Alice POV

Jasper turned and looked at me.

“Alice…”

I turned and walked out of the room, running into Bella’s werewolf buddy. He greeted me, still staring. I wondered what was up with him. Edward walked up behind me and said, “Imprint.”

“WHAT?” I yelled.

“I imprinted. On you.” said the werewolf buddy.

If I was human, I would have fainted. “Okay, so… how is that possible?”

“I’m not sure,” Jacob replied.

“Okay, I get the basics of imprinting, but could you explain it in detail?” I asked.

“Well, basically… ummm…”

I raised an eyebrow. “Spit it out. I’m sure I can take it.”

“It’s like, uh, think of it this way: Basically, nothing matters to me now except your happiness. I’m gonna be following you around, making sure you’re happy.”

I raised the other eyebrow. “Jacob, we both know that’s not the whole of it.”

“Alice…” deep breath. “Alice, I’m in love with you.”

“Oh, Votruli…” I said.

“Well, Alice, it looks like we’re going our separate ways now,” said Jazz.

This confused me. “What are you talking about?”

“Uhm…” Jasper said.

What is with you two and your avoiding me?” I yelled.

Bella bounced up the stairs. “Alice, what are you yelling about?”

Jacob looked at her. “Well, one good thing came out of all of this- no more mooning over Bella for me!” he said cheerily.

“Huh?” asked Bella.

“Well, Bella, it seems as if I’ve imprinted…” Jacob said, “on your girly vamp buddy.”

“WHAT?” Bella did faint, so Edward picked her up and carried her to the bed in his room.

“Okay, Jasper, tell me what is going on, and tell me NOW.” I said, my voice deadly quiet and angry.

“Well, this imprint thingy… I guess it doesn’t just happen to werewolves.”

“Okay… I give up. What are you talking about?” I asked.

“Alice…. There’s a reason I bit Angela. Did you… did you see the part before that?” he asked, his voice getting quieter and quieter.

“No,” I whispered.

“I… I kissed her.”

I slapped him, turned, and walked off, towards Edward and Bella’s room. Bella lay on the bed, and I sat down next to her. Jasper. My Jasper. Who loved me… past tense, I guess. I wished I could cry. Bella stirred, and Edward walked in.

“Alice, I’m so sorry. But Jasper, he really does love her… and he’s not gonna give it up. He can’t, it would kill him. But remember, Bella, Jacob, and I will always be there for you.”

“I don’t want Jacob to be there for me. I want Jazz!” I whispered, and in my thoughts, I yelled it.

Bella sat up. “JACOB! NOT A FUNNY JOKE!” she yelled.

“Bella, it wasn’t a joke,” Edward told her.

“Oh. But… Alice. Alice. Are you okay with this?”

“Not really, but it would appear I have no choice in the matter.”

“I’m sorry. I can tell you this: don’t hate Jacob just because he’s a werewolf. Get to know him, then make your choice between him and Jasper.”

I dry- sobbed. “Jazz doesn’t want me… he ‘imprinted’ on Angela.”

“I really wish I was a vampire right now,” said Bella.

I half- laughed. “Why?”

“So I could beat Jasper up.”

That made me laugh for real. “Bella, most newborn vampires couldn’t take Jasper.”

“Why?” she asked.

“Jasper… had a… military… sort of past.” I replied.

“Oh.”

Bella and I sat there talking about petty subjects for a while, until she fell asleep. I called Charlie and told him that she would be sleeping over, which he was fine with- he always was.

The werewolf was still here. He walked up next to me. “Alice, I know you don’t like me, but I really want to help. Is there anything I can do to help?”

I wanted to say that he could UNimprint on me, but before I could, I had turned toward him and said, “Yes, Jacob, there is. You can give me a big, human bone-crushing hug.”

Which he did. He picked me up gently, wrapped his arms around me, and squeezed me so hard I couldn’t breathe. Which, surprisingly, I was okay with. And I hugged him back. He was so warm.
