Alice stood at the door, waiting for my reply. I just stood there with my mouth wide open, unable to comprehend what was happening. She told me that she was coming over, but I didn’t actually think that it would be so soon.
“Bella?” she asked, unsure of what to do. That seemed to break me out of my trance because I jumped on her and started to sob in her shoulder.
“You’re actually here!” I sobbed. She smiled and patted my head.
“Yes, I am,” she said quietly before stepping inside and bringing me over to the couch. She set me down and then seemed to see Laura. She stiffened and looked at her curiously. Laura stood up and walked over to Alice. She held out her hand to shake.
“Hello, I’m Laura. Bella’s psychiatrist,” Laura said.
“I’m Alice,” Alice replied, shaking Laura’s hand. Laura gazed at her watch then and she started to panic.
“Oh! I’m going to be late for my next appointment! Bye, Bella! Call me if you need me!” she yelled before she ran out the door and into her car. Alice looked at me confused.
“What happened when I was gone?” she asked warily. I sighed and decided to tell her everything.
Alice stared at me dumbfounded. Her mouth dropped open and she look at me in horror.
“Bella, what were you thinking?” she asked me incredulous. I dropped my head in shame. “You could of gotten killed!” she yelled at me. I looked at her. She face was consumed in horror. “A werewolf?” she said horror-stricken.
“He wasn’t one at the time,” I said quietly. Alice tried to calm down and sat back in her seat.
“Well, this settles it,” she said definite. I looked at her frightened. She looked at me determined. “I’m getting my brother back here,” she said as she took out her cell phone.
“Alice, what are you doing?” I asked confused. She looked at me like I was crazy.
“What do you think? I’m going to get Edward’s stubborn butt back down here,” she said like that was obvious.
“But he does not want me. Why would he come back?” I asked confused. What could Alice do? But Alice wasn’t listening.
“Edward?…No! I won’t leave you alone!…No!…You know I’m in Forks right?…ED-…Wait!…No! You shove a sock down your throat!…Then come down here and get me!” Alice closed her cell phone and shoved it in her pocket. Then she looked at me. “He’ll be here soon,” she said calmly. I just stared at hr.
“What…happened?” I asked nervous. She just inspected her fingernails.
“Nothing much. He just got angry and threatened to shove a sock down my throat. But you know how possessive Edward is when it comes to you,” she said.
“What do you mean possessive? He left me!” I yelled. “Hoe dare he tell you all what to do about me! It’s my life!” I yelled angrily. If you can call it life…
Alice looked at me shocked.
“Well, you’re his love of his life,” Alice countered.
“Wait, what?” I asked confused. Alice just rolled her eyes.
“You’ll find out when he gets here,” Alice said annoyed. She then walked over to the window and peered out. “I can’t leave you alone here,” she said quietly. “I’ll have to stay with you then.” My heart practically jumped out of my chest. I squealed and ran over to her. Alice smiled largely.
“Leaving didn’t help you at all, did it?” she asked sadly. She shook her head. “Just to teach him a lesson, why don’t you just play hard to get?” she said with a sly grin. I smiled at the idea. To have Edward actually beg for me? Before I could think more about it, Alice picked me up and carried me over to the couch. “Sleep here. I’ll inform Charlie. Okay?” she asked. I nodded. I fell asleep with great anticipation.
I was woken up by a very bright light in my eye. I covered my eyes and tried to look around. Alice was ‘sleeping’ on a chair and ‘woke up’ when she saw me wake.
“Morning, Bella!” she chirped. I smiled and sat up groggily. She jumped up and started to make me breakfast.
“Why are you so…peppy?” I asked curiously. She grinned at me.
“Edward’s going to be here soon!” she said excited. I felt my stomach twist up. She saw my expression. “Remember our plan, okay? Play hard to get,” she said, giggling at the thought of it. I rolled my eyes. I could always count on Alice to cheer me up. She made me pancakes, which I ate readily. She then preceded to drag me up to my room and rummage through my closet. She picked out a pair of my few jeans that didn’t have holes in them and a blue blouse that was hidden in the back of my closet. She thrust the clothes into my arms and demanded that I change. Seeing that I had no choice, I changed quickly. As soon as I was dressed, Alice rushed in again and pushed me into the bathroom and started to fumble around with my hair. By the time she was done, I almost looked pretty. If only I wasn’t deathly pale and if I didn’t have fist sized bags under my eyes. She stepped back and admired her creation. She squealed and dragged me back downstairs right when the doorbell rang.
My heart started to race and I clutched Alice’s arm. She smiled wickedly.
“Remember. Hard to get. We have to teach him a lesson,” she whispered. I groaned.
