Edward’s eyes grew as he read Alice’s mind. She looked at me worriedly, making me uncomfortable. A deep growl came from Edward and he pulled me closer against him. “Nobody is killing Bella,” Edward said angrily. He pulled me even closer, making it hard for me to breath. But I didn’t care. After months of having him not there, I took any form of contact between us eagerly.

“But then how can we protect her? Jonathan is out to get her and he will never stop until he kills her,” Beck said anxious. She looked at me questionably. Edward must have read her thoughts because he got really angry.

“I’m not going to take her soul away!” Edward yelled. I realized what Beck must have been thinking. But what if I did become a vampire? Jonathan couldn’t kill me. Easily.

“But then she will be safer!” Beck responded. “Jonathan can’t touch her then! Heaven and Hell only fight over humans! Not vampires!”

“I don’t care! I can’t make her loose her soul!” Edward growled.

“She won’t loose her soul!” Beck said frustrated.

“And how do you know?” Edward asked with out thinking. Beck looked at him like he was an idiot. She was an angel. Edward quickly realized his mistake. “Oh yes…But Bella hates the sight of blood and she will have to drink it!” he said trying to make up more excuses.

“I’m sure she’ll warm up to it.”

“She won’t be able to eat food or sleep!”

“Is that very bad?”

"It’s not my decision!”

“What do you think she’ll say?”

Edward looked at me, pleading with me. He clearly didn’t want to change me. But why? Beck just about rebutted every excuse Edward had. Why would he not want to change me? I would certainly die if he didn’t. Maybe he didn’t care. Maybe he was just lying to me!

“I thought you loved me!” I screamed at him. He looked shocked at my outburst.

“What are you talking about?” he asked back, just as loud.

“I’m going to die if you don’t change me Edward. You know that and you still don’t want to change me! Maybe you want me to die!” I pointed a finger at him accusingly. I broke away from his embrace easily because he was so shocked.

“What?” he asked incredulously. He seemed at a loss for words. Probably because I was right. I went through all of that for nothing. I was so sure that he still loved me. I walked right up to death for him and he doesn’t even love me!

“How could you be so cruel! I can’t believe you!” I cried. Tears were streaming down my face. I turned to walk away. I didn’t know where I was going to go, but I had to go anywhere but there. But Edward caught my arms and pulled me back. I struggled against him but it was no use.

“Bella! Bella listen! Stop Bella.” His tone was hard and pleading. I turned around to face him, outraged. I was going to yell at him, but the look on his face made my tongue tie up. He looked so sad. “Bella, listen. I don’t want to change you because I love you. I’m not sure if I could control my self. What if I bite you, and I end up killing you? What do you think that will do to me?” I didn’t think of that. Okay, maybe he did love me…

“I’m so sorry Edward!” I cried, burying my face into his shoulder. “I really do love you, but you have to see that this may be the only way.”

“I know but-”

“No. Back in Phoenix you had to drink my blood and you controlled myself. All you need to do is bite down for five seconds!” He looked like he was thinking. Hard. His mouth opened and closed many times, probably changing his mind at what he was going to say.

“Maybe…” he said quietly. He looked at me quickly then. “When?” He asked. He looked towards Alice.

“They won’t attack for a little while yet. I think Jonathan is somehow keeping his plan from me, but James and Victoria aren’t though,” she said slowly. She looked deep in thought. “But I’m not sure how reliable my visions are now. I have no idea what Jonathan could be doing to somehow change them around.” She looked at me quickly. “We should change her, Edward.”

“No!” But the voice didn’t come from Edward. A huge figure stepped out of the forest and into the clearing. I couldn’t see who it was, but his voice sounded familiar. Edward and Alice tensed when they saw him. I gasped when I realized who it was. Jacob was joined by the rest of the werewolves as he walked closer.
