"Hi, baby, how are you?" I asked my daughter. Her response was a tiny squeal of delight. My son was sleeping so I was spending some time with her. "That’s good. I’m doing okay too," I laughed softly. She was holding my finger again, that seemed to be her safe place. "I love you. Mommy loves you too. I hope she gets better so that she can come see you. You’ll love her." My daughter’s breath started to slow as she fell asleep. I kept my hand in there to comfort her as she slept.

Bella was in surgery right now. After she had crashed, Carlisle thought there was something more wrong with her than just amnesia. Once Bella woke up from the most recent shocking, she had no idea where she was. She had completely blacked out again. My father then decided that it was best for her to get the tests done right away. What he found shocked us all.

Bella had some damage to her hippocampus, which affects her memory and causes her to black out if she gets too worked up. The damage wasn't servere, but she did need surgery to fix it. It was a complicated procedure because it involved the brain of course. I've been worrying the entire time. It's been about one hour since Bella's been rushed into emergency surgery, making it around 1 o'clock in the morning. I haven't slept in what seems like forever, but I knew that without Bella by my side, I wouldn't sleep. So I took a walk in my scrubs down to the NICU and begged Angela to let me see my children. They were about the only things that could calm me at a time like this. After explaining my situation, she finally let me in.

I watched my daughter sleep, then checked on my son. They both looked so peaceful, like they didn't have a care in the world. If only they knew what their mommy was going through. But I knew right now I needed to be there for them, after all, nobody knows what the future will bring us.

"Edward?" Somebody shook me and I groaned, opening my eyes. "Edward, Bella's out of surgery now, you can go back to her room and I'll give you an update quickly," Carlisle told me. I looked around and noticed I had fell asleep in the chair in the NICU. My right hand was still in my daughter's icubator, her tiny hand still wrapped around my finger. Carlisle was standing in front of me, smiling at his grandson.

"Thanks Dad, I'll be in there in a minute," I told him.

"Goodbye, little grandchildren of mine," he cooed before leaving.

"Okay, sweet girl, daddy's got to go check on mommy. I'll come back later," I told my daughter, gently removing my finger from her hand. She just looked at me with those green eyes and I almost melted. I did have enough strength to turn away and look at my son. "Bye buddy, I'll come back to see you, too. I love you guys," I told them.

I noticed Angela in the back corner feeding another baby. "Thanks again, Angela. I really appreciate it," I told her before leaving.

Carlisle was waiting for me in Bella's room, looking exausted. "Edward, I'm going to tell you this quickly so we both can get some rest. The surgery went way better than expected, and I'm positive Bella will recover fully. She will not remember a thing since the accident nor anything that happened before her surgery. You will have to explain to her what happened again, that she was in a car accident, gave birth, ect. The short-term memory loss isn't perminant, and should be gone now. Let me know if there are any problems," he told me. "And get some sleep," he added, then left.

I glanced at the clock and noticed it was a little after three. The surgery took over three hours, and I knew Bella would be out for awhile. So I went over to the couch in her room and tried to get at least a couple hours of sleep.

I woke up around nine when I heard Alice and Jasper enter the room.

"Hey, guys," I stretched, getting up to give Alice a hug. She looked ready to break down seeing Bella with all those wires on her.

"Edward," she whispered. "It's horrible. So horrible. She's got to make it through, she has two kids to take care of, and she can't leave you!" Alice sobbed. I rubbed her back and whispered in her ear, trying to stay strong for her.

"Alice, sis, calm down. Carlisle says she's going to make a full recovery. It just takes awhile to wake up after the surgery. She'll be fine, okay?" She just nodded her head. "Hi, Jasper," I acknowledged him.

"Hey, Edward," he responded, sitting on the couch where I previously lay.

"Will you guys stay here in case Bella wakes up? I need to find food."

"Sure, take your time," Jasper said, comforting a softly crying Alice.

"Thanks. And Alice?" She looked up. "Bella will make a full recovery. I promise," I told her.

I made my way to the cafeteria to grab some toast and apple juice. My stomach couldn't handle much right now. I ate on my way to the NICU, and finished while just staring through the window at my babies.

"You're back again."

I turned slightly to see Angela smiling at me. "Yeah, it distracts me for a little bit," I told her.

"I think it's sweet you care so much."

I shrugged. "They're my babies and I love them."

"Aw, now Bella is a lucky lady," Angela mused.

"Make sure and tell her that when she comes to visit," I grinned. "But really it's me who's lucky."

