11. Back In My Arms

Rating 5/5   Word Count 1220   Review this Chapter

Edward…He was standing less then twenty feet away from me. He was what I was searching for. And now I found him. The glorious god that stood awkwardly in front of me, waiting for something, but I didn’t know what. Maybe he was waiting for me to respond to him. But my mind couldn’t think of any words that could describe how I felt. For what was running through me could certainly never be put into words. I was just that happy. I could feel my face frozen in the astonished expression that consumed it. And I couldn’t get it out. My limbs seemed to stay paralyzed as I just sat there, wondering if it was all a cruel dream. Edward suddenly moved and ran over to me. He snatched me up and held me behind him. He growled loudly. The message was clear: Stay away from Bella.

“Bella, I see that you found your Edward. But alas I still have to kill you,” Jonathan said sadly.

“Why?” Edward asked through clenched teeth.

“Hell has ordered me to kill her. You see, we can’t let Heaven win again,” he said like it was obvious.

“But what good does it do?” I was surprised that I spoke up. By heart was pounding against my rib cage and I was scared to death.

“What do you mean ‘What good does it do’? It does all the good. We win a battle against Heaven. We gain moral superiority.”

“No you don’t! You kill one girl, big deal! And how is it a win if you have two demons and a crazy vampire against a clumsy, frail girl and one angel?”

Jonathan looked taken aback by my accusation. He was probably wondering the same thing himself.

“I don’t question my orders,” he said simply. He stood up strait and started to back away.

“What, are you scared now?” I asked sarcastically. I wondered why I was blurting stupid stuff out. That didn’t sound like me at all. I didn’t feel like me.

“Your friends are coming. I don’t want to be caught alone do I?”

I looked around. Victoria was gone(big shocker) and James didn’t catch up yet.

“I just want to do one thing first,” Jonathan said with a smirk. With out even looking at him, Jonathan shot a fire ball at me since I exposed myself from behind Edward. I waited for the fire ball to hit me but the impact never came. With lightning fast speed, Edward pushed me out of the way and he unfortunately stepped right in the way of the fire. He fell backwards with a gasp, clutching his chest. Jonathan disappeared quickly. I kneeled down next to Edward. His eyes were closed and he made no movement.

“Edward! Edward! Are you okay?” I asked him frantically. I shook him, but he didn’t budge. I wondered what happened. I thought that vampires couldn’t go unconscious. “Edward!” I screamed at him. I saw Alice and Beck enter the clearing and run over to where Edward and I were. “Alice, do something!” I yelled at her. Alice sat down next to Edward and placed her hand on his forehead.

“I am…confused,” Alice finally said after minutes of speculation. “How could he be unconscious? He’s a vampire!”

“Our powers can do weird things to vampires. We can kind of stall their brains. Make then stop functioning for a little while,” Beck explained.

“And how long is that?” I asked eagerly. I looked down at Edward’s beautiful face again. It looked so peaceful.

“Judging the time since he was hit and how hard he was hit…I would say that he would wake up in a few minutes,” Beck said wisely. My heart leapt at that information. I would be able to talk to Edward again in a few minutes. I waited next to him patiently, excited for when I could hear his velvety voice again. I didn’t let myself become fidgety. How long could a few minutes be anyway?

A few minutes took forever. Every second that passed felt like a year. After picking each and every blade of grass around me, Edward started to stir. I watched eagerly as his eyelids fluttered open and then closed again. His hands went right strait towards his chest and his face twisted up in pain.

“Edward!” I shrieked. He jumped up surprised and clutched his chest again. He looked at me amazed like he was surprised that I was alive.

“Bella,” he whispered. He looked so happy to see me but he looked down again quickly. He looked back towards my face ashamed. “Can you ever forgive me?” he asked quietly.

“What do you mean?” Forgive him for what? Saving me?

“For…leaving you,” he said even quieter. Oh…that…Was he crazy?

“Of course I forgive you! Why else would I have traveled half way across the country to find you?” I yelled at him. I looked at him like he was crazy.

“But I hurt you so much-”

“I don’t care.”

“But Bella-”

“I love you and I always will.”

“I love you, too,” he said, boring his topaz eyes into my brown ones. My heart exploded. Not in the literal sense but it was defiantly beating way to fast. I tried to clam down, but I couldn’t. Edward loved me! He said it himself! He then winced again.

“Oh Edward…” I said eyeing the place where the fire ball must have hit him. The place on his shirt that was hit was seriously burned. “You must be in a lot of pain.”

“It’s nothing much,” he said. To prove his point the jumped to his feet. Even though it was quick, I saw him stumble a little.

“You shouldn’t stress your self,” I warned. Edward didn’t deserve to be injured.

“I think that I deserve it.” He picked me up and brought me to my feet. He brought his head in close to mine and my heart beat sped up even more then I thought possible. Edward obviously heard the rapidness of my heart beat and smiled. I blushed. He smile even bigger. “I missed you so much,” he whispered in my ear. I nodded eagerly.

“Me too,” I said quickly. He breathed in and exhaled, smiling to himself. Then, one of the biggest things that I missed most in the world happened. Edward inclined his head even more towards me and his icy cold lips brushed mine. And of course I lost control and jumped onto him. I tangled my fingers in his hair and pressed myself against his hard body. But instead of pulling away like he always did before, he gave back. We kissed passionately for who knows how long before he pulled away, allowing me to breath. We both fell to the ground, breathing heavily. He placed his hand on mine and I started at our fingers interlocked. I missed that.

Then Alice and Beck came back. They left to give us some privacy that I was grateful for.

“We have a problem,” Alice said, eyeing me carefully. She then looked at Edward worriedly. What ever he saw must have scared him because his eyes widened and he looked at me frantically. I had a feeling that Jonathan, James and Victoria weren’t done with me yet.
