5. Running

Rating 3.4/5   Word Count 979   Review this Chapter

Edward’s point of view-

We were 30 minutes away from the school. I don’t think I have ever run this fast before-but I needed to save my angel.

“Shouldn’t we call the others?” Emmett asked as we all ran. By ‘others’ he meant the rest of the family.

“Yes- I already did-but they didn’t answer.” Alice answered for me-she was very frustrated. I already had my cell phone in hand and I was dialing the number with a little ounce of hope that someone-anyone- would answer while we were running; we were still in the middle of nowhere- but each step made us closer to Bella.

“Hello?” To my relief-Rosalie answered the phone.

“Rose. There is an emergency. The Volturi are at the high school. In 30 minutes they will hurt Bella. They probably killed a lot of students and kids and you need to-” she wouldn’t let me finish my sentence.

“Get down there now.” She finished my sentence for me. “yes.” I said.

“I am on my way. Look- I need to tell the rest of the family-they are at the baseball field and all of their cell phones are still at the house- I can’t go there alone or I might get….hurt.” She explained.

“Your right. Wait, why weren’t you with them?” I asked.

“I just did my nails and I was afraid that I might chip one.”

I rolled my eyes, “Go to the baseball field and get them-it shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes.”

“Edward- what’s happening there-don’t worry, I am running right now-I am wasting no time.”

Alice just had another vision- it was of a Volturi member smashing a car into the school-Bella was right in its path. But the vision that she had was of the past. There was a faint glimpse of the clock- it happened five minutes ago. Alice never had a vision of the past-unless it was of great importance.

I looked back at her-she was as confused as I was.

“Edward? Hello, Edward?” I heard Rosalie ask.

“Rosalie- one of the Volturi members smashed a car in the cafeteria. The cafeteria is hardly standing and almost all of the kids are in there- the rest are dead. Alice’s vision just now was of the past-that’s not good.” I said quickly.

I heard her gasp. “My god! Alright I’m hanging up now-it will help me concentrate a little more on running.”

“Goodbye and get there quickly.” I reminded her.

“Got it.” And then she hung up the phone.

“They have a car in the cafeteria?” Emmett asked.

“apparently.” I said.

“I can’t wait to get there and kick some serious Volturi ass!” Emmett said.

Bella’s point of view-

There were screams all around me.

And surprisingly my scream was among them. There was a sharp shooting pain in my arm. My hands and arms were covered in cuts from the car coming through the wall-it was a terrifying sight.

I looked at my arm-there was no doubt that it was broken. When I fell to the floor I must have fell on my arm wrong. I breathed in deeply-it would all be over soon.

I shook my head-I have to stop thinking like that-maybe, just maybe, Edward could have figured out what I was trying to say to him. But there was such a small amount of hope for that possibility-and it just got smaller.

“Those are not normal people out there-something’s different!” I heard a kid yell. If only they all knew….

“Maybe its bears.” Someone said- I snorted at that. Everyone was in what was left of the cafeteria. The car took out a whole wall and many students-nobodies dead-yet.

“no-it can’t be bears.” Somebody answered my thoughts.

“It’s like their immortal or something.”

I wanted to scream to them that they were all vampires-to tell them that they don’t stand a chance-but I couldn’t.

“Bella-your arm doesn’t look so good.” Mike said-all of us were shaking with fear, yet we still tried our bests not to show it.

“yeah-it’s broken, but I’m alright though.” I said. I was sitting on the ground out of my crouching position, and I was holding my arm. I really wasn’t so alright-the pain was increasing with every passing second. But all of us might be dead anyway-it’s not my biggest problem.

“Bella, your arm is broken. We should have somebody look at it.” He said. I wanted to say that it would soon be over and it wasn’t worth it.

“Mike-I’m fine. Really.”

“At least let me help you up.” He extended his hand. I took it and stood to my feet. “thanks.” He nodded.

I looked away from him to the group of students, the same students whose conversation I listened to.

“Well-I don’t know about you-but I’m running.” One kid said. They all agreed. This was what I was afraid of.

They don’t know that the cafeteria is the only thing keeping them alive a little bit longer. They were all walking towards the exit.

The time was ticking and I didn’t know what I should do. Maybe now is the time to tell them who is really doing this. And what was really doing this. If I told them that it was the Volturi and that they were vampires-they would listen to me-wouldn’t they?

What should I say, should I tell them what I know and tell them that there is nothing that they can do, that they can’t run or hide? But then that would risk the exposure of the Cullen’s, and that would make the Volturi act faster.

What should I do?

I start panicking- I could Risk it-which comes with sever possibilities, or be quite and try to save myself-which also comes with pain and risk as well.

I look at them once more. “WAIT!” I yell to them-they all turn around.