"I can't wait to meet her. Now finish up and come in here. Your twins are waiting," she said, and went back into the room.

I finished my toast as Angela brought out a pair of scrubs for me to put on. I went to the sink inside the NICU and washed my hands quickly but thoroughly. My twins were wide awake.

I smiled at my son. "Good morning buddy. Are you having a good day?" He let out a little grunt as I patted his belly. I chuckled and took that as a yes. My daughter cried a little at the lack of attention she was getting. "Oh, I'm sorry sweetie, and how are you today?" She squealed and I thought I saw a smile come across her face.

It was amazing how fast they were progressing. If they weren't mine and I wouldn't have known better, I would have never guessed they were born at seven and a half months. The doctors were quite impressed, and thought they would get to go home once their lungs were fully developed and they were about six pounds. My twins still had a bit of trouble breathing on their own, but I knew they would fight through it and get to come home soon.

"So guess what? Mommy's surgery went really well, and she's going to be all better soon. I bet you guys will get to meet her real soon. She's going to love you just as much as I love you."

Oh God, my head. It hurt so bad, yet I couldn't feel a thing. Wow, I must be going insane.

I slowly opened my eyes and found Alice peering down at me, a huge grin on her face.

"Alice?" I mumbled.

"Bella! You're awake!" she squealed.

"Yes, although I don't know why. Did we get drunk last night? I feel like I have the worst hangover," I groaned.

"Um, Bella, your head hurts because you had brain surgery earlier this morning. And no, we didn't get drunk last night, although you might have gotten high on morphine," she added, looking deep in thought.

"Morphine?" Yep, it's official. Alice is insane.

Alice smacked her head. "Oh, golly, I forgot you wouldn't remember anything about last night."

"Jasper, care to explain?" I asked him, seeing as Alice was off in her own little world.

"Sure, Bella." And he started to tell me, but Alice cut him off.

"No, I'll tell her!" And she launched into the tale of last night, while I lay and listen.

Twenty minutes later (you know how Alice likes to elaborate and drag everything out), I'm sure my face was missing its jaw because it was cleary on the floor.

"So that's what happened. But Carlisle says you will make a full recovery and you should be able to go home in about a week if all goes well," she told me happily. "Oh, why do I feel like I'm missing something?" she said, her face scrunching up in concentration.

I instinctively put my hands on my stomach, something that became a habit to me lately, only to find that it was completely flat. "Alice," I slowly said in horror. "Did you by chance forget to mention that I had given birth to my babies last night?!" I practically yelled.

"Oh! That's it!" she grinned.

"Oh, great, the most important thing you just happen to forget. Thanks, Alice," I said sarcastically.

"Well I'm sorry for updating you on your health conditions!" she sighed angrily.

I just had to laugh at the look on her face. "I'm sorry Alice, I appreciate it very much. So how are my babies?"

"I don't know. I haven't seen them yet, only Edward has," she replied.

"Speaking of Edward, where is he?" I asked.

"He went to get some breakfast. I can only assume he stopped to visit the twins," Jasper jumped in.

As soon as Jasper was done, Edward walked into the room in a pair of scrubs.

"Mmm, I cannot wait until you become a doctor and start wearing those scrubs at home," I smiled sexily up at him. His face immediately brightened and he ran over to me.

"Bella! You're awake!"

I laughed. "So I've heard."

"I love you," he grinned, then kissed my lips lightly.

"I love you, too. Where were you?" I asked him.

He looked at Alice hesitantly and she said, "She knows everything."

"I was visiting our babies. Oh, love, they're so perfect," he sighed.

I smiled, then motioned for him to kiss me again. It started out soft, but I deepened it. After all, it had been a whole night since I last kissed him. Too bad it didn't last long.

Edward broke the kiss once my heart monitor went wild and the nurse ran into the room.

"Is everything okay?" she asked, then her eyes landed on me. "Oh, Bella, you're awake!"

I smiled up at Edward, he knew what I was thinking.

"I'll go get Dr. Cullen and he'll check you over," she said, and hurried away to find Carlisle.

"Did anybody else think that sentence she said was a little gross?" I giggled.

"The only person checking you over is me," Edward whispered huskily into my ear. I shivered.

"Well, Bella, nice of you to join us," I heard Carlisle say.

"Glad to be here," I smiled at him.

"I'm just going to examine you quickly," he said.

He was done five minutes later. "You look good, your brain is healing well. I'll have somebody check on you every four hours. Any questions?"

"Just one. When can I see my babies?" I asked sheepishly.
