Chapter 2

I slid into my Audi coupe. Taylor and the rest joined me.

“So Coco you going to date this year?” Amy asked tossing her red hair over her shoulder.

I shook my head.

Destiny groaned “But coco!”

Taylor glared at her.

Taylor was the only one who understood. She too had her heart broken during her human life.

Sadly it was one of the few things we remembered.

The guy who broke it was named Justin. He was a werewolf just like… Jacob.

I winced when I thought of him.

He was the one who kept me going when I was torn apart.

My life preserve.

I parked the car but sat there as everyone but Taylor got out.

She put a hand on my shoulder but didn’t say a word.

Jacob wasn’t my life preserve anymore.

Taylor was.

I picked up my try and followed Taylor to the table.

I stabbed my food with my fork.

“How do people eat this stuff?” Emily suddenly asked.

I shrugged.

Amy picked up her book and began to read.

It was a very old book. A book from 2008.

A long time ago.

I felt eyes on the back of my head.

I turned and saw a guy staring at me.

I groaned.

“What’s wrong Coco? Another Mike Newton?” Samantha asked with a laugh.

I nodded sadly.

We all ended up laughing.

We pulled up to our house.

I picked up my backpack, slung it over my shoulder, and ran up the steps and into the house.

Taylor trudged in slowly.

“Oh Tay Tay school is over you can relax now!” Heather cried from the kitchen.

She was the person who pretended she was our mom.

“I am fine.” Taylor muttered.

I raised my eyebrows.

Taylor seemed even more broken hearted the usual.

I winced at the pain.

That was how I felt when I met someone with a broken heart, even if it was a dead heart.

I could feel their pain.

It was very annoying. It only added to my pain.

I didn’t have just a broken heart.

I had a broken mind.

“Hey Coco?” Taylor asked as she slid into my room.

I zippered my backpack back up.

I nodded hello.

Taylor plopped down onto my couch and sighed.

We sat there for a while.

Who knows it could have been hours.

But it felt like centuries.

“What’s wrong Tay Tay?” I finally asked.

“I don’t know,” she whispered. “I just feel so broken.”

I nodded sadly.

We sat there in silence for a little while longer.

And longer.

And longer.

And longer.

“Ok something’s wrong. I have never felt so much pain come off you before!” I said exasperated.

Taylor looked up at me.

I finally saw her expression.

Her gold eyes were worn with love and pain.

Her lips where pressed together as if scared she would be pushed away.

I felt an over whelming urge to gather her up and hold her tight.

To hold her away from the world.

To protect her.

“Oh Taylor are you okay?” I asked.

Taylor shook her head.

“What’s wrong?” I said.

“The guy at lunch. He wasn’t staring at you. He was staring at me. I know him.” Taylor sniffed.

I froze.

It couldn’t be.

Not him.
