Edward quickly planted himself in front of me, blocking my view of Jonathan. I heard Alice and Beck rush over to Edward’s side. I was basically protected by a wall of immortals. A long and hard cough erupted from me and I buried my head in my pillow to try to muffle the sound. Alice turned her head so she could see me and I saw her worried face.

“We can’t fight here, Jonathan,” Beck said calmly. But her hand was glowing a little and was hidden behind her back.

“Then just give her to me,” Jonathan said just as calmly. This made Edward growl loudly. I expected a confused hospital worker to rush in, but Edward must have scared them away because the door wasn’t disturbed.

“No, Jonathan,” Beck said hard and cold. She put herself in an attack stance.

“If that‘s the way it’s going to be,” Jonathan said. He had a light in his eyes that defiantly meant bad news for me. “I’ll see you soon, Bella.” And then he was gone. The whole room seemed to relax. Edward moved to my side and put his hand on my forehead.

“Beck?” Edward asked anxiously.

“Can you maybe…get some medicine and bring it back here? Since there’s no real medicine for anyone, I mean,” Edward asked. He moved a strand of hair out of my face. And kissed my forehead. “You’ll get better soon, Bella,” Edward said, grinning. But I wasn’t happy. Beck disappeared to get some real medicine.

“Why don’t you just change me?” I asked quietly. Edward stiffened and sat strait up with a sigh.

“Do you really want that?” Edward asked. I nodded quickly. Another fit of coughing took me over as Edward decided what to do. “Can you at least get better first?” he asked pleadingly. I ran the options over in my head. Beck would be back soon with medicine. I could get better and then Edward would change me. That would be okay.

“Fine,” I said defeated. A grin covered Edward’s face and he pecked my cheek lightly. Beck was suddenly back carrying a case of medicine. She handed me a bottle and walked out the door to hand some out to everyone else. Edward handed me a glass of water and I swallowed the pills.

Three days later Jonathan didn’t reappear and I was all better. I still couldn’t walk because of the gash on my leg, but at least I wasn’t coughing anymore. Edward, Alice, Beck and I walked out of the hospital and into the fresh air. Edward was pushing my wheelchair and I had some new clothes that Alice bought me on. My gash wasn’t completely healed, but Edward was anxious to get out of the white prison. I left willingly, too since Edward promised to change me once we were out. He wheeled me up to a silver car and helped me in. He put the wheelchair on the curb and drove away. Alice was deep in a trance and when she was done, had a huge grin on her face.

“It’s about time, Edward,” Alice said teasingly.

“Why don’t you just-” he stopped talking when he saw the zoned out look on Alice's face.

“Jonathan is coming,” Alice said quickly. “I-I just saw it. We have to get her to Carlisle, Edward. There everyone can help protect her while she’s in her transformation.” Edward nodded and sharply turned right towards the airport.

“Where is your family?” I asked. I was wondering where they were staying.

“Denali,” Alice said simply. She closed her eyes again, lost in a trance. “We have to hurry,” Alice said worriedly. Edward pressed on the gas pedal harder. We were at the airport in minutes. We ran to the counter to get our tickets and then ran to catch our flight. Once on the plane, we all seemed to relax a little. I ended up sitting next to Edward. I leaned on his shoulder and let my eyes close.

I woke up to the annoying voice of the stewardess.

“We are landing now, please fasten your seatbelt.” I fumbled for the buckle, but Edward was there and buckled it for me. I sighed and sat back, waiting for the plane to land.

It was cloudy so Edward and Alice didn’t have to hide. They rented a car and we waited for a few minutes for it to pull up. Once we were in, Edward slammed on the gas and the airport was fading behind us quickly.

“Is Jonathan going to attack soon?” I asked worriedly.
“He will be more hesitant once we are in Denali and once you are a vampire. He would probably give up and move on to the next person,” Beck said sadly. “I still don’t know why he or any other devil does it.” We sat in silence for the rest of the car ride.

We pulled up to a house that looked a lot like a cabin. Edward helped me out and carried me to the door. We were met by the rest of the Cullens and Tanya’s family.

“Bella!” Esme’s motherly voice called out.

“Esme!” I called back. I hugged her hard. I missed her so much. Edward sat me on the couch and walked over to Carlisle. He whispered something and Carlisle nodded. I watched them form the corner of my eye as Emmett pulled me into a big bear hug. Jasper still kept his distance from me though. He just smiled an encouraging smile. Rosalie, though, was standing a little further away. She gave me a glare that sent chills down my spine.

“Bella,” Carlisle’s said. I turned around to face him. “When do you want to be changed?”

“As soon as possible,” I said quickly.

“How about tonight?” he suggested.

“Okay,” I said willingly. Just a few hours and Edward would change me. I could hardly wait. The few hours was filled with me getting acquainted with the family again. They told me what they have been doing and I tried to avoid telling them what I was doing the past seven months. And to my relief they didn’t press for information.

Night rolled around the corner and Edward carried me upstairs and into a small bedroom.

“Are you sure that you want this?” Edward asked cautiously.

“Of course,” I said quickly. He sighed deeply and then his eyes were filled with hard determination. I kissed him lightly on the lips and he kissed back. He pulled away and then leaned down towards my neck and bit it. My smile was wiped away as I started to feel the fire.
