Chapter Seven:

Hide and Seek

Holly had almost talked my ear off by the time we got home. She was really excited about the picnic, and started talking about that for a while, asking what kind of food we would bring, and if we could bring 'chocate' ice cream. Bella chuckled every time she said that. Then she went on to talking about puppies and kittens. I had a feeling that she really wanted one . . .

Now she was talking to Bella about playing dress up, and how she played it at the orphanage, and wanted to know if she could play it here.

“Well, you should talk to Alice about that. She would love to play dress up with you. She used to dress me up and do my make up and hair.” Bella told her.

“Really?” Holly gasped. “i wanna meet Alice!”

“Well, nows your chance because were home.” I told her as we pulled into the driveway. I saw her mouth drop open in the mirror when she saw the house, and her eyes widened. I nudged Bella, who turned around in her seat to look at her. She quickly turned back around and clasped a hand over her mouth, giggling at the little girls reaction.

I pulled up in front of the stone path and turned the car off. Holly immediately began trying un buckle herself from the seat. She grunted as she tried to push down the new, stiff button.

“You get her, I'll get her suit case.” Bella told me.

“I'll get t hem both. You go tell the family were here.” I countered. She smiled.

“okay.” she opened the door and ran into the house. I watched Holly's response, but she didn't seem to notice that Bella practically disappeared right in front of her because she was still struggling with the buckles.

“Edward!” she pleaded desperately. “I can't get out!” I chuckled, smiling warmly at her.

“okay, I'm coming.” I told her, opening my door and flipping my seat forward. I leaned in far enough so I could unclip her buckles. It was easy for me, and I did it with on hand. I wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her out. She pulled her legs up to her stomach so that they didn't get caught when I pulled her out of the door. I hitched her up on my hip and reached in for her bag. When I got it, I closed the door and turned to the house. Holly had a fist full of my coat in one hand, and was looking forward eagerly.

I could hear Bella telling them excitedly that I would be in shortly, and Esme's excited 'ooh!', along with Alice clapping her hands and squealing.

“Are you ready?” I asked Holly. She nodded smiling.

“uh-huh.” I walked up the steps, paused, then opened the door. Suddenly there was a shrill scream and Holly jumped in my arms and stiffened.

“Oh my god Edward!” Alice said, coming forward. “She is so adorable!” Alice stopped in front of me. “Hi, I'm your aunt Alice.” she told her. Holly relaxed against me again and smiled.

“Hi.” she said shyly.

“Why don't you let me introduce her to everyone before you scare her off Alice.” I suggested. Alice raised an eyebrow at me, but backed up. “okay, this kind lady over here, is Esme. She's going to be your grandma.” I told her. Esme smiled warmly at Holly, her eyes shinning.

“I'm very glad to have you in our family.” Esme told her.

“me too.” Holly replied. Esme let out a soft laugh.

“That man over there, is Carlisle. You met his at the hospital, he's going to be your grandpa.”

“It's nice to see you again Holly.” Carlisle said.

“Now, that's Rosalie, and that's her husband Emmett. They are going to be you aunt and uncle.”

“Hey kid.” Emmett said smiling broadly at her.

“Hey person.” she replied. Emmett's eyebrows pulled together for a moment before he stared to laugh.

“She's funny. I think were going to get along great.” he told her. Holly smiled wide at him, laughing a bit her self.

“And those two people are Alice and Jasper. They will be your god parents.” We talked about that last night. Rosalie was a bit disappointed, but agreed that it was right for that role to go to Alice and Jasper.

“we are going to have so much fun!” Alice told her. “If you ever need advice on clothes, you can come to me.” she told her. Holly smiled.

“Bella told me that you would play dress up with me.” Alice's eyes shot over to Bella.

“i love you.” she mouthed to Bella. Bella shrugged.

“do you want to see your room now?” I asked her.

“yeah!” she squealed and wiggled to get down. I put her suit case on the floor then lowered her. She took hold of Bella's hand and pulled her towards the stairs. Bella laughed and led Holly up the stairs to her room. We all followed. Alice kept hoping in her head that she would like the room.

