As I drove along the highway, I realized that I had no idea where I was going. I didn’t know where Denali was and even if I did know, I didn’t know who was going to be there. But maybe I could turn into a vampire first and then go after Edward. Surely as a vampire he would never leave me, and I could follow him if he tried. But where would I find vampires controlled enough to bite me and not kill me? I sighed as the reality of the situation fell on me. Did I really have to leave Forks? If Edward loved me, he would come back after a little while. But what if that little while ended up being thirty years? Maybe I cold go back to Forks…Charlie would just be a little angry. But even as I was thinking that, I felt my whole body start to tire out. I must not of realized how tired I was. I pulled my truck over to the side of the road and I fell asleep in seconds.

The blond girl dressed in white was standing in front of me again. This time though, we were in a house over looking a lake. It was spring and the cool air blew through the window. I stepped towards the window and stuck my head out of it. The fresh air smelled exactly like…him. I managed to hold myself upright as I clutched the ever growing hole in my stomach.

“Bella,” the girl’s soft voice rang off the walls of the house. I whipped my head around to face her. “You can’t give up so easily.”

“But I have no idea where to go!” I yelled back at her. She took a step forward and placed her hand on my shoulder.

“Go back to the place it all began,” she told me prophetically.

“But that’s back in Forks,” I responded. Forks was the first place I saw Edward.

“Not that far,” she said a little irritated.

“You mean Phoenix?” That’s where I lived before Forks…

“Where he began!” the girl cried out. Oh…That made sense.

“Chicago?” the girl nodded. “What would I do there?”

“You’ll see when you get there. It will all be clear to you,” she started to fade again, but I still had questions to ask her.

“Wait! Nothing is clear to me! Just tell me what to do!” I yelled at her. She was fading faster, but still had time to respond.

“I’m not going to tell you how to live your life Bella,” she said sternly.

Who was this person? Before I had the chance to ask her, the whole room went pitch dark. All I could see was two golden eyes staring back at me. I walked forward to see who owned them. But when ever I advanced, the eyes back up. This went on for a little while until the owner of the eyes was back up against the window. The light streamed in through the window and the person was revealed. It was…Edward.

I felt the whole start to open again. And I clutched my stomach. Edward just started at me. I reached out to touch him, but he just moved away from me. He climbed onto the window sill and looked at me.

“You have to go Bella,” he said simply.

“What do you mean? Go to Chicago? Why?” I wailed at him. I reached out to touch him again, but he moved out of my grasp.

“You have to work for the things you love. I’m not going to come back. It’s up to you.” His topaz eyes started back at me.

“Do you even love me still? Why would I waste my time?” Did he even want me.

“A vampire never forgets.”

“Never forgets what?”

“Don’t be difficult, Bella,” he said starting to get irritated. My eyes filled up with tears. “Don’t worry, love. Just go,” he said and jumped out the window. The whole world disappeared with him.

I woke up with a gasp. Chicago! That’s where I had to go. But why? I would find out when I go there, but first thing’s first. How do I get there? I could drive, but my truck wouldn’t make it to Chicago. I could fly…but did I have any money? I checked my glove compartment. I had twenty dollars. I had no choice. I would have to drive. I just hoped that my truck would make it. I started my truck up again and headed towards the nearest gas station to get a map.

I walked into the store and picked up a small map that I could afford. I also picked up a granola bar to keep me energized. After paying for my items I hopped back in the car, checked the map, and headed in the general direction of Chicago.
