Hide and Seek

The question that most people have the answer to. Who am I? It was the question I intended to answer. One I know I have to. You know how, as a kid, you had great memories about riding your bike to your grandma’s house, where you would get a batch of warm cookies? Hmmm? Lucky you. I don’t have any memories. Not since I was changed into a vampire. I can’t even remember my own name. So, like any other living...no, that’s not the right word....like any other thing, I am curious. My friend, a nomad I met in my hometown, Burlington, named me Andrea Joyce Chourre, her mother’s name. It stuck with me, however, I did add my own special flare, I’m Andy, not Andrea. I push my Corvette faster, the trees and snow of Vermont only a blur. I don’t know where I am going, and I don’t know where to stop, but I will soon. Even with a Corvette, sleek, aerodynamic as it is, I still need gas. At least I know one thing, Forks, Washington is a long ways away.

Today was the first day of my junior high school year. And I was dreading it.

But Carlisle and Esme said that if I wanted to live in their house, I had to live under their rules, even if I didn’t like it. But you know what, I’m still happy here.

My eyes haven’t changed color since I got here. They stayed emerald green, which made it really easy to fit in with the schools students.

I was readying myself for school, even if I didn’t need to get ready.

As I was standing in front of the massive bathroom mirror, I pushed my strawberry blonde curls out of my green eyes and into a ponytail, only leaving my side bangs to softly cover one half of my face. I

heard Alice call my name, “Andy, let’s, GO!!!” She was jumpy, as per usual.

“Coming.” I called checking my hair to see if it was ready to go. Old habits die hard.

As I trotted down the stairs, Alice grumbled, “Took you long enough.”

“Sorry, Alice, I was having trouble with my hair.”

She snorted, “Seriously, Andy, I would give anything to have your hair. You should wear it down.”

“Thanks for the compliment, Alice, but I like my hair up.

“Dibs on my car!” I yelled before anyone else could. I still had my Corvette, and I knew it would be the center of attention when we got to school, but I needed the relaxation, not a neon yellow color from Alice.

I climbed into my car, my legs almost getting stuck I was so tall. Maybe 6’2, 6’3ish. I need to measure myself one of these days.

I flipped on my Coldplay cd, my favorite band of all time. They were relaxing and poetic, two things I loved and needed on my first day in high school.

I got to school before anyone else did, possibly because of my maniac driving. I was even worse than Edward, which was a new low, even for me.

I parked the car and as I got out, Edward pulled in beside me, Alice, Jasper, and Bella climbing out.

Emmett and Rosalie took their own car, surprise, surprise.

We walked into the office together. But since I was the only one that needed to be registered, only Bella stayed with me, which I was most happy about.

“Ms. Cope?” Bella said in her soprano voice, calling the attention to the lady sitting at the front desk.

Bella went on, “Ms. Cope, this is the new Cullen, Andy. But you probably have her registered as Andrea Joyce Chourre. Her name’s really Andy Cullen.”

“Oh, another Cullen?” She said, appraising my tall, slender figure, framed elegantly by skinny jeans and a new Hollister long-sleeved shirt.

“Yes, ma’am. Could you give me my class schedule and the paper work?”

“Why, yes, yes of course.” She handed me my schedule and papers, and began explaining things I had heard billion of times on end.

I simply nodded when I need to and looked at her and smiled, but in reality, I was daydreaming.

I was paying attention when she let me leave. “You’re in good hands with, Bella here. A great student, and she knows the school very well.” Ms. Cope said, a proud smile on her face. Bella was embarrassed as she tripped stumbling out of the office.

As I walked out, Bella being out of earshot I said, “I couldn’t agree more with you Ms. Cope.” And I closed the door, welcoming my first day of hell.
