Sam, Embry, Paul, Jared, Jacob, and Quil? Were all standing in front of us. When had Quil changed? I still remembered that day when he told me his concerns about Jacob and Embry, and how “he didn’t want to be next.” Poor Quil. And Jacob, standing there, anguished. We had broken the treaty, and they could kill us because of it. Poor Edward, because he would be who Jacob would concentrate on. I must have hurt him so bad. But, vampire or not, we were still friends, right?

“Jake, let’s talk about this,” I said.

“Right, let’s talk. Let’s talk about how they broke the treaty. Let’s talk about how you are now a monster, and let’s talk about how you want to be a monster. Fun conversation!” He yelled, pained.

“You know that wasn’t what I meant,” I whispered.

“Oh, I do know. So how are you, now that we are worst enemies? What have you been up to, other than becoming a leech?” He asked sarcastically. We glared at each other. Tensions were high. Jasper must have been in awful pain.

“Why?” He whispered.

“Because I love him. Because I want to be with him forever. Because I don’t want him to have to worry constantly about hurting me, or saving me. Because I love him, Jake, can’t you understand that?”

“No,” he said as he turned his back and ran off into the woods.

“Jake!” I screamed, and I started to run after him, until Edward grabbed my arm to stop me.

“We still have problems here, remember?” He whispered. I hated to admit it, but he was right. Jacob was the least of my worries. He, at least, may still have liked me. The rest of the pack I was not on such good terms with. We turned, and at human speed, we walked back. As we walked, though, the remaining members of the pack spread out, until they surrounded us. We were trapped. Every one of us was inside the circle of werewolves, and there was no escaping. I was supposed to spend eternity with Edward, not just a few hours. I stepped closer to him, and he grabbed my waist.

“You broke the treaty,” Sam said, calmly, as usual. “Correction, you deliberately broke the treaty.”

“I wanted it,” I whispered, too softly for a human to hear.

“It doesn’t matter,” screamed Paul, who stepped forward to attack, only to be pulled back by Jared.

“We will leave Forks, and never come back again,” offered Carlisle.

The pack considered it, though Sam’s vote was the only one that mattered.

“You have 2 hours. Get out, and NEVER return,” Sam said, as he and the rest of the pack turned and ran off into the woods, Paul still growling. I turned to Edward, and buried my face in his chest. He kissed my forehead.

“It’ll be okay,” he whispered.

“I hurt him so badly, he’ll never forgive me!” I sobbed. I couldn’t believe what I had done to Jacob. And Charlie. Charlie!

“What does Charlie think?” I asked frantically.

“We died in a car accident two days ago. Alice and Jasper staged our deaths. Carlisle forged our death certificates, and went with Esme to the police station to inform them. I searched everyone’s minds to see precisely what happened. Alice had an all-to-vivid image of my truck, totaled, and Esme had a mental video clips prepared for me.

Esme was “crying” into Carlisle ’s, who was also “crying”, shoulders at the hospital, while he signed our death certificates.

Esme crying into her hands at the police station, Carlisle standing next to her, and Charlie sitting at his desk in front of them.

“What can I help you two with today?” Charlie asked.

“We would like to report two deaths,” said Carlisle , looking distressed.

“Okay,” said Charlie, pulling out a form. “What were the names?”

“Edward Cullen,” Esme gulped, and started sobbing even more than before.

“Oh, wow, I am so sorry!” Charlie responded, not wholeheartedly.

“And Isabella Swan,” finished Carlisle . Charlie looked to be in disbelief then started to cry.

“I hurt him so much,” I whispered as I continued to dry sob into Edward’s chest. He simply rubbed my back. I stopped sobbing, and we all glanced around at each other in an awkward silence.

“We should be going now,” Carlisle said. “The Quilettes only gave us two hours, and we’ve already used one of them.” We all nodded in response, than stepped into the house to finish packing. I grabbed the bag of my favorite things from my human life, and Edward grabbed his CDs. We all then stepped outside, put everything in all the cars, and took off for Alaska. Edward and I took the Aston Martin, Jasper and Alice the Volvo, Emmett the Jeep, Rosalie the M3, and Carlisle and Esme the Mercedes. We drove off into the sunset, and I left behind everything of my human life.
