A growl escaped Edward’s lips as Jacob came closer. Jacob’s face was hard, cold and masked. But I could see that he was really, really angry. His whole body was shaking and his teeth were clenched together.

“Bella! How could you run away? Do you know what you did to Charlie?” Jacob yelled at me. I just shrank back against Edward. “And then you go find him? The one that left you for dead? Bella how could you?” Sam walked over to Jacob and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder, but he just shook it off.

“Jacob, I‘m sor-”

“No, Bella! You’re not sorry. I can see that your not!” Jacobs yelled, waving his arms dramatically. “And now you want to be changed into a leech! You’re going to let him bite you? He will kill you!”

“Shut up, dog!” Edward growled, finally fed up with Jacob. “You’re not welcome here.” Jacob was shaking like crazy. If he didn’t calm down, he would defiantly loose control. I walked forward a little to try to calm him.

“Jacob, calm down…” I said cautiously. But it didn’t do any good.

“Bella, step away. He’s not safe,” Edward warned. That did it.

“She’s a whole lot safer with me then she is with you, leech!” Jacob screamed before he fell to the ground only a few feet away from me. It all happened quickly then. I gasped, Edward ran forward and pushed me out of the way, Jacob turned into a werewolf but Edward didn’t push me away in time. There was a gash on my leg that hurt like hell. I cried out in pain and Edward rushed to my side. He tore off his shirt and tied it around my leg and applied pressure to it. Edward was fuming, but he didn’t leave my side to rip Jacob’s throat out.

“Get out of here you useless mutt!” Edward screamed. Jacob looked at me in horror and quickly sprinted away with the rest of the werewolves following him. His figure disappeared in seconds. Edward looked at me with sorrow filled eyes. “Bella,” he croaked out through his sobs. I tried to smile but couldn’t due to the pain. My leg was covered in blood and the gash ran really deep. I let out a small sob by accident and it sent a look of pain across Edward’s face. “I’m so sorry, Bella. If I was just a little faster-”

“No, it’s not your fault. It’s mine. I-I shouldn’t of walked closer to him,” I said breathless.

“We have to get her to a hospital,” Alice said worriedly. Both Edward and her looked to worried about me to notice or want my blood.

“There’s one a few miles from here,” Beck said. She also looked worried for me and looked around anxiously. “We have to move now, though. Jonathan would defiantly make his move when we are distracted.” Edward nodded and picked me up. “Don’t worry, Bella. You’ll be alright.” He sprinted into the forest but I was in too much pain to get nauseous. I couldn’t believe that Jacob would loose control like that. But I couldn’t blame him. I did just disappear and get back together with his mortal enemy who will change me into a vampire.

The hospital was in sight in seconds. Edward rushed through the double door and screamed for someone to help him. Several doctors and nurses rushed over to me, and brought a stretcher.

“I love you, Bella,” was the last thing I heard before everything went black.

“Is she okay?” an anxious voice asked someone. I recognized the voice but couldn’t remember who it belonged to.

“She lost a lot of blood,” another voice responded. That voice was unfamiliar and I wanted to open my eyes to see who it belonged to. I opened them but quickly closed them because the light in the room was so bright.

“Bella,” a soft voice said near my ear. I opened my eyes slowly this time and saw the face of my angel next to mine.

“Edward,” I whispered as loud as I could. He kissed me softly, making the heart monitor beep like crazy. He pulled away slowly, smiling. I felt my self blush a little, but the color didn’t stain my cheeks. “Am I…going to be okay?” I asked as loud as I could, and that wasn’t that loud. Edward’s face acquired many different emotions, all not very happy ones.

“I don’t know. Alice couldn’t see anything definite…but you lost a lot of blood. You had to have many transfusions. You smell very different,” he added sadly.

“Is it easier for you to be around me?” I asked.

“A little, but I liked your old smell,” he chuckled. But his face grew sad again.

“Emily survived much worse the what I got, Edward. I’m sure that I will survive,” I said to reassure him. But he had no idea who Emily was. “She was also hurt by a werewolf. Cut from her right eye and down her arm. See, much worse then my injury.”

“It doesn’t matter. Your body has been though so much. I’m not sure how much more it can take,” Edward said solemnly.

“My body’s fine,” I said surely. I wouldn’t die, it was just a scratch. Okay, it was a really, really big and blood scratch, but I would survive. It was a clean and strait cut. All I would need is stitches. I hoped. Edward still didn’t look assured but smiled anyway. Alice came into the room with a frown on her face.

“Edward, Jonathan and James are going to attack again. Tonight. Jonathan is going to Bella but James is going to attack…you. He really wants revenge Edward,” Alice said quickly.

“But he can’t do that!” Beck cried. “Demons can’t attack anything but humans and it’s the same with angels. Anything supernatural is off limits,” she said angrily. “Vampires are on Earth for a reason and we are not allowed to attack them!”

“But Jonathan attacked Alice and Edward,” I said confused.

“But they were protecting you and they needed to get you. It’s okay to attack them then, but they can’t out of spite! They’re breaking the rules!” Beck said, shaking a little.

“What’s the reason vampires are on Earth?” I asked curiously.

“I can’t tell you that,” Beck said.

“Why not?”

“It’s something mortals can’t know,” Beck said. She turned her attention to Edward. “You better watch out tonight.”

“I can take care of myself,” Edward said confident.

“He’s a demon.”

“So?”

“He can’t die,” Beck said frustrated. “Just watch out for Bella’s sake, okay?”

“Fine.” Edward looked over to me and pushed a stray hair away from my face. He stroked my cheek and looked like he was in deep thought. Suddenly, his eyes grew and he turned towards the door. The doctor walked in, with a frown on his face. Edward looked at me panicked.

“I’m afraid I have some bad news,” the doctor said solemnly. Edward looked at me frantic. “You lost a lot of blood, but we gave you a transfusion. But you are still weak from(cough) the loss of blood. But that’s not the problem(cough again). You weren’t cut with a very clean object. And(cough yet again) your wound my be infected.” The doctor erupted into a fit of coughing. He turned pale and then leaned on the wall for support. He collapsed on the ground and Edward ran to the door to call for help. Doctors and nurses rushed in and checked his pulse. I was looked at the doctor frantically, wondering what was happening.

“Oh no…” a doctor whispered. He then called to one of the nurses. “Lock all the doors to the hospital and…put out directions to another hospital. We have to go under quarantine.”
