When I was reading the book, towards the end everything was just a bit to... positive? So I sat there and started thinking about how I would feel if I were... Edward, Bella, Jacob... Nessie. My eyes were being weighed down with the depth of my despair. I could hear the most horrendous sound in the world and it frightened me. I sifted through a million memories, trying to place it. But it was something new.
My blood inched its way round my body even though my heart was pumping at a furious pace. I was scared. Last thing I remembered was the bar, Leah. Right now it sounded like I was in a metal workshop.
I tried to speak but my throat was parched, instead a low croak came out. No one could have heard it over this noise though, it was deafening.
My eyelids seemed to be glued shut but I desperately tried to pull them apart. I chuckled to myself, it felt like something out of Tom and Jerry. I remembered one episode where Tom was so tired that he couldn’t keep his eyes open, so he propped them up with toothpicks. Gosh, I wish that were me right now, at least he could see. - I couldn’t fall asleep even if I tried, it was far too noisy.
“Sam… Sam, I… love-you…”
It was Leah, I knew it was her. The voice that treacherously pulled itself through the air was pained, but unmistakeable. Why would she be in so much pain? We are in a frickin’ bar!
Leah had been there for me when I had no one else to turn to. Now was my time to repay her. I put all myself into it, willing my eyelids to open. And they did.
Maybe it was self-defence. Maybe the reason my eyes had refused to open was because they knew that I wouldn’t be able to deal with this.
Holy mother fudger.
Book-man was bent over Leah, slowly trailing his fingers over her skin leaving a bloody trail whilst she withered in pain. But she didn’t complain, she didn’t beg him to stop. His nose was wrinkled but there was a fire burning in his red eyes…
… Red eyes. Vampire…
“That’s… it… Give… me… all… you-got.” Her face was bunched up and her entire face had been covered with what looked like blush, but she would not give him the satisfaction. I could see her veins straining in her forehead and her teeth digging into her cheeks.
That’s my Leah.
But I could see him getting bored. He made a u-turn on her knee, moving back up her body. He was running his fingers over her stomach whilst the blood trickled slowly onto the floor.
I wanted to run over, I wanted to punch his bloody face in, but I couldn’t move. I was rooted to the spot. Leah was going to die unless I helped her, but there was no way I could. My entire body felt exhausted, every single muscle ached. I wanted to turn my head away, I didn’t want to see anymore…
… But it felt disrespectful. I would relay this back, if ever I survived. I would show everyone how Leah had died: fearless, brave and honourable.
Her lips moved into a scream, but they froze as no sound came out. This was it: if she was even thinking about giving up, it was over.
But I thought I saw something move as a shadow bounded across the wall. A growl erupted all around me drowning out the sound of Book-man’s nails on Leah’s body. Or maybe he had stopped.
I didn’t know.
I didn’t care.
