Bella’s POV

After changing from my tight jeans and top to something more comfortable, I went to meet the rest of my coven by the backstage door. I froze when I heard familiar voices among those of my family’s. Oh, shit…

“…Bella’s still coming,” Michelle was saying.

“So how do you know her?” Lee asked. “Over the last thirty years since she changed me, she hasn’t really said much about her human life.” I bit back a groan.

“Oh, my brother’s in love with her. He was an idiot to think she’d be better off if he left her…” Alice said breezily. “He didn’t move from being curled up in a ball until we gave him a kick up the rear end and snapped at him, right Jasper?” I froze further. Oh shit…again. I’d forgotten Jasper was here too. He could probably sense my tension. I heard Andre snort.

“Oh, I'm sure he left her for her own good. He never went back and checked on her, did he? He just told Bells he didn’t love her and hot-footed it out of there!” I was glad Andre was sticking up for me, but a little annoyed he had blabbed in front of the rest of our family. Now I had even more explaining to do… I was puzzled when Alice hissed suddenly.

That's what he told her?! Oh, I am going to kill him! But how could she believe him so easily…?”

“Dre, I asked you not to mention my past,” I murmured as I joined them. “I'm not confiding in you again.” He shrugged.

“Sorry, Bells. You know I get protective sometimes.” I smiled sadly.

“I know,” I whispered. “Thanks.” I looked at tiny Alice and battle-scarred Jasper. “Hey, Alice, Jasper. How have you been?”

I could tell Alice had something on her mind from the way she fidgeted.

“What is it, Alice?” I asked with a sigh. That unleashed the flood.

“How could you believe him so easily, Bella? He told the worst lie in the history of lies when he said he didn't love you. He was moping around for years! When Charlie was found dead and you’d disappeared…he tried to run off to the Volturi to get himself killed! He never stopped loving you, Bella. He still loves you…” I cut her off, covering my ears.

“Please don’t tell me that, Alice,” I whispered. “It's hard enough as it is for me to –” I broke off and looked away, forcing myself to breathe before looking back up at her. “It was nice to see you again, both of you. Tell Esme and Carlisle I said hello,” I whispered. I turned, not waiting for a reply, and hurried away. I could hear my family saying their farewells behind me and waited in the back seat of the car for them to join me. Then I put my head on Andre’s shoulder and cried without tears the whole way home.

Alice’s POV

I ‘saw’ where Bella and her coven were heading and smiled. It had been so long since I’d seen my almost-sister; I wasn’t about to give up on her like that.

“Jasper, call Esme and Carlisle, will you?” I asked. “We're moving back to Forks.”
