Bella’s POV

The next few months passed quicker than expected. As seniors, we had our finals coming up, but none of us were worried. After all, we were all straight-A students. Prom was one tiny problem I wasn’t looking forward to. As the school’s resident band, we had been asked to play the music for the prom. Normally I would have welcomed it, but it meant I had to be away from Edward…no matter how short the time-frame, I didn’t want to leave his side. Reluctantly, though, I agreed when we were approached by the ball committee. It would be our last performance…we were going to all ‘die’ in a car accident after graduation so we could move away and so Tourniquet would be all forgotten about. We’d just be another one-hit-wonder. Not that our single of ‘True Love Lost’ had actually hit the shelves yet…Alice predicted we’d be amazingly popular. Perhaps we could continue Tourniquet for a few years, and then ‘die’…

I was distracted from my thoughts as Edward’s arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me to his chest.

“What are you thinking?” he breathed, and I shrugged.

“Just about how we're going to disappear so people won't be asking about why we stopped playing,” I replied. It was three o’clock in the morning, and the others were all hunting. Don’t ask why…I didn’t want to know. They seemed to think that the only reason Edward and I hadn’t…well, slept together, in a sense…was because of them. It wasn’t that. Edward was still old-fashioned. He probably wanted to marry me first…

“Bella?” he whispered. I turned in his arms.

“What is it?”

“I finished that song Alice talked about,” he breathed right by my ear, kissing my neck lightly. I sighed happily. It was nice for him to not have to worry about controlling his strength and bloodlust. “Do you want to hear it?”

“Of course,” I murmured, and took his hand to all but drag him to his piano. He grinned at my enthusiasm, then sat and began to play.

The melody was intricate, with a beautiful countermelody weaving through the complex rhythms. The countermelody was slower than the melody, and sounded more like a verse over background music. I was stunned when Edward began to sing along with the countermelody.

“Let me whisper in your ear
Let me make your pain disappear
Let me sing you one sweet lullaby
I'll let you into your dreams fly

Let me tell you how I feel
Let me hold you here so still
Let me sing you one sweet lullaby
I'll let you into your dreams fly

Let me whisper in your ear
Let me make your pain disappear
Let me sing you one sweet lullaby
I'll let you into your dreams fly

Let me hold you close to me
Let my words come and set you free
Let me sing you one sweet lullaby
I'll let you into your dreams fly

Just let me sing you one lullaby…”

I realised when he grinned at me, still playing, that my mouth was open in my surprise. I hadn’t heard him sing before…not like that, anyway.

“That was amazing,” I breathed, sliding onto his lap as he played the last little bit of the accompaniment. I wound my arms around his neck and rested my head on his shoulder. His arms wound around my waist.

“I wrote it for you an age ago,” he murmured in my ear. “I just finished it recently. I love you, Bella,” he added, almost impulsively. I laughed quietly and kissed his lips teasingly.

“I love you too, Edward,” I whispered. It was true. Nothing could compare. Edward grinned and stood, not letting me stand, and sped up the stairs into his room. I was a little surprised, actually. Normally we avoided the bedroom…I had a tendency to get a little carried away, despite the face there was no bed, just a long couch. It was on this couch he placed me, and then knelt in front of me. I stopped breathing. Was he…? I exhaled swiftly as he pulled a ring-box from his pocket and opened it to reveal the ring inside. He was…

“Bella Swan, will you marry me?”
