Floating Back To Earth…or Olympia

If one thing was for sure, it was that neither of us was sure about anything.

We both had lives, schools and jobs to return to come Monday morning, but neither of us could bear to separate from the world we had created on that cozy couch in her living room.

We both knew that transferring medical schools at any stage would present a new challenge – a kind of challenge that seemed unconquerable. The last thing Ginessa wanted was to be anywhere near Tacoma, because of all the loose ends she anticipated if she left; especially those concerning her pathetic fiancé, still in the hospital.

And yet, I could never ask her to follow me to the ends of the earth, because it wasn’t fair. I was the one who had screwed everything up, so I should be the one to follow her. It was wrong of me to expect anything more than I already had.

But it was all Ginessa to try her hardest for me, even though she barely knew me, even though she should have left me when I told her to.

Ginessa took no orders from anyone. But I really didn’t have any orders to give.

The worst thing of all about the entire situation, however, was what happened when Ryan found out.

He came home around dinner time Sunday in the hospital shuttle. He was limping, he had a huge brace of plaster wrapped around his right had, stitches on his face and a visible right eye was covered and black and blue bruises.

Worse? When he got out of the shuttle, a beige Mustang pulled up to the driveway. My mustang.

“Hey Ryan,” she greeted, her voice softer than I had ever heard it.

“You remember Jim, don’t you Ginny?”

She smiled. “How are you, Jim?”
“I’m doing just fine.”

“Well, Ginny, I thought it over while I was in the hospital, and I guess I overreacted. I mean, all you did was give a guy a break, and I shouldn’t have made a big deal over nothing.”

Uh-oh. This was going to get difficult.

“Jim drove Seth’s mustang up here. He worked on the engine a little this morning, and it’s been revamped enough to get him back to Olympia.”

I came out of the house. “Hey thanks!”

“No problem, Seth.”
“Listen, Ryan, there’s something I really, really need to talk to you about…”

“Sure, anything for you, baby.” He smiled at her and then looked her up and down. “Wait…where’s your engagement ring?”

“Ryan, I really think we should re-think our relationship…”

“What? First your charity case put me in the hospital, and now he’s convinced you out of our relationship?”

“Not…um…not exactly…?” Ginessa took a deep breath. “C’mon, Gin, be a real woman,” she whispered almost inaudibly to herself. “You have and always will be a first rate jerk, Ryan Alexander Trevino!”

What did you just say to me?”
“Yeah, you heard me! Fine, you’re attractive and wealthy and smart, but that sure as hell doesn’t make you the King of Ginessa World, or anyone’s world for that matter!”
Yeah, that was my woman!

“You parade me around like I’m some prize to be won, and then you expect me to act like some Victoria’s Secret model when we’re in bed together, you sick, perverted douche bag!”
Ew. What?

“You pretend like you care about me some days, and then you beat up and hurt my friends the next! One minute, you tell me you’re excited about our wedding, and the next minute, you just care about a football game! When I say I put my career first, you say it’s fine…until I bear your children!”

Ha ha, nice one.

Ryan took his time to speak in the few seconds Ginessa took to formulate the next sentence of red-headed insults. “Hey, Jim?”

Ryan threw his friend a set of…

Oh, no.

Racing car keys. Keys that looked like they would fit Ginessa’s Bugatti…

“Take Ginessa’s car out for a spin, will you? And drive it off a cliff.”

In a few more seconds, Ginessa was shaking in rage and sorrow. “You take that back, Ryan!”

Due to his injuries, he awkwardly crossed his arms over his chest. “Umm, no.”

“You son of a bitch!” she shrieked, as Jim drove off with her car.

It wasn’t long before Ryan was flat on his back on the grass, Ginessa pinning him down with more force than I had ever seen in any other girl…ever.

“You stupid,” slap, “Conniving,” slap, “Evil, vile, insensitive,” slap, “Asshole!”

When she started using stronger expletives to describe both his actions and other parts of his body, I figured it was probably time to haul her off him before he wound up in the hospital again.

When I held her back by the arms, she was nearly snarling.

“You are crazy!” he panted, sitting up on the grass.

“Damn right!”

“It’s over!” they said together, Ginessa’s voice screaming more than speaking.

“Mail me all my shit,” she roared.

“Tomorrow, rush order,” he growled. “We found Seth’s apartment number when we looked up his license plate.”

Great. That was the last thing I needed; an angry ex-boyfriend stalking me.

I gingerly led her to my car (I had gathered all my things while she had pinned him down) and started up the engine, backing out of the house and heading to the nearest interstate.

She didn’t talk the whole ride; just sat there with her arms crossed over her chest, not making eye contact. I hated feeling like the whole situation was all my fault, even though she wasn’t feeling like it was.

In short, I already loved her to pieces, but I was rather annoyed and confused. I wasn’t Edward, and although I could feel her emotions, I couldn’t read her thoughts.

It was staggeringly frustrating.

We sat in a confined space for two hours. I was supposed to understand everything about her feelings, but I couldn’t. She was experiencing too much at once; so much that it almost hurt me to even begin feeling what she was. That worried me.

