Wanda was nothing like any of the other souls I had seen from a distance. She wasn't as scared by violence as the soul they called Sunny, although she still didn't like it. She was in love with a human, without the ties of her body's previous owner. She and Melanie seemed very close, and I could see Jamie loved Wanda as much as he loved Melanie. It made me wonder how Wanda had come to live here with them all.

I got the chance to ask Wanda about that a couple of days later. I was in the kitchen, doing what I could. I could remember how to cook despite not being able to taste it properly, and I was helping Wanda with the baking. There was something about her that drew me to her...I just couldn't tell what it was.

"So how did you come to be here, Wanda?" I asked as we were waiting for the rolls we were making to bake. She glanced at me and smiled.

"Originally I was in Mel's body...she wouldn't fade away. I did everything I could to irritate her, and she didn't like me. I was afraid of her, but I didn't hate her. I couldn't. She's strong, and I have always admired strength. Eventually, when she could trust me, she helped me to get here. We were looking for Jamie and Jared. Jeb found us, and although he could have killed us he brought us back here. He got everyone here used to me. It took about four days after the raiding party left," she said with a shrug. Ian smiled down at her, but his smile disappeared at her next words. "Kyle tried to kill me a few tmes, but he never managed."

"Finally, she admits it," Ian muttered. Wanda glanced at him, then away.

"I wasn't talking about that," she replied. "I was talking about when you, Brandt and Kyle came looking for me that first time." To my surprise, Ian flinched, his eyes and face becoming agonised.

"I regret ever hurting you," he whispered, and I politely pretended I couldn't hear. Wanda touched his cheek lightly, as if forgiving him.

"You didn't know me," she murmured, before remembering my presence and blushing. I smiled at her.

"I know how you feel," I assured her dryly. "But if you were in Mel's body, how did you...?"

"Doc. I showed him what to do with Candy, after I'd helped Lacey. I didn't want to go to another planet, though," she added, and I noticed Ian's scowl. "I wanted to die here, to be buried beside...Walter and Wes." From her expression, I gathered they were friends who had died. Ian embraced her gently, and she leaned back into him, as if gathering strength from his huge frame.

"I wanted Doc to let me die...to wait for me to stop moving before he let Jared in...Jared didn't let me die. He threatened Doc, and they found this body...already with a soul...in Seattle. They waited to see if anyone was in there, but no one opened these eyes. And now...I'm here," she finished, smiling up at Ian.

"I'm not letting you wander off without me," he murmured, and I could see the love in his face as he looked down at her. Then Wanda turned to me again.

"So what's the full story? With you and Edward?" she asked. I smiled.

"It's a long story...you might want to sit down."

I started at the beginning, with my reason for moving to Forks.

"I wanted my mom to be happy, so I, uh, exiled myself to Forks. I'll never regret that decision now," I added with a small shake of my head. "I met Edward there. It was my first day, and at lunchtime I saw him, Rosalie, Alice, Jasper and Emmett sitting on their own. They were so out of place...so beautiful I couldn't believe they were real. But the girl next to me told me who they were. Then I found out Edward was in my Biology class...and I had to sit next to him. But when I walked past him, he glared at me. I was so shocked...I couldn't believe he could hate me so easily! He didn't even know me...He disappeared for a week. When he came back, he was polite, but I could see he was still tense. Then the next day the van incident happened, and we had a short argument because he wouldn't explain." I paused and smiled to myself. Even then I had loved him and not realised it. But I knew it now...

"We didn't talk for about a month, but then one day he decided to start talking to me again...all because a boy asked me to the Spring Dance," I said with a laugh. "I didn't dance, because I had major balance issues when I was human. I couldn't walk across a flat, stable surface without tripping over my own feet."

"I believe I was the one who first said that," Edward's silky voice said from the entrance, and then he was behind me with his arms around my waist and his lips on my cheek. I smiled. It was taking almost all my control not to turn around and wrap myself around him right then and there. I didn't think Wanda and Ian wanted to see what we got up to at night, however...

"True. But anyway, by the end of the week we were friends, I guess. That weekend I met Jake, and he told me what Edward and the rest of the Cullens are. He told me the legends about the Cold Ones...I couldn't find any other explanation that made more sense, so I thought 'Hey, why not? I mean, who cares? I don't...' When I told Edward that, he got a little antsy," I added, grinning. Edward sighed.

"You can say that again. I couldn't believe it. The most beautiful girl, whose blood smelled absolutely irresitable, didn't care that I was a vampire." He shook his head. I smiled.

"I wasn't exactly sane. I knew I was crazy; that just confirmed it. I mean, why on Earth would the most perfect boy I'd ever met be interested in me? I was just an average...mph!" I protested when Edward's hand covered my mouth.

"You were always far above average, Bella. You never saw yourself clearly," he said firmly. This was still an issue, even after nine years of me being immortal. I rolled my eyes and he uncovered my mouth.

"Do that again and I swear, I'll bite you," I muttered, loud enough for Ian and Wanda to hear. "And you were always biased...you still are," I added. Wanda giggled, and Ian smiled. I smiled at them both as Edward laughed quietly.

"You wouldn't bite me," he said confidently. I raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, really? Are you willing to bet your hand on that?" I asked innocently. He covered my mouth again and I smiled evilly inside. I opened my mouth and bit down on his palm. He jerked his hand away.

"Ow!" I smiled innocently.

"I warned you," I said calmly, winking at Ian and Wanda. They both smiled. Then I turned and pouted, my eyes wide as I fluttered my eyelashes at him. "Sorry," I whispered, too soft for any bar him to hear. His eyes became slightly glazed, and he kissed me softly. I smiled inwardly. He was buying it.

"I'll be fine. It stings, but it's nothing major," he assured me. "You did warn me." I kissed him again before turning back to Wanda and Ian.

"That Saturday we spent in the woods, and on Sunday he took me to meet his parents...I was only afraid of them not liking me, not that I was going to meet a houseful of vampires."

"I couldn't understand your reasoning," he interjected, laughing. "Of all the things to be scared of, you were scared of my fast driving and that Carlisle and Esme wouldn't like you..."

"I'd never been in that sort of situation before. I wanted them to like me so badly...I didn't need to worry though. Carlisle and Esme are the most wonderful people." Edward smiled, then frowned.

"What on...? Oh! Bella, love, I need to go find Rosalie. I'll be back later, okay?" Before I could answer, he was gone. Wanda, Ian and I were left standing there stunned. I was totally confused. What was happening with Rosalie?
