We made it to our cars just in time. The rain was starting to come down harder, penetrating mine and Bella's hair so that it lay limp and wet. Bella's hair had caught some drops, making them glisten and her mascara had started to run down under her eyes, making it look like she was crying. I loved it, it reminded me of when she used to cry, and how beautiful she was when she did, even though it killed me to see her cry.
I had to sit in my car with wet clothes, which killed me to do because I didn't want to ruin the seats. But thankfully they weren't leather, which made it somewhat easier. I started the car and followed Bella out of the forest. She wasn't driving as fast as usual because of the rain. I was the only one in the family that didn't care if it was raining, and still drove my normal speed. If you look at from my view, I'm immortal, so I can't die anyway if the car flips over or anything, but Esme wouldn't be too pleased if I totaled the car . . . come to think of it, neither would Rosalie who spent hours redoing the interior and engine, raising the speed up to one sixty. Before that, it only went one forty.
Bella's eyes caught mine in her rear view mirror. They instantly went back to the road, and I couldn't help but laugh. We play this game when we see how long we can look at someone before they catch us at it. Suddenly my phone buzzed and I picked it up.
“Hello?” I asked.
“Edward?” It was Esme.
“Yes, Esme?” I asked pleasantly.
“Are you still with Carlisle?”
“No, I left the hospital about an hour ago.” I informed her.
“Oh, if you hear from him or anything can you tell him that Jasper and I will be a bit late coming home. It's raining here and it's washing away the animal scents, so we might be a little late.”
“Oh it's raining there too?” i asked.
“Yes, it started about thirty minutes ago, but it was light, now it's just getting harder. We should only be another two hours or so.” she told me.
“Okay, I'll let him know.” I told her.
“Thank you Edward. Good bye.”
“Bye Esme.” I shut my phone and put it back in my pocket. I wonder where they're hunting. I don't remember them telling us where they went, or me at least.

When we got home, we pulled into the garage that we only used on occasions like this. Most of the time we just left the cars in the driveway for convenience. Having to get them out of the garage just took too long. Bella pulled in first, and I waited for her to get out of the way before pulling in next to her.
“Who were you talking to?” she asked when I was out of my car.
“Esme. She wanted us to tell Carlisle that they'll be another two hours because it's raining.” I answered. She came around my car to where I stood, and took my hand before leading me into the house.
“It's raining there too?” she asked. I nodded.
“I guess they stayed close enough that it's raining there too.”
“Oh, well that gives us another two hours without more people to find out about your niece. But Emmett and Rose are home, so unless you want them to find out, you'd better not say anything out loud, or loud enough for them to hear anyway.”
“Why, is it a secret that I might have a niece?” i asked confused.
“Well, only if you want it to be, until you find out if you actually do or not. You know how Emmett gets when he's excited.” I groaned.
“Don't remind me.” When I first called telling Esme that I would be bringing Bella back, Emmett got so excited her broke my piano on accident. I almost killed him when I found out. I would have, if Bella and Alice and Jasper and Carlisle hadn't of held me back. Emmett promised to buy me a new piano, but I told him the only piano I would accept was an antique like the one I had before. He was gone for a week looking for a piano, before he called and told us he found one. It wasn't as good as my old one, but I guess it would have kicked the bucket eventually, especially with Emmett living here. “Yeah, we should keep it quiet, for now. But Carlisle and Alice know.” I warned her.
“Oh yeah, Alice had the vision, and must have told Carlisle, and that's why he asked you to go.” she said matter of factually (right phrase?).
We got into the living room without anyone noticing we were home, so we quickly pulled of our shoes and ran up stairs. The reason why no one found us became apparent when we got up stairs. A weird noise was coming from Rose and Emmett's bedroom. Why they were doing it now when they had their honeymoon, I have no idea. I heard Bella groan before pulling me up the next flight of stairs to our room.
“They do that too much. It's not healthy.” she stated. I chuckled at this before going over to my desk and opening my lap top. It was a Dell, Carlisle got it for me for 'graduation'. I brought it over to our bed and placed it in front of me so that Bella could see it too. It didn't take long to turn on, which I was grateful for because sometimes it can take a while when it needs to update or something. I opened the Internet getting ready to type the web URL, but then paused and looked at Bella.
“Where do I go?” I asked. She shrugged.
“I don't know. Did Alice say she saw where you were?”
“No. She just saw me looking at her family tree.” I told her.
“Maybe if you go to their site it might be there. They might have it there if anywhere.” she suggested. I typed in www.seattleorphanage.com (btw not a real site, i just made it up). The Orphanage home page came up with a picture of the orphanage in the middle and links to the side of it. I looked at the links and picked the one that said, About The Children. I went there to find a long list of names. “What did you say her name was again?” Bella asked.