Bella had her hands over Holly's eyes as she walked behind her. She led her into the middle of the room and waited for us to gather in the doorway.

“Are you ready?” she asked.

“Yes!” Holly squealed. Bella took her hands away from Holly's eyes and there was a pause before she squealed and started jumping up and down, flapping her arms by her side like she did yesterday when I went to visit her. She saw the bed and ran over to it, launching herself onto it, giggling madly. She stood up and bounced a few times before collapsing back down, clutching her sides as she struggled for air. Her squeaky giggles continued as she tried to breath. I couldn't help but smile as rolled around on the bed with her hands above her head.

After a few minutes of that, she sat up and looked around. She spotted the small table and ran over to it, sitting down. She picked up one of the books and opened it. She flipped through quickly, looking at the pages before shutting it and looking at me. Her eyes were shinning and the smile on her face was priceless. It's like Esme said, these are the kind of things that make parenting worth doing.

“I love it!” she yelled, jumping up from the table and sprinting into my arms.

“I'm glad. Bella, Alice, and Rosalie also helped.” I told her. She turned to the Rosalie, the closest. She paused, not sure of herself, before wrapping her arms around her waist. Rosalie looked shocked, and awkwardly patted her on the back.

“Thank you aunt Roselie.” (not Rosalie, Roselie). She said.

“You're welcome Holly.” Holly turned to Alice and wrapped her arms around her too, more easily than she had with Rosalie. Alice hugged her back, ecstatic to be accepted by the little girl.

“Thanks aunt Alice!” she grinned. Alice smiled widely.

“You are very welcome Holly.” Holly let go and ran to Bella, lunging into her arms.

“Thanks Bella!”

“Anything for you, sweety.” she replied. “did you want to see your bathroom too?” she asked.

“I have my own bathroom?” her eyes widened and her voice went up. Bella nodded and led her to it. We heard a loud squeal a few seconds after she went into the room. “It's so big!” she yelled. Suddenly, she came barreling out and skidded to a stop in front of me. “i love it i love”

“I'm glad you love it!” I told her.

“its green! And brown!” she told us excitedly as if we didn't know already.

“You told us that was your favorite color, so, there it is!” Bella said as she appeared behind her.

Esme was in the kitchen making dinner for Holly, and the rest of us were sitting in the living room talking and watching tv. Holly was sitting next to me with her blanket on her lap. She had brought it with her from the orphanage. She told us that she had it 'forever'. Bella was sitting on her other side, talking animatedly to Alice about planning her room when we move to Denali. Alice is excited about getting to change her room when she out grows green and brown and little kid stuff.

Emmett was asking Holly questions, like what her favorite game was, and if she liked to play hide and seek.

“I love hide and seek!” she exclaimed. “But we weren't allowed to play it at the orphanage.”

“well, do you want to play now?” he asked. Holly's eyes widened and she nodded. She turned to look at me. She stuck her bottom lip out and said,

“Will you play too?” Jasper, who could feel the pleading come off of her, also said,

“Yeah Edward, play with us.” I thought about it then answered.

“okay. But only if the girls agree to play.”

“Agree to what?” Alice asked.

“Hide and Seek!” Holly told her excitedly.

“But Edward will hear our thoug-”

“Alice, why don't you count first!” I cut her off. Oops, sorry Eddie, I forgot. She thought to me.

“Okay. I'll count to thirty.” she said. Holly squealed as Alice covered her eyes and started counting. Emmett, Jasper, and Rosalie all ran from the room at human speed. I saw Holly grab Bella's hand and pull her up the stairs to hide. I was left in the room. Carlisle chuckled from where he sat. I quickly ran into the kitchen.

“Shhh.” I told Esme. I crouched down in the corner behind the table. I felt very childish, but I guess if it was for Holly then it was worth it.

“Thirty!” I heard Alice yell from the living room. Oh, hide and seek. Esme thought.

