Wanda's POV

It was a week since the Cullens arrived, and I'd started to feel sick every morning. Ian hadn't noticed, somthing I was extremely grateful for. He'd probably think I was sick or something...perhaps I should speak to Bella. After all, she was the one who was most recently human, and I felt safe around her. I knew Ian was worried about me, but he had no reason to be. Bella wouldn't hurt any of us...she was like a big sister to me. She didn't treat me as patronisingly as most of the humans here did, and she was fun to talk to. I made up my mind, and waited for Ian to head off to find Jared to plan the next raid before I went to find the brown-haired vampire.

Bella's POV

I was aware that Wanda was looking for me, thanks to Edward. I thought I knew what she wanted, too. She had been ill the past few mornings, but I didn't think she'd put the pieces together yet. After all, she was only young. That she could be pregnant would be a massive shock to her. I smiled reassuringly when she approached me timidly, still looking a little ill.

"Good morning, Wanda. How are you feeling?"

"Not well," she admitted in her child-like voice. She was such a tiny thing - smaller than Alice - and she was so delicate, too. I instantly felt protective of her.

"Do you want to speak about it?" I asked quietly, and she nodded. She didn't seem surprised. I moved over on the bench I was sitting on, and Wanda sat beside me.

"I thought you might know why I'm getting sick...you're the most recent to have been human, and I don't think I'd be comfortable talking to Mel about it..."

"I know how you feel," I assured her. "I had the same problem. I didn't know who to speak to, but when I figured it out, I told Edward. We were both in shock," I added with a small laugh. Then, seeing her puzzlement, I sighed. "You've been getting sick in the mornings, yes? No other time?"

"No...just a little nauseous, but then it passes and I'm fine," she agreed. I nodded. This sounded like pregnancy all right.

"Have you been having vivid dreams? Or nightmares?" I pressured. Wanda, poor little thing, looked surprised, shocked.

"Yes...but how...?" I cut her off with another question.

"How long has it been since you last bled? As in monthly-bleeding bled?" She paled.

"Too long," she whispered brokenly. I thought it was finally getting through to her. "It's been six weeks...that's too long! Am I...I must be...am I?" She turned her wide grey eyes to me and I nodded.

"You're pregnant," I whispered. "I went through all this in the space of a day."

"A day?" she squeaked. I nodded.

"I went through all the phases of pregnancy - including birth - in less than a month. Renesme grew so fast it was almost impossible to believe...I wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't happened to me," I told her. "But you'll be going through all this in nine months all up...do you want Carlisle to take a look at you? He's a more experienced doctor than Doc is," I said with a smile. Wanda nodded, but then burst into tears.

"Oh...How am I going to tell Ian?!"

Carlisle confirmed what I had deduced. He took one look at Wanda, took her pulse and listened to her body for a moment, and then nodded.

"You are pregnant, little one," he murmured. "The morning sickness started about a week ago, didn't it?" Wanda nodded, her eyes wide. I was the only other one there. Perhaps we should have gotten Jasper in here to calm her down a little...

"How will I tell Ian?" she mumbled again, sounding so pitiful and scared that I hugged her gently. She brought out my mothering instincts.

"I'll help you, if you like," I offered. "I'll be there if you want me to be," I added. Wanda turned her wide eyes on me.

"Could you? I'm...scared," she whimpered. I nodded and glanced at Carlisle. He smiled reassuringly at Wanda.

"Come on, little Wanderer," I whispered. "Let's go find Ian so you can speak to him." I was sure he would be elated. After all, he was that much in love with her...

"What?" Ian asked in a slight whisper, his blue eyes wide and locked on Wanda where she fidgited by my side.

"I'm sorry..." she started to whisper, but then he caught her in his arms and hugged her close, burying his face in her golden hair.

"Don't be sorry, Wanda," he murmured lovingly. I felt awkward, like I was intruding... "I just wasn't expecting it." She laughed shakily and wiped the tears from her eyes as she looked up into his eyes adoringly.

"I wasn't either...but..."

"Wanda, tell me what's bothering you," he whispered. She shook her head slightly. I looked away and played deaf. She was shy.

"If you don't want him or her, then..."

"Whatever made you think that, Wanda? Of course I want the child...I love you," he added, and I grinned at Wanda's intake of breath as he kissed her. Before they could remember my presence, I slipped away into the corridors of the thriving community.
