"Wake up!"

"Wh-what? Edward, what is going on?" I was really groggy this morning. For some reason, I'd had a dream that Edward proposed and I'd accepted.

He sighed. "Alice had a vision of us getting married in Las Vegas, and is on her way to stop us. We have to get in the car now. We'll call Charlie from the car saying that we left for your mom's. He'll believe it."

"Good plan except for the fact that he'll call Renee and we'll be found out." Edward usually thought of this like that. Did he just wake up too?

"We are going to go to Vegas for a couple hours and then on to Jacksonville. We'll blame the time discrepancy on delays. Now, let’s get going...that is, if you still want to marry me." He tried to mask the pain that suddenly crossed his face, but I knew him well enough to see it. How could he doubt me now?

"Yes, I'll do anything than face the wrath of Alice and her wedding notions!" We both smiled.

Edward ran me to the Volvo, which was parked around the corner, and headed for the freeway on ramp.

He handed me a tiny silver cell phone and I dialed the police station. Charlie was very understanding and even excited that I was going to see my mother.

As I hung up, I sighed. "That was easy. He didn't even give me any grief about missing a school day."

"That is because he didn't know I am with you, or that we are going to get married." We both laughed.

"Yes. I think he would have a slight problem with that, maybe." It was silent for a while; I sat and listened to the radio as we sped down the highway toward SeaTac Airport.

We landed in Las Vegas, where a rented, black Italian sports car was already waiting for us. We sped down the strip to a drive through window chapel. The ceremony took all of twenty minutes. It was strange to think I was getting married, and not just ordering a McFlurry.

I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable, I mean I was eighteen, in Las Vegas, and getting married; just what every parent wants for their child.

As we drove away, Edward wore a huge smile, which seemed light up the whole car. We were married, and I had skipped the poofy, white dress shopping.

I turned to him and said guiltily, "Edward, I know that you would have preferred to get married in front of your family. After I'm a vampire I will marry you again, in front of everyone, if that is what you wish." To tell the truth I actually liked getting married.

Edward answered, "I would like that. Actually I'd marry you every day if it made you smile even slightly. I love you Mrs. Cullen."

That was weird. I was Mrs. Cullen now. Somehow, I didn't think I'd ever get used to the name, even if I had all eternity to do so. "Well, I love you too, Mr. Cullen."

When I looked away, we were at the airport and Edward was opening my door for me. We boarded the flight bound for Jacksonville.

I'd worn the beautiful engagement ring Edward had given my since last night, but my mother could not see this.... "Edward, I want to wear this ring, but not in front of people who should remain uninformed on our state of affairs. Do you have a suggestion of what to do?"

He thought and then pulled a long, intricate, silver chain out of his pocket. He took my ring, slid it on, and fastened the clasp around my neck. The ring fell under my shirt and was completely invisible.

I found myself longing for the day when I could wear my ring without fear. It was strange: now that I was married, I wondered why I'd ever tried to reject the idea. Marriage at 18 might not have been right for everyone, but when it came to Edward and me, it was as natural as breathing.

I fell asleep in Edward's arms and didn't awake until he was carrying me off the plane. "You could've woken me, you know." I said, sleepily.

"But I like watching you sleep. Oh, don't sleep talk in front of anyone...except me. You told the whole plane that you secretly got married to a vegetarian vampire named Edward." He was trying to keep from laughing.

My face went scarlet as I replied sarcastically, "Maybe I won't even sleep talk in front of you, Mr. Cullen."

He frowned. "That would make me very, very sad, Mrs. Cullen." He locked his unending topaz eyes with me, and I was lost.

"I think we could work out an arrangement, Mr. Cullen." I replied dreamily. I couldn't wait until I had dazzling capabilities!

"Good." He leaned down and kissed my forehead.

We climbed into another expensive looking car, and drove to Renee's house. She was very shocked upon answering the door. Charlie obviously had decided that a surprise visit would be best. Maybe he just wanted a picture of her expression…

We both smiled at her expression, as I said, "Hi mom. Hope this is a good time to pay a visit."
