"Oh, um, no, of course not. No problem." I assured her. "But, Mrs. Cullen, why did he ask you to come get me?"

"Oh, he's just working a little late tonight, and because it's your first time really being here he wanted me to stay. Is that okay? Besides, I went grocery shopping since your father doesn't seem like he knows how." She laughs a bit.
That's nice. At least she was checking to make sure it was fine if she stayed with a seventeen year old kid. I swear he acts like I'm seven.

"Well, are you coming?" She asks.

"Oh, yeah. Of course."

For most of the time we ride in silence. She seems like she isn't paying attention to the road. I know she's distracted.

"Mrs. Cullen," I start. "I know it isn't any of my business, but are you and Dr. Cullen having problems? You don't have to answer, but I was just curious. I heard a lot while I was in my little room." I kinda feel like I'm blubbering. Maybe I am, maybe I'm not making any sense.

"Please dear, call me Esme. And it's no problem, I'll answer you. Yes, we are, and as of now we are not currently together. I'm looking for a house around town. Or maybe I'll move to a whole new city. I'm not sure yet. I was actually going to talk to your father a bit about it tonight." Esme explains. I've always been good at reading people, and there is no exception when it comes to Mrs. Cullen. She is holding back the rest of her explanation.

"Why would yo- Oh wait, you're thinking about asking him to stay with us?" I'm putting her little puzzle together for her.

"Well, yes. You may not know, but your father and I used to "hang together" at some town meetings and such. We really do have quite a bit in common.." She continues to rattle, but I don't pay attention.

Not that I don't like her or anything, but really, her being apart of this family is, like, a, well, like a wolf who joins a pack of bunny rabbits. It just wouldn't work. She seems all right enough I guess. I don't think I ever imagined Charlie moving on like Mom did. Maybe I expected him to just grow old with little old me and be just Dad, no more husband stuff that-

"We're here?" Mrs. Cullen pulls me out of my thoughts.

"Oh, sorry. Thanks for the ride." I say, but then feel stupid because she starts getting out. I forgot.
She's babysitting.

"Mrs. Cull- I mean Esme," I correct myself when I see her expression. "you really don't have to stay ya know. If you have other plans or something. Or get a head start on your house hunting." She cringes a bit on the last part. "I really have no problem with you staying of course. You could sleep in Charlie's room and he could have the couch. Or vice versa." I offer, feeling like I'm just making no sense at all again.

She smiles. "Thank you," Mrs. Cullen smiles sincerely. "it makes me feel good to be welcomed like this." She finishes and I can tell she's done, she grabs some bags and heads into the kitchen.

"I don't know." My dad says.

"It will only be for a little while. I swear. I'll cook, clean, whatever else." Must be Esme.

My dad chuckles. "You'll be taking the load off of Bella's shoulders, that's for sure."

"Is this a yes?" Esme begs. I imagine her on her knees.

I can hear him running his fingers through his thinning hair. "We don't have the room-"

"I'll take the couch. I can sleep anywhere, I promise. My stuff will go into a storage unit.

He laughs again. "Yes, yes. You can stay."

"Thank you thank you thank you!" I hear her squeal.

I decide to walk down the steps and into the living room where they were having their discussion. Were.

If I looked straight, I could see them out of the corner of my eye. I'm not going to face them.

My dad has both of his arms around the back of Mrs. Cullen, while she has her arms comfortably wrapped around the neck of him. One hand in his hair. I clear my throat.

"Oh." Is all she says, as she takes her arms down and takes a step away from him.

"Yeah. Oh." I mimic her "Oh."

"Now, now. I think this is a pretty good time to do some explaining."

"Yeah. Me too. When would you like to start?" Anger is reaching my words. The sad part is, I don't feel all that angry, more like crying. I try not to let that show.

"Well, Bells, Esme and I, well, we've been together now officially," He smiles mischeviously down at her. "for two days. We've been talking and getting along for about two weeks tomorrow I think." Charlie explains.

"I'm so sorry Bella. I really didn't mean for you to find out like this. I planned on telling you tonight any ways, but it looks like fate had other plans." She attempts a small smile and laugh.

I turn right back around, face the stairs, and walk right back into my room.