When I finally pulled into the driveway of my humble apartment, I looked at her.

“Please, Ginny, talk to me,” I murmured.

She sighed. “I loved that car,” she whispered.

Oh, right. I had forgotten she understood race engines and stick shifts. It had been a long two days after all.

“Well, if it makes you feel any better, I thought that the way you pinned down Ryan was rather ingenious.”

She smirked and sighed again. “Thanks. If there’s one thing my parents taught me, it’s that you should give a guy what he deserves when he hurts you. And I loved that car.”

Not the guy?

“But what about Ryan? Don’t you miss him?”

She shrugged. “Why should I miss him when I’ve got you?”

And after all that, she still wanted to learn to love me.

“You are insane,” I affirmed.

She laughed. “And you aren’t? Werewolf?”

“Shh!” I chided, looking around and hoping nobody had heard her. “No one knows about it. And besides, I’m giving it up.”

Ginny grinned. “Oh, that’s right. Well, you need to phase in front of me before you do.”

“But I-“

“No excuses! You owe me.”

I knew I ‘owed’ her. I owed her my world and more. “But I can’t phase too close to you, and I can’t phase here.”

“Well then, what are you waiting for? Fire up this mustang! Let’s drive to a forest?”

I groaned a little. It was sometimes a curse to have to do everything your imprint asked of you. I had no choice but to comply.

She was happy that I had decided to do as she asked. Ginny sat with a smug smile stamped on her face as I backed out of the driveway.

We reached the fringes of Olympia in minutes, and I suddenly didn’t give a damn about speed limits.

“Okay, there are a few things you need to know about this whole…transformation.”

She sat on my car’s hood and grinned up at me.

“First of all, when I phase, I have to be naked, especially because I don’t particularly wish to buy a new pair of jeans or a new t-shirt. So, you’re going to have to shield your eyes when I phase.”

She smirked and laughed under her breath. “Not a problem. Next?”
“Secondly, you have to stay away from me; my paws, claws and teeth mostly, when I’m phasing. I’ve seen what close proximity can do if the wolf or the person he’s phasing for is careless.”

“Okay, you told me this before. Next?”
I sighed. “I’ve been told that I look rather…cuddly in wolf form, but that doesn’t mean I’m not dangerous, and it doesn’t mean you won’t find me disturbing or crazy or…any other slew of random adjectives that might pop into your head when you look at me, all right?”
“You’re cuddly!” she proclaimed with a tiny giggle.

“Maybe, maybe not.”

Ginny’s face formed a confident look. “You’ll be cuddly, I know you will.”
“Okay, phasing now. Put your hand over your eyes.”

The moment I asked it of her, she slapped her hand onto her forehead with such force that she uttered an “Ow.”
I grinned as I threw my clothes onto the forest floor. Please, oh please, oh please keep her safe…

I ran into a tree, and it quivered, but other than that, she was still sitting on the hood of the car, untouched.

Thank God.

I growled as softly as I could and sat before her. She opened her eyes, gasped a little, and giggled.

“See? You are cuddly!”
I whined and half-opened my mouth in a grin.

She reached out her hand to my gray muzzle and stroked me behind the ears affectionately.

“Aww,” she sighed, her eyes aglow. “I always loved dogs.”

I barked in approval.

Shit shit shit shit shit… came a string of thoughts I easily recognized as Jacob’s.

What? Jake? I thought back, my fuzzy face suddenly contorted in confusion.

“What is it?” asked Ginessa.

Jacob’s thoughts were running faster than he was. A pack of real werewolves found Nessie and I. They got confused by our scents. They think Nessie is a danger. They tracked down the Cullens, and they want to fight.

What?! I exclaimed. What does this mean? Wait, Jake, where are you?

Umm, you don’t mind if I crash your little imprint party, do you?

No, I guess not…

I spun around and saw Jake’s big brown wolf form barreling towards me. I hid Ginessa behind me. Don’t touch her.

Chill out. Wasn’t gonna. He halted with a lopsided grin on his face, Reneesme in his arms. She was giggling.

“Hi!” she exclaimed breathlessly. “It’s good to see you again, Seth.”

I could feel Ginessa’s confusion behind me. “Excuse me?” she demanded, looking over my shoulder to Jake and Reneesme.

Jake let Reneesme down. “Hey, I’m Reneesme Carlie Cullen, you must be Seth’s imprint,” she introduced, shaking Ginessa’s hand. “I guess you know by now that my parents are vampires.”
Ginessa basically fell off the hood of my car. “WHAT?”

“Oops!” she replied helplessly, sighing and looking to the ground like a disappointed kitten. “Was I not supposed to say that?”
Jacob rolled his eyes and ran to the forest, returning phased, with his usual pair of black sweatpants on. “Sorry about all of this,” he said, helping Ginessa up. “Can you phase, Seth, so we can explain ourselves and get back to your apartment?”
I grabbed my clothes and quickly changed as my leader asked of me.

“If you thought my being a shape-shifter was weird, get a load of this,” I sighed, taking Ginny’s hand for moral support. She already looked gray.

Poor Ginny. Did she truly have a conscious idea of what she had done when she picked me over Ryan?
