La Tua Cantante

Summary:
As usual, this will come in two parts: Edward's pov and Bella's, but the first is always Bella's. I got this idea from watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when Angel got shot with a poisoned arrow and has to drink Buffy's blood to survive. This is pretty much mid-Eclipse and the Volturi infected Edward with a disease called "Distruzione" (Italian for "Destruction") which only affects vampires and he will die unless he drinks the blood of his la tua cantante, which is Bella. This is just more hardships for Edward and Bella to fight through, but as always, they fight it together and never give up.

There are some adult-themed situations, so unfortunately this fanfic will have to be rated Adult instead of Everyone. Sorry to my younger fans, but please, exercise caution when reading this fanfic. It will get extremely detailed.

14. Chapter 14: First Night

Rating 5/5   Word Count 1619   Review this Chapter

We played games all night and just hung out. It was a blast; I had never had so much fun in my life. I really enjoyed getting to know Jasper better, too. I hadn't realized how amazing he was. I had never laughed so hard before. Of course, part of that might have been the caffeine from the Monster.

At one point, I was laughing so hard that they all just stared at me, amused. "No more caffeine for you," Edward said, with an amused smirk.

Once I settled down, we finished the game and then Edward played Name-that-tune with Alice and Jasper, playing mostly songs that I had never heard of. I recognized Claire de Lune right off the bat and a couple of others, but most of them were unfamiliar to me.

They played for hours...it wasn't until I rested my head against Edward's shoulder wearily that he finished off with my lullaby. However, he played the entire song of my lullaby, whereas he only played a portion of the others.

When he finished, he bowed his head almost solemnly and let the sound of the last note resonate into the voide before raising his head again. He smiled slightly and turned around, pulling me onto his lap, wrapping his arms around my waist and raising his head boastfully.

He kissed me softly on the lips and rested his forehead against mine, before saying, softly, "We should probably get you home; it's almost one."

"Mm." I protested, but he smiled and said, "I'll stay with you...I promise. And, Jasper will come with us, won't you?" He asked, looking to him.

Jasper nodded, "Absolutely."

"Why?" I asked.

"Trust me; we'll...need him." Edward said, standing up and setting me to my feet. "Meet you at the car," he told Jasper, leading me out, so that Jasper could say good-bye to Alice.

Then, we waited in the car for him. He came out almost immediately, got in, and we sped off.

Once we got to the house, Edward immediately came to my side and wrapped an arm around my waist to lead me inside. Jasper followed, keeping his distance, but it was clear his resistance was definitely building.

We got inside and Edward turned the light on. Even though the house was in perfect order, I could see everything that happened, replaying it all in my head, as if playing a horror film.

I could feel every ounce of pain and fear as if it was happening right now; I could hear every scream, every sob. I could still taste the bitter taste of Jacob's kisses; I could taste my blood.

I staggered slightly and stifled a sob of pain and fear. "No..." I sobbed, grabbing onto Edward for dear life.

"Bella, it's okay, love; I'm right here. I'm right here." He held me closer and I tightened my arms around his neck, buried my face in his chest, staggered again, and sobbed relentlessly.

I could barely feel it as he picked me up and carried me over to the couch, lying down on it, with me in his arms.

He tightened his arms around me and kissed my head, whispering, "Bella, I'm sorry...I'm so sorry." He began stroking my hair and rubbing my back soothingly.

I couldn't answer him out loud; the memories were too painful; almost unbearable. If I didn't have Edward here with me, I would have broken down completely by now.

"Edward..." I sobbed his name repeatedly and his voice was strained as he shushed me and wiped my tears, saying, "Please don't cry, love...I can't...I can't bear to see you in such agony." I tried to stop for him but I couldn't. "Jasper, please..."Edward pleaded, in an agonized tone.

Suddenly, strong waves of calm surged through me, calming me to silent tears. I struggled to breathe, heaving as tears streamed down my cheeks, onto Edward's shirt, soaking it.

I clenched my fist around his t-shirt and clung to it desperately like a security blanket as I kissed his neck once. I buried my face in his neck, kissed it again, and stifled another sob, before silently crying myself to sleep.

Before I fell completely asleep, I heard Edward whisper, "I love you," into my hair.

When I woke up, I raised my head from his neck--it hadn't moved--and I looked up at him. My face was still tear-stained and I was trembling slightly.

"Hey," he said, pushing my hair back from my face.

