Emmett's Point of View
"SLAYER," the voice vibrated through the floor. This surround sound is awesome! Edward's probably just jealous that I thought of it and he didn't.
He looked at me and snorted. "Yeah, okay."
You know it's true, I thought smugly.
Edward smirked at me. "You may be the strongest but I am the fastest."
I looked at him, confused. What did that have to do with anything? He looked back at the screen. I continued to think about what he could mean. Ugh! This is annoying! Maybe he was just being random. . .NO! He's never random! That's my job! Unless he's jealous of my randomness too. I thought about that for a moment. Probably.
"KILLING SPREE," the TV said ominously.
"Bella, did you die again?" I asked incredulously. Honestly, I had never seen anyone die so many times in a video game.
"Nope," she said smugly, her eyes glued to the screen. I saw Edward's lips twitch.
I slowly turned my head to the TV. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I died!
"EDWARD!!!!!!!!" I yelled. "You distracted me!"
"You distracted yourself," he said, openly grinning by now.
Another shot rang out of the surround sound system.
"YES!" Jasper yelped in excitement. "I killed Emmett, I killed Emmett, I kille-" he sang.
"Since when does Major Jasper sing?" I asked, laughing.
"You're just jealous of my amazing singing skills!" Jasper said loudly.
"What singing skills?" I asked innocently.
Jasper growled. Before he could pounce on me Bella took the remote control and changed the channel.
"BELLA!" I yelled in outrage.
She ignored me and continued to flip through the channels. I walked towards her and she snuggled into Edward, who wrapped his arm around her. I grinned down at her and stretched out my hand to take the remote from her but Edward slapped my hand away.
"Get lost, loser," Edward sneered.
I put my hand on my heart, "I'M the loser now?" I asked him.
"You were always the loser," Jasper said absently as he watched the channels change.
"Thanks Jasper," I said sarcastically.
"Just tellin' you what's so obvious," he said pointedly.
"THANK YOU JASPER," I said loudly.
"Emmett, move! You're blocking the TV," Bella commanded.
I sat down next to her on the couch. What the heck is this? This is MY house! Shouldn't I be able to flip through MY TV?! Edward growled quietly. Guess not. . . I sighed.
"What is this?" I asked Bella.
"Cash Cab," she said quickly.
"Would you like to add anything to that?" I prompted. What the heck is the Cash Cab?
"A taxi in New York. If you get in the right one you are in a gameshow on TV. The driver asks you trivia questions on just about anything. You get money for each question you answer. As the questions get harder, their value goes up," Edward said matter-of-factly.
Woah, I thought. "Did you, like, memorize that from the computer or something?" I snorted.
"I WANNA GO IN THE CASH CAB!" Jasper complained.
What an amateur. This is how you do it. "Edward?"
He looked at me.
"Can we go in the cash cab?" I asked innocently. I put on my puppy dog face. "Please?"
"Nice try, Emmett," he said as he looked back at the TV. Dang it.
You force me to use Plan B, Edward. I thought. Good thing I have a back up plan.
"Hey Bella," I said.
"Hey," she said.
"Do you like this show?" I asked slyly.
"Yeah, it's pretty cool."
"How would you like to be in the cash cab?" I asked, abandoning all subtle plans.
She looked at me. "Really? That'd be awesome!"
Edward quickly looked at her. "Then let's go! Come on Emmett! I told you it would be a good idea!"
"Yeah Emmett!" Jasper said. What a suck up!
"It's not Thursday yet!" I reminded them.
"Oh yeah. . ." Jasper said sadly. "That stinks."
Edward sighed dramatically. "Come on! Bella wants to go in the Cash Cab! Let's go to New York City!" he said excitedly.
"WOOOOOOOO!" Jasper screeched, jumping up from the ground.
Edward grabbed the keys to his Volvo, but Jasper snatched them from him.
"What was that for?!" Edward asked, annoyed.
"We gotsta go in style!" Jasper said as he put on a pair of black sunglasses. I had to admit, he did look pretty awesome. Edward's head whipped around to face me. Crap, I thought. Edward grinned. "You're such a weird-o," he said laughing.
Jasper gave all of us a pair of sunglasses and told us not to take them off.
"Now can we go?" I asked impatiently.
Jasper put a finger on his chin. "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh," Jasper droned on and on and on and on and on. Oh gosh! He doesn't have to breath! He could go on forever!
I stared at him. Wow, that would be pretty funny to just do that forever. I would have to remember to try that sometime.
"Yeah, we can go now," Jasper informed us.
We put on our sunglasses even though it was raining outside.
"You've got mail!" the mailbox said as we passed it to get to the garage. Wow, when I wired that up, I didn't know it would work! SWEET! That is awesome!
