after they moved from Forks though she had been a ‘vegetarian’ for a long time before that. Jasper is wandering with Laurent, Victoria and James and is a human drinker. Everyone’s powers are the same and Samantha’s you will find out later. Since there isn’t a Bella(she just doesn’t exist) that means that the coven’s will have to meet somewhere else.

Why did I have to say that? I should have known that it was a bad idea. I am such an idiot. The first woman I actually like after Maria and I have to go and make her run away.
“Don’t you wanna get it? Gotta do if before it’s gone. Come on, come on. Get your, get your rock on. Don’t you wanna do it. Gotta do it that’s what you want. Come on, come on. Get your, get your rock on.” I heard Emmett start singing from downstairs.
“SHUT UP EMMETT!!!!” Alice yelled at him and I don’t mean like speaking loudly I mean really yelling. “I’M TRYING TO WATCH SAMANTHA’S DECISIONS AND I CAN’T CONCENTRATE WITH THAT HORENDACE NOISE IN THE BACKGROUND!” Her saying that brought me back down to Earth. It was my fault that she ran away and I wasn’t doing anything about it.
“I’ll be back later.” I said at a normal volume. I knew that everyone would hear.
I followed Samantha’s trail for miles. She obviously hadn’t planned on going anywhere seeing as she hadn’t stopped. At one town I stopped and found out that her trail cut off back towards home. It was fresh and I followed it quickly. I was focusing on the trail so I didn’t notice the figure in front of me till I ran into him, or should I say her. Samantha looked up at me with shock and fear in her eyes. I could tell she was about to take off again and I tried to calm her using both my emotional control and words. “No you’re okay. I just wanted to bring you back home.”
“Whatever you’re doing please stop.” So she had noticed my calming waves.
“Please come back, everyone misses you.” She took two steps back and turned to go the other direction. “Please.” I begged. Something in my voice must have told her the depth of either my feelings or the feelings of the rest of the family. It was strange how after just one day I considered myself part of their family.
She seemed to consider it for a moment but after a few seconds she started walking back towards the Cullen mansion. “I’m sorry.” I said after a long silence.
“It’s okay, I overreacted. It’s just that I never really got over Jason’s death in the 300 years that I’ve been walking the Earth.” I noticed how she didn’t say 300 years alive. “I think it even got intensified with vampirism.” She seemed lost in thought so I just slowed to her walking speed, as much as I hated going slow, and kept pace next to her. The sun was already starting to set and I knew it would probably be early morning by the time we got back to the Cullen household.
Just walking in silence was boring me so I decided to strike up a conversation. Of course I knew which subjects to stay away from and which were good to go into, but keeping them straight in my head while listening to her would prove to be a challenge. Emotions are always extremely strong in vampires and that means that a spike in one can throw us off guard and distract us which is what Samantha did to me.
“Do you like cars?” Oh good going Jasper, pick the first question that comes to mind and of course it’s a stupid one.
She laughed quietly, shocking me, and answered. “Yes, but not the super fast cars that Rosalie and Edward have. I prefer a good heavy-duty truck. I have a Nissan Titan in black that Rose fixed up so that it would go the same speed, if not faster, as the Cullen’s cars.”
“I take it Rosalie is the mechanic of the group.” I said just to keep her talking.
“Yeah, she has always loved cars and is good at fixing them. Like the time Edward crashed his Volvo because of a turtle.” She laughed again and I had a feeling it was a big joke in the household.
“A turtle?” I asked.
“Yep. He was driving with Alice, Rose and myself and we were headed back towards home after an extended hunting trip and randomly a turtle started out into the middle of the road. ‘A turtle!’ Edward had yelled and we were all laughing at him. You see Edward has an irrational fear of turtles so of course he tried to kill the turtle by running it over. But this turtle has like a bullet -proof shell and the car just bounced against it. Since Edward loves speed he hit the turtle with enough power that it bounced the car back into a tree.” She stopped to laugh again. “Ah good times.” She shook her head and smiled at me.
“A turtle?” I repeated.
