La Tua Cantante

As usual, this will come in two parts: Edward's pov and Bella's, but the first is always Bella's. I got this idea from watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when Angel got shot with a poisoned arrow and has to drink Buffy's blood to survive. This is pretty much mid-Eclipse and the Volturi infected Edward with a disease called "Distruzione" (Italian for "Destruction") which only affects vampires and he will die unless he drinks the blood of his la tua cantante, which is Bella. This is just more hardships for Edward and Bella to fight through, but as always, they fight it together and never give up.

There are some adult-themed situations, so unfortunately this fanfic will have to be rated Adult instead of Everyone. Sorry to my younger fans, but please, exercise caution when reading this fanfic. It will get extremely detailed.

After awhile, Carlisle approached us, looking terrified as he tried to avoid my eyes, clearly so he could not see my pain.

"What is it, Carlisle?" Alice asked, sounding as scared as I felt.

He shook his head slightly, "I'm not...quite sure. I have an idea, but if it is what I think it is, we have a problem."

"What?!" I asked, frantically, looking up at him desperately.

I couldn't help but glance over at Edward to see Esme kneeling beside him, one hand on his now bare chest, and the other lightly dabbing at his face with a damp cloth. She looked so pained and scared--in the way only a mother could. When had she come in? I hadn't even noticed her.

Carlisle was about to answer when Edward stirred, and groaned in pain, "Bella..." he called deliriously, "Bella?"

I ran over to him and knelt beside him, taking Esme's place. She had moved immediately to let me be with him. "Edward! Edward, are you okay?!"

"No..." He shook his head weakly and said, "I'm...dying."

"No." I said, firmly, through the tears that were welling up in my eyes, "No! You are not going to die, do you hear me? I will not let you die."

"Mm..." he reached out weakly and touched my face, "It's okay, love...It past my time long ago. No one can cheat death, I guess. Not even me."

"Stop it!" I nearly shouted, "Stop trying to say good-bye like it's over; it is never over."

"Bella...we can't stop it. We don't even know what it is."

"We'll figure it out," I said, my voice cracking, "We will; you just can't give up. Keep fighting. You have to fight it."

"I'm tired of fighting, Bella." He said, obviously devastated by his own words.

"Not even for me?" I asked, a tear streaming down my cheek.

He strained to reach up and kiss my tear away, before kissing my lips softly. He didn't answer as he released me, his eyes never leaving mine.

"Bella?" Carlisle said, softly, "Can I speak to you, please?"

Edward nodded and lightly pushed me to urge me to go.

Carlisle helped me up and led me outside. Alice and Esme followed shortly after and Carlisle said, to them, "Alice, Esme, go home. I need to speak with Bella."

Alice's eyes widened, in realization, "No...you can't. Carlisle, you cannot do this. Edward won't. He'll--"

"It's the only way, Alice."

"What?" I asked, miserably.

"But, Carlisle--"

"Go home, Alice." Carlisle ordered, "Now. Please. If he doesn't do it, he will die."

"Do what?!" I asked, now getting frustrated, "What's going on?"

Alice exhaled shakily, looking torn, as Esme wrapped her arm around her shoulder. "Come on, sweetheart. Let's go home."

Alice obliged, following Esme, and then Carlisle turned to me.

"If I am correct, Edward ahs been infected with a disease called Distruzione--or destruction, in English--that only kills vampires. The Volturi use it against their enemies if they fear that their enemy could grow more powerful than them and overthrow them. It is quite logical that Edward is now on their bad side....They asked him to join them and he refused...he gave up a chance to be with them for a human girl. For that reason alone, Caius would not hesitate to use this as the method to kill him. He wants him to suffer for what he did. Caius always was the most cruel of the three."

"Can we stop it? Is there any way to cure him?" I asked, desperately.

He simply stared at me for a moment, before saying, "Your blood. The only cure is to drink the blood of his la tua cantante--and that's you. Otherwise, he will die."

I considered that before saying, with conviction, "Then that's what he'll do."

Carlisle shook his head, "Alice is right. He'll never do it. He'd rather die than endanger you like that."

"He doesn't get a choice." I argued, "He will live. If that means I die, then so be it. Or maybe he can change me now."

"He can't." Carlisle said, remorsefully, "He's too weak; his venom--it--wouldn't be effective. It would only kill you."

"For sure?"

Carlisle shrugged uncertainly. I made to walk into the house when he grabbed my arm, firmly but kindly, "Bella, you don't have to do this. I love Edward too, and I would sacrifice my life in a second to save his. But, I would never expect you to. Neither would Edward."

I gently freed my arm, "Well, it's my life to sacrifice, is it not?"

Carlisle simply stared at me, in an admiring way. "I admire your courage, Bella. But, sometimes it's not enough."

"If it saves Edward, it''s enough. It's more than enough. What would you do if that was Esme in there?"

He nodded, "I would do just that. I would do whatever it took to save her."

"Then, let me do the same." I begged, struggling not to cry again.

He smiled, sadly yet encouragingly, and said, sitting on the porch, "I'll be out here in case anything goes wrong. Be careful, Bella; please. As much as I love Edward, I love you, too. I see you as my daughter as well."

I smiled sadly and said, "Love you," softly, before going inside.
