Ruby Oliver

It was his fault. His entire fault. If it wasn’t for him, mom and me wouldn’t be here. Mom wouldn’t be heartbroken and I wouldn’t be, well, how I am.

Wait, rewind. I’ll start from the beginning.

When my mom was seventeen, she fell in love. But he left her. Left her depressed, heartbroken and bleeding her heart out. Then she met another man, my father, Luke, and fell in love once again. When mom was eighteen she found out she was pregnant with me. Dad and her eloped and then twelve months later they had me, Ruby Olivia Oliver.

He left us when I was twelve. Old enough to remember everything about him, and old enough to hurt, to miss him. He left mom juggling two jobs, and me, trying to make her proud, getting good grades. I guess it worked; I’m first in line for valedictorian this year.

But anyway, two years later mom was in debt. She met up with some guy who went to her high school, Mike Newton. Mom needed money and he wanted a wife. We didn’t know it would turn out like this, but I had a bad feeling. I tried to tell her, but she wouldn’t listen. They were married for two months before he started drinking. He came home drunk every night and beat mom and eventually me, till morning. It was pretty sick, but hey, what was I going to do? When I turned fifteen, mom secretly filed for a divorce. She hid it from him until our attorney showed up at the door and made him sign. Mom was already packed and we left with them.

Mom and I never told anyone about the abuse. We figured it would all go away. That was until he decided to take mom to court, claiming she was an unfit mother. We won that with pure luck. Turns out the judge was one of mom’s friends from high school, Angela Weber. When she saw the case, she demanded she take it over to help mom out. She knew mom could never be an unfit mother.

But as I said none of this would have happened if it wasn’t for guy number one. The one that left her. She wouldn’t have been heartbroken enough to marry my dad, and then have him walk out. She wouldn’t have had me, and she wouldn’t have had to re-marry an abusive man for money.

And if it wasn’t for everything I wouldn’t have dealt with this by becoming the school slut. I wouldn’t have shagged half the school and been labeled as a whore. If it wasn’t for everything I wouldn’t have had that one night stand with Brendon Smith.

And I wouldn’t be pregnant with his baby.

Shocking, yes, I’m pregnant, doesn’t take a genius to figure it out. All the symptoms are there. Morning sickness, raging hormones, cravings, ect. Not exactly sure how to tell my mom, or how to get to a doctor to confirm it before I tell my mom.

And I’m not quite sure how I’m going to raise a kid. Any suggestions?
