I didn’t know why I was standing in front of his house. He would hate me after what I did. I didn’t blame him, though. I did tear out his heart and beat it with a shovel, metaphorically of course. So when he opened the door, I expected the look that was on his face. Hurt, grief, anger…there was a lot of anger.

“What do you want, Bella?” he asked harshly. I flinched at his words even though I prepared myself for them, or at least tried to.

“I want to…talk,” I said simply. Hopefully he would understand. By the look on his face he didn’t.

“I don’t have anything to say to you. You shouldn’t even be here,” he said angrily. He was right. I wasn’t allowed on La Push land anymore…I was a vampire and a Cullen. I was the one thing he hated the most.

“Can I at least say goodbye?” I asked quietly.

“Why? You don’t love me. You don’t even care about me,” he said sadly. How could he say that? After risking my life trying to talk to him!

“What? Jacob! I care about you!” I said pleadingly. Why would he think that I didn’t care about him? Oh yes…I ditched him for his mortal enemy.

“Goodbye, Bella,” he said before he closed the door. But I caught it before it closed all the way.

“No, Jacob. I can’t leave things off like this. You-You are my best friend. I don’t want you to get hurt because of me!” I tried to explain desperately. But I knew the pain I inflicted would stay with him for a very long time. How could I make it right?

“Well, that’s already done. I’m sorry Bella, but I think you hurt me enough,” he said before closing the door before I could stop him. I stood staring at the block of wood before I ran back home, or home at least until that night.
I walked through the door and into Edward’s cold and soothing arms.

“How’d it go?” he asked expectedly. I buried my face in his shoulder.

“Not as good as I had hoped,” I muttered. “He hates me.”

“Then he’s an idiot,” Edward muttered.

“No, I deserved it,” I said through my sobs. Edward just sighed, knowing there would be no reasoning with me.

“Come on, let’s go pack,” Edward finally said. We ran up the stairs and into Edward’s room. We packed in silence until Alice’s screamed for us to hurry up. Edward grabbed his suitcase’s full of clothes and Cds before rushing down stairs. I took a few minutes to look around the room before joining him out side.

We put our things in the back seat and in the trunk of his Volvo before getting in ourselves.

“Are you okay?” Edward asked. I nodded to please him.

As we raced out of town, I silently made a vow to myself. Someday, whether Edward likes it or not, I would come back. I would come back to this small, wet town. I didn’t know why, but it held importance that I couldn’t ignore. Before Forks was out of sight, I said goodbye to my human life…for the time being.
