9. the hospital

I held my breath as I walked into the hospital, as did Rosalie and Edward.

We all had nearly perfect control when with humans but hospitals were always uncomfortable with the blood banks and operations and patients dying. . . I don’t know how Carlisle does it all the time.

“you’ve been very lucky, it looks like your going to be fine.” he said, smiling at her.

“It would have been a whole lot worse if Edward hadn’t been there, he pushed me out of the way.” she explained

Damn it Edward !

“relax Alice, no-one else saw me” whispered Edward, so low only I could hear it.

“we need to tell Carlisle what happened, come on.” he said, and started walking towards a pair of wooden double doors.

We met Carlisle out in the corridor, near the room that Taylor, Bella and chief swan were in.

Edward quickly explained what happened at the school and Carlisle seemed to understand why he did it.

“but the point is, if this exposes us, I will find a way to kill you.” said Rosalie, staring daggers at Edward

“well what was I supposed to do, just let her die!?”

“this isn’t just about you -”I elbowed Rosalie in the ribs to make her stop talking.

I could see Bella standing around the corner. Edward, Carlisle and Rosalie all followed my gaze and saw her standing there.

She hesitated for a moment before directing a question at Edward.

“erm… can I talk to you for a minute?”

“Rosalie, Alice.” said Carlisle, leading us away from Edward and Bella.

Although we would all hear the conversation from the reception, we needed to look like a normal family who would give privacy to a conversation.

“what?” he asked/snapped. smooth Edward I thought, knowing he wouldn’t dare get back at me right now.

“How… how did you get over to me so fast?” she asked, confused.

Just get her confused, make her think she was concussed. Tell her that you were standing next to her or something.

“I was standing right next to you, Bella.”

“no…” my plan was working “you were next to your car… across the lot!”

“your confused” said Edward. “you, err, hit your head.”

“I know what I saw.” she said quietly, looking him in the eye.

Thank goodness he was such a good liar.

“well no-ones going to believe you, so…” great, Edward.

“I wasn’t going to tell anybody.” she said, truthfully. “I just need to know.”

“cant you just thank me and get over it?” he said, trying to change the topic.

“thank you!” she said, as soon as he finished his sentence. It was quite funny, I tried my hardest not to laugh, but a small giggle still escaped my lips.

“your not going to let this go, are you?” he asked.

“no.” was her simple, but meaning-full reply.

“well then. I hope you enjoy disappointment.”

“why did I even bother?” she whispered. It would have been inaudible to a human, but us vampires have extremely good hearing.

“I don’t know.” was his reply.

Crap, Edward ! You weren’t meant to hear that.

And he walked away from her, back towards us.