"Emmett! Why on earth did you do that?!" Edward asked in frustration.
"Because it's awesome!" I said simply.
Duh. . . . I thought. Who wouldn't want that?!
He just shook his head and got the mail. He looked concerned as he got it, or maybe he was just jealous of ANOTHER genious idea I came up with all by myself!
He opened it and all of us crowded around him to read it.
It read:Dearest Friends,
I trust that you are well.
As you know it is almost Halloween. I have
planned a Costume Party here in Volterra on October 30th
starting at 6:00 at night and continueing for as long as you
like. I would love it if you would join me. I have invited
every vampire I could possibly think of. You may invite Miss
Bella Swan if you would like to. In fact, I simply insistthat she come. She is a most remarkable human. There will also be
a prize for the best and most creative costume. The prize is a
secret but I can assure you that it will be worth your while.
Hoping to see you there,
"AWESOME!" I yelled. I already knew what I was dressing up as. Alice'll probably have a vision about it and buy me the costume. I am not going to think about it at all because the mind-reader boy might steal my idea. I know how jealous he can get. . . Edward rolled his eyes.
Just get over it, I understand, don't worry, just admit it.
Dang. Before Edward could reply to that thought Bella spoke.
"That's nice," Bella remarked. "I think I'll go too."
"NO! It is too dangerous," Edward said seriously.
"Oh gimme a break!" Bella said in an annoyed voice.
"With that kit kat bar!" Jasper sang quietly. All of us looked at him and he looked down, embarrassed he said, "Sorry."
"Anyway," I said. "Bella's going because Aro wants her too. Who cares whether you do or not!"
"I DO want her to go. But I don't want her to get hurt," Edward said quietly.
"Awwwwww!" I said in a voice that mimicked Alice perfectly.
Jasper laughed. "Calm down Eddie. She's going. I'll stay with her too so that no mean vampires try to eat her."
"Thanks Jasper," Bella said dryly.
Edward sighed in defeat. "Fine you can go."
"Thanks dad," Bella said smirking.
"Boyfriend," he corrected.
"Boyfriend," she agreed.
They stared into eachothers eyes with such love that it made me want to puke. If I could. . .
I coughed. "Ahem."
Get a room!
Edward glanced at me and grinned.
Finally we made it to the garage. Edward hopped into the drivers seat of the Aston Martin and Bella sat in the front seat. Looks like I'm partying with Jasper in the back.
"The way I drive, we'll be there in five minutes!" Edward said smugly.
Jasper looked at his watch and said, "I'll time you, show-off!"
"Fine," Edward said.
As soon as we started moving out of the garage, Jasper started the timer.
"So, Emmett, what are you dressing up as for the costume party?" Edward asked slyly.
The little trickster.
Nice try. It's okay, talk to the therapist next to me. I'm sure he's great with the 'how do you feel' questions. He'll help you with your JEALOUSY problems.
"I AM NOT JEALOUS!" Edward yelled.
"In fact, I bet I could win that costume contest," Edward said smugly.
"No. I will totally own that party," Jasper said matter-of-factly.
"It's a challenge then!" I yelled. I loved challenges like these.
"You got that right!" Edward said.
"I'm in," Jasper stated. "I'm in to win!"
"You mean lose, right?" I corrected.
"Nope. I meant win," Jasper said quickly.
"No. Youdefinetly meant lose," Edward said sadly.
"DID TOO!" Edward and I yelled together.
"And no cheating with your stinkin' mind reading powers. Got it?" I threatened.
Edward sighed. "I'll try."
"You better. Or else the Major and I'll have a talk with you," I said, gesturing to me and Jasper.
Jasper grinned. "That sounds pretty fun."
"Doesn't it?" I asked rhetorically.
"I don't wanna have to hurt you guys," Edward said in a warning voice.
"Don't worry about that," Jasper said.
"Yeah, really. You just keep driving, buddy," I stated as I turned to stare out the window.
"What do you think I'm doing?" Edward asked in an annoyed voice.
Edward sighed in frustration and turn the radio on as loud as it could go. And let me tell you, it can go pretty loud. The music was blaring in my ears. Hey this tune is kinda catchy. . . . . . . . .
Nice choice, Cupcake, I thought.
"If you call me Cupcake one more time!" Edward yelled over the screaming music.
"What?! I can't hear you!" I lied, gesturing to my ears wildly with my arms.
"I said--" he started again.
"WHAT?!" I yelled over him.
He glared at me and turned to stare at the road again. Jasper laughed and high-fived me.
"Nice one, Emmett," He said so only I would hear.
I grinned. "Thanks."