“Holly Elizabeth Masen.” I told her. “It'll probably be under the 'M's.” She nodded silently next to me and I scrolled down to the M's. Jackie McKee, Jessica Malba, Tyler Marley, Holly Masen. “There it is.” i said out loud, clicking on it.
Her page had a BIO of her on it. I read it out loud to Bella.
“Holly Elizabeth Masen was born in Boise, Idaho on May eighth two thousand ninety seven. (makes sense its that far down the road). Her father died in two thousand one hundred two from cancer when she was five. Her only living relatives were her grandparents, Edward Jacob Masen and Connie Rae White, and they lived in Seattle Washington. The couple was too old to care for her so they brought her to the Seattle Orphanage. Holly's mother left her when she was four.” I stopped reading there. The rest was just hobbies and experience's, little things. I looked over at Bella.
“That's so sad.” she said. “Poor kid. Her mother left her than her father died from cancer.” there was slight pause. “But here it says that her grandparents live Seattle, so that does make sense of why she is here, but we should still check her family tree.” I looked at the top of her page for a link to her family tree. To my surprise I actually found one. This seemed almost too easy. Her family tree came up, and I read it to Bella,
“eight teen ninety five, Anthony Daniel Masen.” He must have been the relative I didn't know I had. “Nineteen twenty five, Jacob Daniel Masen,” He used the name Jacob?! “nineteen fifty, Edward Brian Masen, nineteen eighty three, Elizabeth Alexis Masen and Anthony Jacob Masen. Two thousand eleven, Jennifer Elizabeth Masen and Carrie Lynn Masen. Two thousand forty seven Edward Jacob Masen. Two thousand sixty seven Anthony Edward Masen,” that was her fathers name, “two thousand ninety seven, Holly Elizabeth Masen.” I sat there stunned. Alice was right. This brilliant little girl was my great-great-great-great-great-great niece . . . of sorts.
Apparently, I had an older brother I didn't know about. But then, maybe it was a coincidence, maybe he happened to have the same last name as I did. Maybe thy happened to use the same names as we did . . . oh come off it Edward, he is your brother and you just didn't know about it. You really do have a niece.
“Edward?” I looked over at Bella. “Do you believe this, Edward?” she asked.
“I guess I do. The evidence is right here in front of me.” I turned my gaze back to her family tree. “The question is, will everyone else believe it, and what are we going to do about it?” Bella was quite next to me. We were both thinking hard.
“Maybe we should talk to Carlisle and Esme about this when they get home. They would know what to do.” she told me. I turned to look at her.
“What would there be to do? Bella, she's related to me. What is there to do about that?” I asked.
“Well, I don't know Edward. She's an orphan, and you're her uncle, so what could you do, oh wait, maybe adopt her.” her tone was sarcastic.
“Bella, we're vampires. We can't adopt a little girl. Besides, what would she think when after about three years of living with us we don't get any older or eat anything? That's not the kind of life for a little girl to live.” I told her.
“Well you would tell her. She wouldn't notice until she turns nine or something. Little kids don't notice things like that, besides, who else does she have?”
“She doesn't have anyone to begin with. Bella, listen to me, if she was to live with us, she would be in constant danger. Do you know how often little kids fall and scrape their knees? That would mean blood.” i reasoned.
“But we can all handle the blood. You, me, Alice, Rose, Emmett, Carlisle, Esme, Jasper, we can all handle the blood Edward.” she paused. “Edward, this might sound crazy, but this may be the only chance we get to have a kid. WE can't reproduce and have a kid, and we can't just adopt a random girl.”
“Oh, but we can adopt a little girl whose great-great-great-great-great-great uncle is still alive and a vampire. Because she won't find that weird like the other little kids would.” I snapped.
“calm down Edward.” she scolded. “You are getting way to worked up over this. I'm just throwing ideas around. I never said we had to, only that it would be nice.” I felt ashamed after she said that. She was right, none of this was written in stone or anything, and I can't blame her for wanting to adopt her. We can't have kids after all.
“I'm sorry Bella. It just all seems so unreal to me.”
“What's so unreal about having a niece? Most people have ancestors. . .just normally their ancestors aren't still alive.” i felt my lips turn up slightly. She reached out and patted my knee. “We'll talk to Carlisle and Esme. Just try to be positive about this okay?” I nodded.
“Sure. Positive is my middle name.”
“Yeah right. But thanks for trying.” she smiled.

I called Carlisle and Esme into the dinning room a few minutes after they got home. Edward was sitting next to me with his laptop and Holly's home page up. Carlisle and Esme sat across from us, looking intently at Edward, than to me, and back to Edward, repeating the process until I spoke, seeing as Edward wasn't going to be the first one.
“Well, er—we have a—uh, question to ask you, well, some of your advice” I started.
“Okay. We're listening.” Esme told us. I looked over at Edward who was just sitting there with his arms crossed over his chest and a neutral look on his face. I looked at him until he looked over at me. He gave a small smile, knowing what I wanted.
