5. Chapter 5:Score One For Bella

Rating 5/5   Word Count 996   Review this Chapter

Two weeks passed slowly. Awfully slowly. I hadn’t made any friends, yet. I was…distracted.

But not by…him. It was by five kids at school who had the exact same eyes as…him. Yet, there was no resemblance.

To sum it up, life sucked without my savior. Two weeks and one more to go. I missed his gold hair no longer gleamed in the light, and I couldn’t hear his bell chime laugh.

Until this morning.

I was starting the day like any other day. I struggled to get my long-sleeved shirt on, my cast preventing me to do that. I shoved a breakfast bar down my throat and stepped out to my car. My ugly, loud car.

I was going to get gas. My car guzzled it like there was no tomorrow. I drove to my favorite gas station. It was the only gas station with gas cheap enough that I could buy a full tank with.

I spotted a familiar black Mercedes. It was far too familiar. Flashbacks of my savior hit my head like an atomic bomb.

I stepped out of my roaring vehicle and approached the car. He wasn’t there. But a pale white hand flashed out of nowhere to my shoulder to turn me around.

I breathed a sigh of relief at his face. “Fancy meeting you here!” I greeted him.

“Bella?” My savior asked incredibly.

“That’s definitely me.” I joked.

“I didn’t think I would see you for another…week.” He choked out.

“I didn’t think I would see you for another week either.” I snapped. I had spent two weeks groveling over this man and here he was insulting me.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean it that way.” He instantly apologized.

I sighed, I couldn’t be mad at him for long, it was far too hard.

“So”, I began.

“What brings you here at 7:15 in the morning?” I asked nosily.

He grumbled something before running his hands through his amazing hair.

“Things have been a little…tense at home. My, well…my wife and I are fighting. It’s complicated.”

I hadn’t been expecting that. I mean, I hadn’t been expecting him to tell me that. I figured he would have a wife. It had hurt to have that realization.

“I’m sorry.” I mumbled.

He gleamed a smile in my direction and spoke, “It’s not your fault.” But he said it with a slight reluctance, like it was my fault.

“It was nice to see you.” I smiled back at him.

“As it was to see you.” He smiled. I could tell the conversation was becoming uneasy, and I wanted to leave.

“I’ll see you in a week!” I climbed back in the car, without filling it up. But I didn’t care now.

“I’ll be there!” He called loudly.

My truck started with a roar and I drove slowly and carefully to the school. I wanted to get the truth from these Cullens, and I would do it by befriending them. No matter how alienated they were from the rest of the school.

The school I approached was plain and simple, like everyday. The silver Volvo was in sight. I needed to talk to them, just once. It was early, and I would probably have my chance.

I walked silently through the halls, my eyes searching for the inhumanly beautiful kids. It was one of the girls. She was short with black spiky hair.

I approached and I smiled in her direction. Needless to say she was shocked.

I stuck out my hand. I had no idea how to be…friendly. She only stared at it, as if she were petrified in that position. Her eyes glazed over and she stared at nothing.

She shook out of her trance and she was smiling brightly. “I’m Alice Cullen. I believe you’ve met my father.”

So he did have kids, the only problem was that she looked nothing like him.

“I’m adopted.” She corrected.

I smiled, relieved that he didn’t have any real kids. He didn’t look old enough to be able to have any either.

“Oops, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Bella. Bella Swan.”

“So you’re the famous Bella Swan?” She asked with a smile.

“Have you heard my name before?”

“Only a few times.” She said sarcastically. I really liked this Alice girl.

“Do we have any classes together?” I asked abruptly.

She scrunched her perfect nose in thought, “I haven’t seen you around except at lunch, so I don’t think so. Speaking of lunch, do you want to sit with us?” Alice asked abruptly.

Although I was sad about not having Alice in any of my classes, I would love to sit with her at lunch.

“Yeah, I’d totally love to.” I responded quickly.

“Great. And then, this weekend, do you want to come over? We can go shopping. There’s a new place in Seattle and it looks awesome!” She was talking way too fast. I couldn’t really understand her gibberish.

“Come again?” I asked sarcastically, attempting to mimic her perfect voice.

“Sorry”, she said as she shook her head, “Whenever I get really excited, I talk really fast. Just, you’re the only person who has had enough guts to even talk to me.” She said sadly.

“Oh.” I squeaked.

“Will I see you at lunch?” I asked, trying my very best to get away from tough subjects.

“Oh yeah! And I think you have a class with Edward. He’s my other adopted brother. Biology?” She asked questioningly, mainly to herself rather than me.

“Yeah. I’ll see you at lunch! Save a spot for me!”

“You can count on it Bella!” Alice called after me.

Score one for Bella.
