9. What Would Happen If She Died?
Rating 0/5 Word Count 1379 Review this Chapter
After the sounds of a few movements over the time of a few minuets, Carlisle’s voice said some sad words “he won’t live much longer.”
That’s when I looked at Jacob’s face; it was one of the guiltiest faces I’ve seen.
No one was talking. It was just too shocking. I knew that someone could die, but I just never believed it would be two people. Sam always was kind of a jerk, but he was still the pack leader.
“What happens now?” I heard Jacob say; no one looked up.
Carlisle took a deep breath and said to all of us, “We just wait for Jane and the others.”
“Are you sure that’s all we can do? There must be something! We can’t just let him die.” Jacob growled.
“Listen Jacob, he’s dead! He would die before we would be able to do anything! Just accept he’s dead!” Edward practically yelled.
“I think I would survive, but what is the plan?” I responded.
“This could get a little dangerous, and you could even die,” Jamie said.
“I think I can live through a little more danger. But would you get guys get hurt?” I said.
This day just got longer.
“There is a small chance that Demetri would, but for you and I the chance would be even greater.” Jamie replied catching my gaze.
“What do we have to do?” I asked, like I would care at this point. I would rather risk dying than spend an eternity with Jane’s haunting and painful gaze.
“Well, Jamie is going to get rid of all of my memories that he’s in or mentioned. Then you guys will have to run.” Demetri said seriously. “Fast.”
“So I will never see you again?” I asked Demetri, “But Jamie will have to leave with me. Wait, why don’t you come with us Demetri?”
“I can’t leave the Volturi because of my brother and Heidi. I love them too much.” Demetri added. “I wish both of you good luck on your trip, and your lives.”
“Can we please have a moment to say goodbye?” Jamie asked me.
They went to one side of the clearing, and I went to the other.
I paid no attention to them as they said goodbye to each other, I just stared up at the sky.
As we all waited in silence, not daring to say anything. The Volturi finally arrived, just to make our day worse.
“So, what’s going to happen to the wolf?” Jane asked; I was disgusted by the hope filling up her voice.
“He’s going to die, and we can do nothing.” Carlisle responded calmly and coolly.
Jane looked like she was debating about what to do now. She would ask a few questions like “How many died today?” and “How important were they?”
“You may have lost enough for today, but you also didn’t fallow up on your promise. Bella is still human.” Jane said, sounding frustrated, “and you said that she would get changed.”
“We will change her; but you have to understand! We couldn’t knowing about the newborns. We wouldn’t be able to control a newborn because of the training that we had to do. We would have to let Bella die! She would try to fight, and would be horrible at it. Now there will be too many deaths so we have to wait even longer. Okay, so just stop nagging us!” Edward exclaimed. Everyone stared at him, “Well isn’t it true?”
“Edward calm down.” Carlisle said to his adopted son.
“No! You guys don’t get it! You put us under way to much pressure and responsibility! Can’t you give us a break?” Edward was yelling at this point. “We can’t do everything; you want to know why the wolves were still here? It was because under so much pressure, we can only do so much! The wolves were rushing to get away, but because of the stress you gave us, we couldn’t handle it! So just accept that vampires are not perfect! You need to give us a break! Two wolves have died today, two lives lost, because you decided that you wouldn’t mind if one of us died! You don’t give a crap about what happens to any of us, you only care if something happens to you!”
“Edward, there is a reason that we put you under so much pressure. We have learned that when we put others under pressure they will react. You weren’t under enough pressure yet. So we had to add that factor and now you have reacted.” Jane said like she would rather be doing something else rite no.
“So you’ll just put us under enough pressure until we crack and decide to join?” Edward growled. “You’ll just wait for us to fall apart, wait until we can’t even stand to talk to each other without it turning into us yelling contest? You would tear this family apart with your greed.”
“Alright, we’ll leave, just promise to change Bella. Soon.” Jane said with finality.
I couldn’t believe it. She was just going to let us go with a warning.
This could not be happening.
“Are you sure that we should do this?” I had to ask Demetri again.
“Yeah, her gift is too valuable. We can’t them down.” He responded. “We have all waited for such a long time; this would just be unfair.”
“I know, but I think that I might not want to risk her life. She seems so nice. Do you remember what happened the last time that one of us got caught?” I questioned him, the memory coming back. Filled with Kate’s screams of pain and torment. The memory always the worst he had. The one he would do anything to erase.
“I’m sorry about what happened to Katherine. She was really nice and I know you loved her. You could have done nothing. She is dead, I’m sorry; she didn’t deserve her fate. I’m sorry.” Demetri said; I could tell he wasn’t lying, but he was probably a little tired about my whining over her death.
“I know, but we need to focus on the Bree issue. Should we really put her through this danger? I don’t know if she would be able to handle it, being a newborn and just loosing everything important to her.” I really couldn’t decide if we could do that to her. Such mixed emotions killed Kate.
“This will be for her own good, we all went through this. We can help her with the pain, and if she really wants us to, you can erase her memories, okay?” Demetri said as I looked at Bree; she had no idea of the trouble and danger she was getting into.
“Alright, I’ll go tell Bree we’re leaving soon.” I turned around and walked over to Bree. Her eyes lightened up when she saw me, but she looked a little nervous. No way I could blame her though, I would be nervous too, wait I already was.
“Get as far away as you can from here and as fast as you can in that direction,” I ordered pointing in the direction away from the Volturi and towards a Port Angeles. “You’ll have to go through a town named Port Angeles, a town--”
“I know where that is, I have relatives there.” Bree interrupted
“Okay, you can’t visit them though, you need to go to the old movie theater and get tickets to the new James Bond movie. In there will be a vampire in her thirties and she will lead you to where you need to go. Ohh, and Bree,” be very careful I wanted to say, but instead I said “get into that theater at any means necessary and as soon as you can; even if you have to sneak in. The time doesn’t matter, just as soon as you can.”
“Okay, when will I see you again?” She asked, with true concern.
“I don’t know Bree, I really don’t know” I said, this is going to be very difficult. “I may die.” A more important thought came into my mind:
