Hide and Seek

Summary:
The question that most people have the answer to. Who am I? It was the question I intended to answer. One I know I have to. You know how, as a kid, you had great memories about riding your bike to your grandma’s house, where you would get a batch of warm cookies? Hmmm? Lucky you. I don’t have any memories. Not since I was changed into a vampire. I can’t even remember my own name. So, like any other living...no, that’s not the right word....like any other thing, I am curious. My friend, a nomad I met in my hometown, Burlington, named me Andrea Joyce Chourre, her mother’s name. It stuck with me, however, I did add my own special flare, I’m Andy, not Andrea. I push my Corvette faster, the trees and snow of Vermont only a blur. I don’t know where I am going, and I don’t know where to stop, but I will soon. Even with a Corvette, sleek, aerodynamic as it is, I still need gas. At least I know one thing, Forks, Washington is a long ways away.

6. More Rules?!?!

Rating 5/5   Word Count 930   Review this Chapter

As the day came to a close, I was happy that I didn’t have any friends other than the Cullens, aside from one.

Living in a small town must make people weird. Not like I should be talking, I lived in Burlington, another small town.

I lifted my newspaper boy bag into my Corvette. My sixth period teacher had let us out early, so I left Edward a message on his car saying I had already left and would be at home soon.

I drove to the local newspaper stand. Gina had knocked this into me. We would break open the newspaper box to steal the comics, then see who could put it back together fastest. She won most of the time.

I read the latest Pearls Before Swine comics and just about died…again. It was so hilarious, I could’ve sworn that Rat was me!!! Same sense of humor.

I chuckled as I put it back and used my screwdriver to put the stand back together. I stepped back into the car, driving away from the stand.

When I arrived, all the Cullens were sitting around waiting for me.

What did I do this time? I groaned mentally.

“You didn’t do anything. Yet.” Edward said happily.

“What do you mean yet?!” I said, on a short temper

“What Edward means is that we do have some other rules here.” Carlisle said smoothly.

“More rules?!?! I already have to go to high school!”

Emmett cut in, “Yeah, why do we have to go to high school?”

“Emmett.” Esme warned quietly. He looked at the floor.

I returned my gaze to Carlisle, who was patiently waiting for my full attention.

“Sorry, I get distracted easily.”

“We can see that!” Emmett boomed.

“Emmett!” They all shouted in unison.

“Jeez, sorry. You guys are so serious all the time.”

“Yeah, Emmett, I wouldn’t mess with them, they really are serious.” Their normal purple and yellows had changed to the color of anger and worry.

“What do you mean?” Emmett asked. He was always so curious…and annoying.

Edward chuckled as my thoughts ran through his head.

Carlisle cut in, “The treaty, Emmett.”

“Oh.” Even Emmett’s aura had changed color.

Now I was curious. If something could put Emmett off, I wanted to know what it was.

“What treaty?”

“Well, Andy, you got very close to crossing the line when you went to the newsstand.”

“How did you know-

Carlisle cut me off, impatient. Something he never was. “You can’t pass that line. We have a treaty with these animals in La Push. They know about our secret.”

Bella was fuming. “Carlisle, they are not animals. How would you like it if I called you animals?”

“Sorry, Bella. That was rude.” She was unhappy, that much was clear.

She crossed her arms as she sat down on the couch with a huff.

“What do you mean, I thought we were the only vampires in this area?” I was still confused.

“We are. These peopleCarlisle said painfully “Are not vampires, they’re…werewolves.” He said, gauging my reaction.

I didn’t even know what they were.

“They’re our natural enemies. They are men, but have the spirit of a wolf inside them, allowing them to transform into a wolf” Edward said, explaining.

“I see.” Finally, someone was able to explain.

“Two generations ago, we made a treaty with Ephriam Black, the leader of the tribe. The mutant gene has been passed down, Bella made friends with his grandson.

“The treaty clearly states that we are not allowed to bite a human or reveal their secret. I think that they will believe that we created you. That’s grounds to start a war, something we don’t want” Edward continued.

“So we have to give all this up, what do they have to give up?”

“They cannot reveal our secret, or come on our territory while we’re here. We’ll have to find a meeting place to discuss you.” Rosalie stated, venom in her voice.

I ignored her just like everyone else did.

“Jacob could come!” Bella said happily, her aura glowing with joy.

Edward snarled under his breath, his aura showing hate. I was hearing snippets of what he was thinking it was so strong. That dog. He’s taking away MY Bella. He doesn’t deserve her, no one does.

I was speechless that Edward would think that, he wasn’t usually a hostile person. Maybe I could share this with the rest of the family. A smug thought crossed my mind as I opened my mouth to speak.

Alice sprung up from her seat. “Edward, cover Andy’s mouth!”

“What?” he said, but happily did what Alice said. Me, on the other hand, not so much.

“Andy, don’t say it. Bella’ll be ticked.” Alice warned.

I grumbled, not wanting to hurt Bella’s feelings.

Edward released me reluctantly, enjoying my silence. I sent him some nasty thoughts, but he just snickered.

“So, is Jake coming?” Bella said impatiently.

“I guess.” Edward said.

Alice and Jasper were huddled together, speaking so quietly, even I couldn’t hear.

Rosalie just got up and left, Emmett sighed, angry with her. They were such a wrong match. Rosalie doesn’t deserve Emmett. Maybe Gina. Something to think about.

“I’ll call him.” Bella said so happily.

She skipped out of the room, almost falling flat on her face. Edward rushed over and caught her, chuckling as she blushed. They were so cute together! They really were soul mates.

As they got out, I heard Bella on the phone with this Jacob character.

“Hey, Jake!” She said enthusiastically.

I heard a deep, husky voice on the other end.

“Hey, Bells.”

“So, can you come over today. The Cullens need to talk to you. Sam too.”

“Alright.” He said warily.

“So how soon will I see you?”

“Gimme five, ten minutes. Sam and I will be there, in human form.”

“Got it. See you soon!”

“See ya.” The click ended the conversaiton, starting yet another issue.