Okay, visions. . .anything. . .where are they. Alice thought. She was trying to get a vision to see where we hid, but I guess nothing came to her. Crap. Upstairs. They're all probably up stairs. I heard her run up the stairs, glad I didn't go there . . . wait, why did I even care?

Oh no, she's coming. That was Holly. I wonder if Alice knew where she was. Haha! She walked right by us!! Oh no...I have to sneeze...

Achoo!” I heard it all the way down here, and couldn't help but laugh. Esme's head snapped up.

“What was that?”

“I found you!” Alice's victory cry floated down stairs.

“That's not fair, it was dusty under here.” Holly said. She must have been under Emmett's bed.

“Come on, you can help me find everyone else.”

“I know where Bella is.” Holly stated. Soon there was an,

“Aww man.” And they found Bella. “who else has to be found.

“Emmett, Rosalie, Jasper, and Edward. But I have a plan.” Then they started to whisper, so I couldn't near what they said. Someone was coming down the stairs, but I couldn't tell who it was. It must have been Bella or Alice, because they were blocking there thoughts. However it was, came into the kitchen and went over to Esme.

“Hey Esme.” it was Alice. “Have you seen Edward?” she asked.

“Uh, no. Why, is he missing? Should we send someone out to look for him?” Way to play it cool Esme.

Alice snapped her head around and started walking towrads the table.

“Something about that makes me think you have seen him.” Alice told her. I pulled my legs tight to myself, hoping she wouldn't see me. “Found you Edward!” she cried after a few seconds. I groaned, and stood up. “I knew you were down here somewhere.” she stated.

“yes Alice, I'm sure you did. Now, who do we need to-”

“Found you!” Holly's happy voice rang in my ears.

“no you didn't!” came Emmett's voice. Alice and I ran up the stairs, slowing down before we reached the two. Holly was looking in the hall closet with her hands on her hips.

“Did too, I see you.” she told him.

“Do not.” we walked closer and saw Emmett had his hands over his face. “I can't see you, you can't see me.”

“But I do see you!” Holly insisted.

“Come off it Em, she found you.” I said. Holly jumped and snapped her head around, the smiled.

“Oh fine.” Emmett grumped. I rolled my eyes and moved back so he could get out of the closet. Upstairs, we heard Bella shout,

“Found you Jasper!” then a,

“Crap!” Alice laughed and ran up the stairs. I picked up Holly and ran with her, not fast enough to scare her though. Emmett followed close behind.

Bella was in our room, peeking under the bed where Jasper head was emerging. Holly laughed as Jasper struggled to pull himself out form under the bed.

“I'm starting to think this wasn't a good hiding place.” he huffed after he managed to get his upper body out. We all laughed, but Holly laughed the loudest. Her high shrieky laugh made everyone laugh harder.

“Her laugh is so cute.” Alice said, gasping for air. Holly blushed and stopped laughing. “Oh no, don't stop.” Alice told her, but it was too late. The funniness was gone. Jasper grunted as he managed to pull himself all the way out.

“I'm not hiding there again.” he mumbled. He let out a breath and looked around. “Who's left?” he asked.

“Roselie!” Holly answered. Emmett chuckled at the way Holly pronounced Rosalie. “I'll find her!” Holly volunteered. Holly's dinner is ready Edward. Esme thought to me.

“Sorry Holly,” I told her. “It's time for you to eat.” She gave me a pouty face and clasped her hands behind her back, scuffing the ground with one foot.

“Please?” she begged. I looked at Bella. What was I suppose to do. Let her, tell her no. If I let her this time, would she expect it every time, and if I didn't would she cry, or get mad? Bella shrugged. “Please Edward?” she asked again. I looked to Alice, who had a smile on her face. Haha, she's so cute. Just let her.

“okay. But you have two minutes.” I told her.

“Yay!” she ran out of the room leaving the rest of us abandoned. I looked at Bella. She smiled and came over to me, wrapping her arms around my waist.

“Your such a good daddy.” she cooed. I smiled and placed a kiss on her lips.