Waves of calm engulfed me and I felt an inner peace take over, erasing every fear I felt. I nestled into Edward and sighed, contentedly, allowing my troubles to fade away and the calm to consume me.

Once I had settled down and felt totally, 100% at peace, Edward kissed my head, and said, "You okay?"

I nodded, "Yeah...fine...I just...didn't expect it to hit me that hard. I didn't expect it to hurt so much."

He tilted my head up to look at him and said, "You have every right to be hurting, bella. I won't kill Jacob, not today, but I will never forgive him for what he did to you. I might have to be civil to him, but that does not mean I have to like him."

"No, you don't," I said, "You don't have to be civil to him; he doesn't deserve it. Stupid. Dog!" I muttered bitterly.

"Bella," he reprimanded, "Just because I have the reputation of a monster doesn't mean I wanna uphold it. I might be an animal, but I don't want to be. And, I can control my instincts and remain as human as possible. I will do just that. For you, for Carlisle, and as much as it pains me to say this, for the dog!" He scoffed and hugged me closer.

"You're not a monster," I said, softly, "If anyone is the monster here, it's him."

Edward shook his head, in disbelief, "I just...I never thought him capable of this. Of hurting you like this. He's a brat by nature; I get that, but to resort to such a terrible act..." He broke himself off and sighed, sadly, "I'm sorry. I'm...so sorry. I should've been there for you. I should've been there to help you."

"You did." I said, taking his face in my hands, "You've always been there for me."

"Yeah...and it always seems to be a second too late."

"But, you're there. Edward, of all that I've been through, I always knew that I could count on you. You've always protected me, no matter what. You can't help that you can't be with me every second of everyday and I don't expect you to."

He smiled slightly, "Would be nice, though, wouldn't it?"

"No...it'd be perfect." His smile widened and I sighed softly, "Thank you...for everything." He kissed my forehead and tightened his hold on me. "So...I take it you guys fixed everything?"

He nodded, "Emmett, Esme, Rosalie, and Alice mostly. Emmett had way too much fun with it."

"Thanks. Saves me a lot of explaining to Charlie."

"Some; not all."

"Some's better than none. What is the story anyway?" I asked, looking up at him.

"The truth," he said, regretfully, "It's the only way to explain everything rationally. Besides, I'm not leaving you here alone; not for a second. So, we have to have an explanation so he won't try to kill me. Thank God we have Jasper here; he can help keep Charlie under control."

That's right! I had forgotten about Jasper being here. I looked over at him and smiled, "Hey."

"Hey, Bella," he said, clearly catching my memory loss. "How are you?"

I considered it before saying, "Good...thanks." He nodded and I sighed, wearily, "Gah, I have a headache! I hate crying like that."

"I know," Edward said, softly, "Here; I'll get you some Ibuprofen." He sat up slowly, setting me down, and said, "Can I get you anything else? Some breakfast or some water or something?"

I shrugged, "Just some water'll be fine. I'm not hungry right now."

He caressed my face, kissed my forehead, and smiled before going into the kitchen.

I rested my head against the cushion and massaged my temples wearily. "Ugh..." I moaned, as the waves of calm once again surged through me.

I closed my eyes and allowed myself to get lost in them. Suddenly, Edward's hand was on my forehead and he lightly trailed it down my cheek to caress it lightly.

I held my hand over his and opened my eyes to see him hovering over me. Definitely the most beautiful sight in the world.

"Poor baby," he said, stroking my cheek.

I smiled slightly and he handed me the Ibuprofen and a glass of water. I took the medicine and then drained the water in one gulp.

Edward sat down and pulled me into his arms so that I was lying in between his legs with my head lolling against his chest.

He kissed my forehead three times before lightly massaging my head with his fingertips. Both the coolness of his fingers and the pressure felt so good.

And, Jasper's emotional waves definitely helped to keep me calm. If he hadn't have been here last night, I don't know how I would've made it. Even sleeping would've been much too painful.

"Bella, are you sure you're okay?" Edward asked, uncertainly.

"As good as I can be." I said, truthfully. "Once this headache goes away, things will be easier to deal with. I just...wish I could stay at your house. It's like a safe haven for me. I love your house. Sometimes, it feels even more like home than this place does."

He leaned the side of his head against mine and nodded, "I know how you feel."

He kissed my neck softly three times before tightening his arms around me and simply holding me.
