A Not-So-Every-Day Romance

I originally wrote this for the Odd Ship Challenge, but since Kaiwynn said we could post it... Jake has recently become my favorite character, and I began this story before that happened. Angela has always been my faovrite one of Bella's normal friends, so it was only natural that I put them together, especially since I couldn't bear to separate any of the real couples. Angela discovers the truth about the Cullens, and about the guy she's in love with. Could it really be true? And what happens when she finds out that Bella wants to be a vampire? Can she come to terms with everything and keep the people who have come to mean so much to her, or will their relationships crumble to dust? There is a sequel now posted: A Pretty Strange Love Story. Look it up!

Angela POV

The next day at school was, well, the best way to describe it was strange. Luckily, I didn’t have any classes with Jessica until after lunch.

I don’t think I could have stood being around her or Lauren until I had calmed down. I was really quiet all day, and I’m embarrassed to say that most of my day was thinking about Jacob. About the sadness in his honey eyes, about the heat of his body, about his husky voice, and his toned dark body. Perfect in every way.

At lunch, I really didn’t want to sit with the usual crowd, the one that included Jessica, Lauren, and Mike. I told Bella this and she agreed, so we sat at the opposite side of the cafeteria. Soon after we sat down, Edward and his sister Alice joined us. “

Thank God. I really didn’t want to sit with those obnoxious girls any more.” Alice was clearly relieved that we were sitting somewhere else today.

“You’re the only nice one in that crowd Angela.” I smiled.

Alice was the least scary of her entire family. I remembered the rest of her siblings from last year, and they were terrifying.

Emmett was huge, and looked like he would rather hit you than talk.

Alice’s boyfriend, Jasper, just exuded something dangerous.

Emmett’s girlfriend was beautiful, and vain. She really was mean.

Edward acted kind, but there was something about him that scared me. I couldn’t explain it. Alice had that ability too, but her boisterous personality offset it.

I had the next class with Jessica. I didn’t want to talk to her, and I definitely didn’t want to sit next to her, but we had assigned seats. I got there early; knowing Jessica wouldn’t come in until after the warning bell rang. I took my seat and waited for class to start.

It was even worse than I had anticipated. I had expected her to be sorry, and for her to try to apologize all period. She acted like nothing had happened. She took her seat, and immediately started jabbering on about Mike!

As I stared at her in disbelief, the teacher started class. I managed to ignore her all period, but after class, she followed me to gym.

“Is something wrong, Angela?” she dared to ask.

“You’re acting really strange.”

I had had enough.

“Strange? I guess you aren’t used to seeing me angry then. You left Bella and me in the middle of Port Angeles! We had to beg a ride of off people I didn’t even know! Did you really think I would just forget about that?” She stared at me, speechless, for the moment. I took this opportunity to run over and hide behind Ben. I became a team with him, and avoided Jessica the rest of the day.

I ran to my locker after class, and grabbed my coat so I could catch the bus. I normally rode with Jessica, but needless to say, I wasn’t going to today! I was running towards the bus when some one grabbed my arm. It was Bella.

“Do you want a ride? I know you usually ride with Jess, and Edward said he’d drop you off.” I smiled at her gratefully. “Thank you so much!”

She led me to Edward’s shiny Volvo. Edward and Alice were already there, leaning against the car.

“Thanks for the ride.” I told him after he pulled up at my house.

“Sure.” Edward replied, not even glancing at me.

Bella shot an exasperated look at him, and turned to me.

“Sorry about him. I don’t know what his problem is. See you tomorrow.”

When I went inside, the phone was ringing off of the hook. I picked it up, and when the voice on the other end replied, I nearly dropped it again.

Jacob’s POV

I called Bella the next afternoon. Charlie answered the phone, and sounded really happy to hear that it was me.

“Bella? Sure Jake, hang on.” I heard him walk into the living room, and yell Bella’s name.

“Coming!” I heard her reply.

“Hello?” her breathless voice said into the mouthpiece.

“Hey Bella. It’s me.”

“Jake? Oh, I’m so glad you called!” She sounded genuinely happy to hear from me.

“I just called to ask you if you had Angela’s phone number.”

“That’s great! She really likes you! But she’s afraid that you didn’t like her.” Her tone got more serious.

“Jake, I know I’m going to sound like a hypocrite, but, would she be safe if she went out with you?” She hurried on before I could reply.

“I know that you would never hurt anyone on purpose, but, Angela is one of my best friends, and I have to ask…” She trailed off, obviously confused by my silence.

“I controlled myself around your bloodsucker friends, didn’t I? And Angela doesn’t seem like the type of person to deliberately make you angry. Is she?”

“No, of course not! Angela is the nicest person I have ever met. Hang on and I’ll go look up her number.”

She set the phone down. In a minute she was back.

“Here it is. 345-6217.”

“Thanks. I guess I’ll see you later.”

“Jake, I…” I hung up the phone. I wasn’t ready to have this conversation with her yet.

I called Angela the next day after school. The phone rang for a long time before she finally picked up.

“Angela?” Silence.

“Hello? Anyone there?”

“Uhh. Yeah. This is she.”

“This is Jacob.”

“Oh, hey! How are you?”

“Fine. I was calling, because well, I was wondering, if maybe you’d like to go see a movie or something? This Friday?”

Silence, again.

“Yeah! Sure. I’d love to. Wait. What movie? If I have to sit through another movie like the one we saw on Saturday, I may go insane.”

“It wasn’t very good, was it? No, they changed movies on Sunday. Now the Ghost Rider is playing.”

“Well, I’d love to go. What time?”

“Around six? I’ll pick you up. Where do you live?”

“I’m terrible at giving directions. Wait, how about you pick me up at Bella’s? I can call her and make sure it’s ok and everything.”

Now it was my turn to be silent.

“Jacob? Are you still there?”

“Yeah. Ok, call Bella, and I’ll see you Friday.”

“Ok, I’ll call back if she’s busy.”

“Do you need my number?”

“No, I have caller ID.”

“Alright. Bye.”

It was all set up, and she had said yes. Now all I had to cope with was seeing Bella on the night of our date. I could handle that. I would handle that.