“Alice, I didn’t see him in seven months. I’m not sure if I can,” I said. “Or if I want to,” I added in. She rolled her eyes.
“Edward has hurt you beyond belief. He deserves to be punished for that,” she said. I groaned and just decided to do what she wanted. She pushed me forward and I answered the door timidly. On the other side was a god.
Edward looked down at me nervously. His face became pained when he saw me. Did I really look that horrible?
“Bella,” he whispered and reached out to touch my shoulder. But I moved out of the way. His face become even more pained. I almost felt guilty, but after what he did to me…he kind of deserved it.
“You can come inside if you want,” I said coldly. He nodded and stepped inside. His face hardened when he saw Alice.
“Hello, Alice,” he said icily. Alice smiled and closed her eyes. He then looked at me. “How…Have you been, Bella?” he asked fearfully. I took a deep breath.
“I’ve been…fine,” I said choking out the last part. I saw Edward look at Alice who was grinning. His eyes widened. She must have been ‘telling’ him what I was doing the past seven months.
“Motorcycles? WEREWOLVES?” he yelled at me. He looked at me angrily. That made me snap. I looked at him frustrated.
“I don’t think my life is any of your concern anymore, Edward Cullen,” I said as cold as I could. His face changed quickly and acquired look of pain and hurt.
“Bella, I-” he whispered.
“No, Edward. You left me here to rot. Do you know what I have been through?” I asked very angry. Edward just stared at me. “I had nightmares every night for the past seven months! I had to turn to a werewolf for help! I had to see a psychiatrist!” I yelled, near tears at that point. I wiped them away quickly. “I have been through living Hell!” I said with my voice shaking. I started to tremble a little. Edward looked away painfully.
“If you want me to leave-” Edward started. That just made me angrier.
“And leave me here alone again? What are you going to take away from my life now? An arm maybe?” I yelled throwing my arms in the air. Edward rubbed his temples.
“Then what do you want?” he yelled back. I looked away from him.
“I don’t know,” I said before I ran up to my room. I flopped on my bed and started to sob. I heard a knock on my door. “Leave me alone,” I said.
“Come in.” Alice walked in the door and shut it softly behind her. He sat down next to me and started to run my back.
“That’s not exactly what I meant by saying ‘Hard to get’,” Alice said jokingly. I chuckled and tried to wipe away my tears.
“I know. But when I saw him…something in me just flared. He just seemed so…sure of himself. And after what I’ve been through because of him, that just wasn’t enough for me,” I said weakly.
“And what did you expect?” Alice asked.
“I don’t know,” I wailed. “He doesn’t even love me! Why should I get so worked up over him if he’s just going to leave again,” I asked to no one in particular.
“You think he’s going to leave again?” Alice asked astounded.
“Of course,” I said. Alice groaned. She got up and ran down the stairs. I buried my head in my blankets. A second later, the door opened again and I didn’t look up to see who it was.
“Bella,” Edward said pained. I stiffened.
“What Edward?” I said tired. He sighed and sat down next to me. I looked at him. I lock of hair fell over my face. Edward reached his hand out, but hesitated and then brought it back to his side. That broke my heart all over again. I looked away from him. “You don’t need to stay here,” I said. “I know you want to leave. Just say what you want and then you can go back to your distractions,” I said, each word breaking my heart further.
“Bella, what are you talking about?” Edward asked confused. I looked at him.
“You don’t love me. You made that clear. You don’t have to stay here. You can go if you want to,” I said a little frustrated. Edward was just looking at me like I was crazy.
“Why would I want to leave you?” he asked. “You think that I don’t love you,” he said sadly.
“You told me that you didn’t,” I said. I wiped away another tear.
“Bella,” Edward said pained. “How can you believe the lie and not the truth! I had to lie! You weren’t going to let go! I love you! I always loved you!” he yelled at me. I just stared at him.
“What?” I asked after a few seconds. Edward started into my eyes intently.
“I love you. I always have. You are the love of my life. With out you I am nothing. These past few months were torture to me!” he said, wiping a tear off my face. I closed my eyes. I wanted to believe him. But I just couldn’t.
“How can I believe you?” I asked slowly. I saw Edward close his eyes and then open them with determination.
“I’m going to prove my love to you, Bella,” he said confident. He then looked unsure. He looked at me quickly. He then did something I would never forget. He leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine. Instantly all my fears were forgotten. It’s as if his kiss told me that he wasn’t lying. It’s as if I was whole again.
I instantly threw myself onto him and wrapped my arms around his neck. He seemed surprised at me and then pulled back quickly. He then laughed loudly and pulled me closer to him.
“How did I survive with out you?” he asked incredulous. I was wondering the same thing.
