A Not-So-Every-Day Romance

I originally wrote this for the Odd Ship Challenge, but since Kaiwynn said we could post it... Jake has recently become my favorite character, and I began this story before that happened. Angela has always been my faovrite one of Bella's normal friends, so it was only natural that I put them together, especially since I couldn't bear to separate any of the real couples. Angela discovers the truth about the Cullens, and about the guy she's in love with. Could it really be true? And what happens when she finds out that Bella wants to be a vampire? Can she come to terms with everything and keep the people who have come to mean so much to her, or will their relationships crumble to dust? There is a sequel now posted: A Pretty Strange Love Story. Look it up!

I was amazed at how I could just forget that Jake was a werewolf. He seemed so normal, and so totally in love with me. As a wolf, he was scary, but I could handle it, and I hoped that in time, I could get used to it. After dinner, he drove me home. Then, for some inexplicable reason, he tensed. “Jake? What’s the matter?” I was worried. I had never seen him act like this. When I looked up at the porch, I saw Bella and Edward sitting on the ancient swing. “Hey! What’s up?” Edward grabbed Bella protectively, and pulled her behind him. Then, to my dismay and confusion, Jacob did the same to me! “Edward Cullen! Behave! Jacob is not going to hurt me! Let go!” Bella sounded really angry. “Jake? What are you doing? Let go, you’re hurting my arm!” He let go, and I walked towards Bella. “What’s going on, and why are they acting like this?” “They’re enemies. They always act like this when they’re too close.” Bella said grimly. I was confused. “They didn’t act like this last night!” “I guess that’s because they had a common enemy, which we might again. Which brings me to why we’re here.” She turned towards Jacob. “We need your help.” “With what?” Jake asked menacingly. Edward growled in response to his tone. Bella admonished him with a look, and turned back to Jake. “When I went to Italy, I had to stop Edward from angering the Volturi. The Volturi are an ancient coven of vampires who are also the strongest vampires in existence. To get them to let us go, though, Alice had to promise them that I would become a vampire.” Jacob started shaking as she said the last sentence. He obviously didn’t want this to happen. Why not? Bella wanted to live with Edward forever, and I thought that was sweet. If I could become a werewolf, I would, just so I could understand Jacob better. Why was Jake so against Bella being happy? “Edward and I finally reached an agreement for that, but that means I won’t be changed until after graduation in a month. The Volturi are coming to check now. That means we either have to break our agreement, or fight them. Edward would rather fight them. So we came to ask for help.” Bella was really worried, I could see it in her eyes. Jake obviously saw it too. “I’ll talk to Sam. How long do we have?” “Alice said three days.” “Then I’ll get back to you tomorrow.” Bella nodded. “Thank you.” “Bella, do you want to spend the night again? We could finish watching Interview with a Vampire, and watch the rest of the Princess Diaries.” I really wanted to talk to her. She flashed me a smile. “No thanks. I’ve been away from Edward way too much, and I miss him. Don’t tell him that though. His ego’s big enough.” Edward snorted, and acted hurt. “My ego has shrunk considerably since you.” “It’s barely noticeable. But trust me, I’m doing you a favor. You were conceited. Bye Angela.” With one last grin at me, she hopped onto Edward’s back, and they were gone. The next day, I kept praying that Jacob would call. When the phone finally rang, I jumped and ran to answer it. “Hello?” Please be Jacob, please, please. “Hey. I got kicked out of the pow wow, so I was wondering if I could come over. I’m so nervous that Edward will decide to let the Volturi have him instead, and I know that this is your first waiting game. We could hold each other together.” Bella’s voice replied. “Ok, sure. Please come over, I don’t know what to do.” Bella arrived a few minutes later, soaking wet. “I hate rain, I hate rain,” She mumbled under her breath. We sat down on the coach facing each other. “So what did you mean you got kicked out? Aren’t they determining your fate?” Bella made a face. “That’s what I said, but Edward got in that protective mood of his, and said he didn’t want me around when there were going to be vampires and werewolves in the same room.” “Are they going to fight?” I all but screamed, terrified for Jake. I had seen Emmett slash open a woman’s neck with his teeth. “They won’t. I made Edward promise.” Then I broached the subject that I really wanted to know. “Why do you want be a vampire?” Bella looked at me; surprised. ”Well, I want to be with Edward forever. I know about the blood drinking, and the losing all of my human family, but I think it’s worth it to be with him for all of eternity.” “I don’t understand how you can want that. Drinking blood, not sleeping, and not being able to go out in the sun. It doesn’t make sense.” Bella frowned speculatively. “If you had to deal with something to be with Jacob, would you? Something you would never have thought of before, something disgusting, like, oh, I don’t know, die, would you?” I thought about it. Would I? It didn’t take me long to realize that the answer was yes, and then I understood exactly why Bella wanted Edward to change her. He was her everything, as Jacob was mine. The phone chose that minute to ring. “Hello?” “Angela, this is Edward. Would you please put Bella on the phone?” His voice suggested he didn’t want me to, but some one was forcing him to talk to Bella. I handed the phone to her saying, “It’s Edward.” “What’s wrong?” She asked as soon as the phone was to her ear. “What?” She gasped excitedly. “They agreed? Oh, that’s so great. I know you don’t think so now, but you will. When is this going to happen? Tonight? Oh my God. Ok, I’ll see you then. I love you.” She hung up the phone and told me the news. “They decided the only way to save us all is to change me!” She squealed excitedly. “Edward’s going to do it tonight.” As I hugged her, I realized that nothing would ever be the same again.
