5. Chapter 5 - Spinning Kayaks and Bagels

Rating 5/5   Word Count 521   Review this Chapter

There was a rather large group of people surrounding the spinney thing that sends luggage round so people can collect it. Many were laughing. I had a funny feeling that we were somehow involved…

Yup. It was Tasha’s Kayak. Tasha, Ignoring the bemusement of the crowd ran and grabbed her kayak as if she hadn’t seen it in years. Me and Delia fetch the rest of the bags as Tasha plonks her kayak on the floor.

"Don't worry. It's had worse" She says as she notices the look on Delia’s face.

Delia, still away with the… Well, whatever she was away with, shakes her head and mumbles, "Yeah but you squashed Trevor"

Tasha, expertly handling the situation says, "No he was off buying pie"

Delia suddenly squeals and does a funny little jump/dance.

I spot Joshua and Christopher over by the third luggage spinner thing. Tasha distracts me and asks if we’re gonna stay here while she fetches the trolleys we need.

"Fine, yeah, whatever"

I crane my neck to try and find them again but to no avail. Dang. There was a tapping on my back.

“Yes Delia?”

She pointed over toward where a small, frizzy haired girl was having a heated conversation with a large, balding man. “Scary.” She mutters.

"LISTEN TO ME!" Tasha suddenly screams. " FIRST, IM NOT A ‘LITTLE GIRL‘. IM NEARLY 18. SECONDLY, I AM BETTER THAN YOU! HAVE YOU REPRESENTED YOUR COUNTRY IN A SPORT? NO, BECAUSE YOU CAN‘T EVEN RUN!”

She switches to a deadly whisper.

“Now I'm usually a nice person but I don't even want to be here. All I'm trying to do is get a goddamn trolley so I don't have to carry my kayak for around ½ a mile! So if you don't mind…”

She whips the trolley from his hands and marches back through the crowd. I realise my jaw is open and close it. I have new found admiration for her.

She begins to load up our bags. I stop her with my hand at simply say

"What the hell was that!?"

She beams as Delia blurts out, "Yeah Tatashie you went mental! We thought you were going to kill him!"

She just shrugs and mumbles it was nothing while sticking her kayak on the trolley of the moment.

"All I can say is don't ever do anything like it again…" I grab my trolley handles and begin to push off. Delia follows suit again muttering “Scary.” Tasha follows us as we enter the part of the airport with all the shops and (More importantly) Food.

“I’m hungry…” Delia rubs her stomach. Delia, being such a stick insect, hardly ever admits she’s hungry. I suddenly spot Christopher and Joshua going into a small bagel shop. A imaginary light bulb appears above my head.

“Fine…” I start. “We'll stop of at that bagel place over there.” I point towards the shop.

This was met by a chorus of “Yaysies!!!!" As Delia and Tasha rush towards the shop.

I turn round my trolley and take a glance at the place.

Maybe I will grow to like Texas after all…