“Well, I noticed this little girl at the hospital today, and to make a long story short, she's my great-great-great-great-great-great niece.” Edward told them. Esme's reaction was a “Ooh!” little gasp thing.
“That's wonderful Edward! She was with the orphanage?” she asked. Edward nodded. “That's wonderful! Edward, you have a niece! How wonderful is that?” she exclaimed. Of course, leave it to Esme to react like that. Who could blame her, I didn't. I personally also think it's wonderful, if only Edward would see that to.
“Yes, but we wanted to talk to you about something else.” I told her. Esme turned to look at me, smiling widely.
“Of course, what is it?” she asked. I looked at Edward, asking for permission to say it. He gave a slight nod.
“Well, we, well, mostly I, was wondering if we could possibly adopt her. Now, before you say anything,” i added hastily, “I thought that we could talk to her, get to know her, and then if we think she would like to live with us, we could either tell her what we are before we adopt her, I mean, there's really no risk in telling her because no one at that orphanage would actually believe her if she told them we were vampires, or we could tell her a few years after we adopt her—if we adopt her.” I said it quickly, but I knew they caught it because of their super hearing. Carlisle and Esme exchanged glances, and I knew they were discussing it the way most couples discussed things in front of their kids by using their eyes and body language.
I felt Edward place his cool hand over mine and I laced my fingers with his. Esme and Carlisle had a silent conversation for a few minutes, before turning to us.
“Well, first let us say how wonderful we think it is that you have a niece, Edward.” Carlisle started. “But I have one question,” he paused, looking directly into Edwards eyes. “Do you want this, and are you ready for it?” I turned my head to look at Edward. His face was expressionless, but I knew he was thinking this over. He turned to look at me.
“What do you want Bella?” he asked. “Do you really want me to adopt her?” he asked. I nodded.
“Edward, it would be like having the daughter we never could.” I told him. He turned to look at Carlisle again.
“Can we ask the rest of the family?” he asked. Carlisle nodded, and called their names. In less than two seconds everyone was sitting around the table with us.
“I say yes.” Alice said immediately. Of course she knew what we were talking about, but everyone just looked confused.
“Thank you Alice. But first we should let Edward explain.” Esme told her. “Go ahead Edward.” Edward looked around at everyone, than lastly at me.
I can't believe Bella wants to ask the whole family. Does she really think that what they say will be our verdict? Does she want them to approve, or what? I would rather her choose and not have the family choose for us.
“Well, I'm going to say this bluntly.” I started. “I have a great-great-great-great-great-great niece. She was with the Seattle Orphanage today and Bella and I, mostly Bella, were thinking of adopting her. We wanted to know what you think.” I told them. The table was quiet, and I could hear everyones thoughts.
Edward has a niece? That's not fair! He found a nice wife who was human, and now he was a niece? Why does god hate me so much? Rosalie thought. Niece? Edward? And I can't even tell how he feels about it. Stupid feeling blocker. Jasper thought. I'm gonna be an Aunt! I'm gonna be an Aunt! Alice sang that repeatedly in her head with a smile on her face. Does Bella know her shirt is showing a lot of cleavage? To much cleavage for my sister to show. I growled slightly at Emmett, who looked up at me and grinned. It's true! And I didn't say I liked it. I rolled my eyes. Okay, none of their thoughts really helped at all.
“I still say yes.” Alice said. I looked over at Jasper who shrugged.
“Uh, I don't know. It sounds cool. I mean, none of us have any niece's so, yeah. Go for it.” I then looked at Emmett.
“I'm all for it. It'll be cool to have little mini-you—except the whole gender thing—around the house.” he told me. I nodded. Rosalie was next. I looked at her.
“I don't really have an answer Edward.” she told me. “Yes and no I guess.” that was helpful.
“So, do you believe me now Edward. We should adopt her?” Bella asked me. I looked around the table at everyone one last time.
“One question. Carlisle, Esme, are you okay with it?” I asked.
“I am ecstatic about it Edward. Image what it would be like for you to have her as your daughter. You could be a parent and feel the wonderful experience I feel with you.” her warm motherly smile was on her face.
“Edward, what ever makes you happy makes me happy. I wouldn't mind getting the chance to be a grandfather.” Carlisle told me. I nodded.
The table was quiet for what seemed hours, as I thought this over. I could go talk to her tomorrow and bring Bella. She would be excited to see me, after all I did promise to go see her.
“I'll think about it. Bella and I will go see her tomorrow.” I informed everyone.
“You will adopt her Edward.” Alice said after a few seconds. “I can see it already, and you and her will be very happy.” her voice was fond, and her eyes sparkled.
“Then I think it's settled. We adopt her.” Bella said, smiling at me. She squeezed my hand with hers, before turning back to everyone. “Thanks for your opinions.”
“Any time.” Emmett said. “I love to be of assistance to you.”
