La Tua Cantante

As usual, this will come in two parts: Edward's pov and Bella's, but the first is always Bella's. I got this idea from watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when Angel got shot with a poisoned arrow and has to drink Buffy's blood to survive. This is pretty much mid-Eclipse and the Volturi infected Edward with a disease called "Distruzione" (Italian for "Destruction") which only affects vampires and he will die unless he drinks the blood of his la tua cantante, which is Bella. This is just more hardships for Edward and Bella to fight through, but as always, they fight it together and never give up.

There are some adult-themed situations, so unfortunately this fanfic will have to be rated Adult instead of Everyone. Sorry to my younger fans, but please, exercise caution when reading this fanfic. It will get extremely detailed.

Edward released me, taking his time in doing so, and rose to his feet, pulling me to mine, wrapping his arm around waist, and pulling me in close. "Charlie," he said in acknowledgement. Thank God for Jasper, Charlie's anger melted away, replaced by confusion, it seemed, as he said, staring blankly at Edward, "What the hell are you doing here?"

"Dad, please -"

"You...stay out of this, young lady. I will deal with you later. Right now, my problem is with Edward - you'd do well to go to your room."

He used almost the exact words Jacob did, only substituting his name for the word: bloodsucker. I had flashes of Jacob and me and staggered, catching myself on Edward. "No..." I said weakly, burying my face in his chest to erase the images that were now practically ingrained within me.

"Bella?" Edward hugged me close and sat down, pulling me onto his lap and holding me. He moved my hair back from my face and began tracing my features.

"Bella!" Charlie said, now approaching us, "What is it; what's wrong?"

Edward pressed his lips to my forehead and whispered words of comfort to me as I clung even tighter to him. Charlie made to take me from Edward, but noticed my wounds from Jacob, and gasped. He touched one, tracing it, but causing it to throb with intense pain. I cringed and screamed, turning into Edward.

"What the HELL happened to my daughter, Cullen?!" Charlie asked angrily. Jasper sent more calming waves over him and even some to me. Edward kept his voice soft and calm as he said, "Charlie, please, calm down. Bella was..." He stiffened up and forced the words out, "...raped...by Jacob Black."

"What?" Charlie said, sounding more shocked than anything else. "Bella?"

I looked up at him and nodded, "It's true...Jake...he - he got mad at me and..." I couldn't say it. "Edward saved me." That should get him some brownie points.

"And where were you when this was happening to Bella?!" Charlie demanded. Maybe not.

"I was honoring your wishes by staying away from her until your return," God, his lie was so believable...even I almost bought it, knowing the truth. Charlie simply stared at me, not knowing how to react.

"WHY would Jacob do this?" Charlie asked angrily.

Edward flinched, but Charlie didn't notice. "I don't know," he said softly. "Charlie, I'm sorry. I know you asked me to stay away, but Bella needed me...I couldn't leave her alone. Not after that."

Charlie looked as if he doubted his motives for staying. Confirming my suspicions, Edward shook his head and said, "Charlie, I know what you're thinking, and I assure you, I -"

"Don't go there." Charlie said, casting a glance at me. "Just...don't. Don't you dare tell me you know what I'm thinking; you couldn't have the slightest clue what I'm thinking. As far as I'm concerned, you are just as bad as Jacob! You both have destroyed my daughter's life and you can never know what it is like. Not unless you are her father...watching your only daughter suffer hell from a boy that broke her heart. If you

loved her, you never would have done that to her. What makes you any better than Jake, huh?"

Edward flinched so hard that I literally shook with him. "DAD!" I yelled, "STOP! Don't do this. How dare you compare Edward to Jacob?! As if he's some monster? He's NOT. He never meant to hurt me; Jake did."

"That's enough, Bella!" Charlie reprimanded. "I will not allow you to keep doing this to yourself."

"What are you doing to do about it, huh?" I challenged. "You can't change my mind."

"Enough. Bella." Edward said, understanding more than me. "It's okay. He's right."

"No...he's not. Will you stop telling me what's right for me?! I make my own decisions, and I will not leave you."

He cupped my face in his palm and said, "No one's asking you to."

I looked at him pleadingly. "Edward, please...tell him."

He didn't answer, so Jasper said, "Fine...I wilil."

Edward cast him a threatening glare, I glanced hopefully at him, and Charlie jerked around forcefully. "Who are you?"

Jasper smiled politely, "I'm Jasper; Edward's older brother. It's nice to meet you officially, sir."

"Mm-hmm," Charlie forced out, clearly struggling to remain as polite as Jasper was.

"Sir, if I may, Edward is not what you make him out to be. He loves Bella more than you could ever know."

"Well, with all due respect, I believe this has nothing to do with you. I appreciate your loyalty toward your brother, but it is my role as a father to keep my daughter safe."

"And I assure you, she cannot be safer with anyone but Edward. Look, I know this is hard to believe, but turning things around on Edward won't change what happened. He did everything he could to keep her safe...that's all you can ask for."

Charlie shook his head. "You couldn't understand...what do you know?"

"I know Edward and he is hurting just as much - maybe even more than you. You don't understand what Bella means to Edward. You cannot blame him for this. It's not him you're mad at. It's Jacob. Jacob is the one that intentionally hurt Bella and you don't know what to do with that. It would be...so much easier for you if it was Edward, wouldn't it? It would be easier to hate him. It isn't his fault, though. Jacob knew exactly what he was doing. If anyone deserves to be hated, it's him."

Charlie simply stared at him, twitching slightly, as he turned to look at me. He knelt down and placed his hand hesitatnly over mine and hung his head regretfully. "I'm sorry, Bella. I'm so sorry. I should've been here for you."

"It's ok, Dad," I said, stiffening up slightly. "I don't blame...you."

He began trembling, almost as if struggling not to cry, as he said, "This is my fault. If I had never left this wouldn'tv'e happened."

"Dad, please, don't -"

I didn't know how to deal with emotion from him; it was unfamiliar territory. I looked to Jasper for help and immediately, Charlie calmed down, simply staring down at the ground as he recovered. I hesitated before reaching my hand out and touching his shoulder.

"I'm fine...trust me."

He was silent for awhile, clearly struggling, not knowing what to do. After a moment, he looked up angrily and said, "You're absolutely right. It is Jacob's fault. Where is the worthless brat, huh? He does NOT hurt my daughter and get away with it."

Edward stiffened up and said, "Charlie, please, don't. Everything's taken care of. He's in jail where he belongs."

"No, he belongs in Hell!" Charlie said angrily, through clenched teeth. I had no further argument, but Edward did - damn it.

"Charlie, don't. That won't make you any better than him."

"Do you really think I give a DAMN about the high road right now?!"

"Of course not." Edward rose to his feet, sitting me up, but keeping his hand on mine. "But that is not our decision to make. Bella deserves justice for what he did not to her, not vengence. Vengence helps nothing. It only makes matters worse. You're the chief of police; you know that revenge is never the answer."

"This is different," he insisted.

"No...it's not. Believe me, I wanted to kill Jacob too. I wanted him to suffer endlessly for what he did...but that is not our decision. He will suffer...the right way. I want him to understand the pain he put Bella through. And he will."

Charlie simply stared at him and Jasper sent waves of calm over him.

"You're right," Charlie said. "Fine...I'm going to the station. I'm going to ensure he has the worst future possible." He took off without another word and I sighed, "Wow. That was...strange. I've never seen him like that before."

Edward didn't answer me, but turned to Jasper, "Jazz, how are you holding up?"

Jasper said, "I think I should go. Now."

"Go on." Edward said immediately. "Go! We'll be ok."

Jasper took off and I said, "Is he ok?"

"He can't handle Charlie's scent. He accustomed himself to your scent the same way I did, but his resistance for others is still weak. I don't want to push him over the edge. I'd rather be safe than sorry. He'll be back soon - he just needs time."

I nodded, almost numbly, and simply stared into space, absorbing everything that had happened. He came and knelt down in front of me, bending down to look in my eyes. "Hey...are you ok?"

I smiled sadly. "Yeah. It's just hard. Everything's going to be different now, isn't it? Nothing will ever be the same."

He touched my face and shook his head. "No...I'm afraid not. But one thing is certain and unchanging: me. I will always be here for you. As Caesar said, 'My love for you is as constant as the north star' - with a detail or two changed."

I chuckled softly and he kissed me lightly, before saying, "I love you."

I smiled against his lips and hugged him, clinging to him. I sniffed in and buried my face in his shoulder. He tightened his hold on me and sighed softly. When I finally pulled away, I said, "I want to see Jake."

"No, Bella," he protested, shaking his head.

"Please...I need closure, Edward. I want hm to see what he's done to me."

"Do you think that will make it easier? To let him go?"

"Maybe not," I admitted, "But it might help."

He nodded. "Fine...but I'm coming with you."

I nodded and helped me up before leading me out to the car. We got to the station and simply waited in the car as I stared at it.

"Bella, you don't have to do this," Edward said softly.

"Yes, I do. I need to...say goodbye."

The words caused me agonizing pain and I could feel a part of me die. The damage was not as great as it had been when Edward left...when Edward left, all I wanted was to literally die to ease my pain. I had no reason to live; none at all. But the pain I felt right now was nothing compared to that pain. In fact, I gladly would've taken that pain as a distraction. As Edward took my andn and brought it up to his lips to kiss it, I knew that I would make it. Everything would be fine because I had Edward by my side to help me. That's all that really mattered. I smiled and and nodded, not looking at him, "I'm ready."

After a moment, he said, "Okay..." and then got out and helped me out. He wrapped an arm tightly around my waist, clutching me to his side protectively and lovingly, took my hand with his free one, entwined our fingers, kissed my forehead, and then sighed before leading me inside.