She nodded. “I don’t know what started the irrational fear of turtles, but Alice and I like to put pictures of turtles on his mirror and in the house and then videotape him freaking out and post it online. It’s a lot of fun. Turtle’s blood smells about as bad as a werewolf so I had a pet one for a while. That really got to Edward. I’m sure he would have killed him if he could have gotten close enough.”
“Wait werewolves?” I asked. I’m sure I would have shouted it if I could, but I was in shock.
“Yeah, there is a pack in Washington in a small town called Forks. I’ve heard a little bit about them, but I’ve never actually seen one. I’ve smelled them before and trust me they are about the worst thing you can possibly smell. Nasty stuff.” She crinkled her nose and I looked up quickly to keep from staring.
“It’s a full moon tonight.” I commented.
“Yes I suppose it is.” She randomly dropped onto her back and stared up at the sky. “I love the moon and the stars. They’re always there even if you can’t see them and it’s just comforting to me.”
I sat down next to her and stared at her. The moonlight reflected slightly off her skin, sending out a few rays of the sparkly diamond like sparkles.
I stared at the moon till it started to go down in the sky as dawn approached. I was thinking about Jasper and why exactly I had run away. I knew that Jasper liked me and I knew that when you found a mate as a vampire it was that much stronger than that of a human, but still it didn’t seem right to go with Jasper while I still loved Jason.
I stood up again and Jasper followed a moment after. I started jogging along the trail I had started on and kept a comfortable distance between Jasper and myself. I was still lost in thought as we jogged and I kept my slow pace to give me time to work through the jumbled mess that was my mind at the moment.
We ran for a couple of hours and it was almost twilight again when we reached the river close to the house. When we got there, a small flying person immediately knocked me onto my back.
“Don’t you ever do that to me again!” Alice said as she hugged me.
“Sorry Alice.” I smiled sheepishly and stood up. Alice clung to my neck and I lifted her off her feet as I stood.
I walked into the house with Alice still clinging to my neck and sat down on one of the couches. “Edward do you want to come get your wife so I can think in peace?” I called, well said at a slightly louder than normal voice.
He appeared with a smile and pulled Alice off me and away to their room. I really did not want to know what was going on in there. “Has Alice shown you your room yet?” I asked Jasper who had followed me into the house.
“No.” He said.
“Well come on then.” I stood up and ran up the stairs and into the corridor. “Rosalie, Alice, mine, yours.” I said to each door, pushing open the last one to reveal the dark blue room. Alice had painted the walls a deep dark blue and set up a dresser, dark blue couch, table and desk chair and a TV. “I hope this will do for now. If there’s anything you need or want to change just ask Alice or Esme.” I said and then walked out the door and entered my room.
I stretched out on my couch and closed my eyes, begging for a sleep that would never come. Randomly an image appeared before me.
I was standing in a meadow, with a small stream ran through the middle. A figure stood on the other side of the stream with the sun reflecting off his features. I walked closer and jumped the stream, feeling a pull towards the figure, I decided it was a man, on the other side. As I approached him he looked up and met my eyes. “Jason.” I whispered and he smiled at me.
“Hello Samantha, my darling.” I felt the tears I couldn’t shed well up in my eyes. “Darling you don’t have to hold onto me anymore.” He said gently. I ran to him and threw myself into his arms.
“But I can’t help it. I love you.” I said into his chest.
“But we weren’t meant to be. Go. Be happy. Find someone that makes you happy. The world would be a better place if you smiled everyday.” He held me at arms length to make sure this was sinking in.
“That sounds like something you would say.” I whispered.
He smiled down at me and hugged me close for the last time. “Let go. Go be with a man you can love. I’ll be waiting for when it is your time to join me.”
“Vampires aren’t supposed to go to Heaven.” I whispered in a tormented voice.
“You will find me somehow, when it is your time, but now it is not and you must make a life for yourself.” He caressed my cheek with his fingertips and started to disappear into the mist. “I’ll be waiting.”
“No! Don’t go! Jason!” As the last of him disappeared I dropped to my knees, dry-sobbing. “Jason.” I whispered for the last time.
