He'd never look twice, not at a creature like me.
Of course he wouldn't; there was nothing to see.
My nose was too wide for beauty and a little too flat.
My eyes were set wrong, like they'd just been splat.
I wasn't ever so lovely, I wasn't the best.
But he surely was, the best of the best.

He sat infront of me an entire year.
He'd turned around thrice, his face perfectly sincere.
A pencil to borrow, some notes to jot.
Then he'd turn around, as if to forget me to rot.
I studied his back, the tilt of his head.
I sat there and pondered, all these things in my head.

My heart would ache and ache in those days.
The pangs in my chest hurt in unbearable ways.
I was sure that I loved him, deep deep in my heart.
But my existence was a mystery, right from the start.
But then with my luck, he turned right around.
He looked at my face and our lives turned around.

He'd finally looked twice, and now never away.
He's still 'my guy' to this day.
Two little tots, a house up in town.
These are things gained since a day in a gown.
I'm still not so lovely, I'm still not the best.
But he surely is, the best of the best.
