Chapter Three: A Strange Feeling

I was able to hear every word Jacob was saying to calm Renee, from outside. Jake’s attempts to calm her, were not really working. It was hilarious.

“Look Renee, I already told you everything is fine. Now, you have to calm down or we’re not going to go anywhere with this. If Bella hears you like this, and you know how she is, she will get hysteric like you. That will lead to you getting more hysterical, and it will become an endless circle.” Jacob explained exhausted and frustrated by the conversation.

His attempts were so pathetic. He was going around Renee’s questions in order to not say anything he was not allowed to say…. poor of him.

“…no Renee, the girl who answered is just a very close friend of Bella and Edward who is watching the house. I’m not really sure where Bella is, but I swear I’ll tell her to call you the moment she walks through the door. Anyways, I’m making company to their visitor until they come back.” He sighed.

I heard the voice of Renee start to calm down a little and she whispered something to Jacob that I was burly able to catch.

“Jacob….I really miss her. E-mails are really not enough for my heart to be complete.”

There was a silence that seem to last forever, until I faintly heard Renee crying softly on the phone. This was bad…

“I know exactly how you fill Renee. I myself haven’t seen them or heard of them in 5 years! This distance has been for our own good. Please trust in me, and majorly in Bella’s and Edward’s decision to stay away from everyone. Believe me; things are not easy in the world they are living in. I am here against they’re authorization, because in a weird way I’m very close to the person you just talked to right now, and I was dying to see her. I don’t know how Bella is going to take all of this, but what I am sure of….is that Bella will do something, I swear, I will tell her how worried you are and how much you miss her. I have the feeling you will see her soon.” Jacob’s voice sounded like he had gained 25 more years with the conversation. He reassured Renee again about everything and tried to leave her calm enough for Bella to deal with later, then hanged up on her.

I really underestimated Jacob’s large heart. There was no wrong intension in it.

After 10 whole minutes passed and Jacob didn’t come out; I decided to go in again. As I entered slowly to the house, I saw him sitting in the floor next to the phone, which was still in his palm. He looked really sad, and I understood him. He probably felt sorry for the lady. I did too. I have never met Renee; not counting the pictures that I had seen in my mom’s room and purse. Still, my heart had the feeling of pettiness for both me and my grandma, who had been brutally shot off from her daughter’s life.

Suddenly I felt an extreme anxiety to meet her. I knew how much my mom loved her and missed her, by how she talked of her. It was not fair for my grandma to suffer like this. If Grandpa Charlie was allowed to know at least part of the truth…why shouldn’t she? I would make sure to talk to my parents of the situation, if it was the last thing I did.

I walked in a graceful, silent way toward Jacob and sat Indian style, right in front of him, not bothering to even close the door. I took the phone away from his hand and put it back. I hugged him and he hugged me back for what seemed like a very long time. I completely understood why he felt the way he did for someone he burly knew. He was relating this to our separation. I kissed Jacob in the forehead, as if he was the little kid instead of me, and put my both palms on his face.

I love you Jake. I told him through my special way. I knew he needed that.

He put his forehead against mine and very softly whispered, “I love you too Nessie…and I’m sorry.”

I looked at him in confusion. “For what, Jake?” I whispered back and in the same instance realized what he meant. “You’re apologizing to me for being sensitive? No…don’t ever do that. We will never be separate again, and we will help Renee if my parents don’t do anything. Do you understand? She deserves it, just like Charlie did.”

He nodded. “Is it too late to go see what you promised me?” He said smiling guiltily.

“Of course not, unless….you’re a slow poke and I have to carry you over there so we could be on time.” I said with a mocking smile.

He glared at me, and then smiled sweetly. “Oh sweetie, I don’t want to humiliate you or make you feel like a loser. So, I am going to make you ride on my back. That way you get to feel what real speed is like.”

“If that makes you feel like a winner, go ahead, Jake,” I smiled, knowing that I had hit a nerve, but he continued smiling. We went outside, and I turned around while he stripped of his clothes and faced into his wolf form. In the same instance, he grabbed my shirt with his mouth and threw me into his back without giving me time to protest.

We ran up the mountains in high speeds, I felt so happy to be sharing this place with Jake. I showed him the way and we soon arrived at our destination. Every time that I see this place I know that I am looking at just a little piece of heaven. It was an exceedingly stunning place. Even though we were not very high up the mountain, it was high enough to see the whole panoramic view of the forest just as I saw it through my room window.

As we entered the small meadow that had become my special place, Jake squatted down his huge figure, to his knees, letting me slide off of him.

I landed perfectly on my two legs without a single wobble.

Jake barked a wolfy laugh, and I turned around to look at him curiously, wondering what in the world did he find funny.

It was probably one of his sarcastic, not so funny jokes, that he uses to crack himself up, which only worked on him. “What?!” I squealed offended.

My reaction just made him laugh louder. His easily addictive happiness caught up to me and I started laughing for no reason at all. See… that’s exactly what I liked about Jake. He always knew how to liven up the moment, especially if it involved making me happy.

I was finally able to calm myself down, and we were both lying in the floor exhausted by our out of the moment laughter attack. “Now that your finished being a ridiculous child, are you going to tell me what made you laugh in the first place?”

He stared down on me, his eyes still full of moister from laughing so hard.

I sat up, crossed my arms and stared back at him, with a pretended seriousness.

His huge mouth opened into a gargantuan smile that could have lightened up an entire city if it depended on it, and he let out his tongue in a playful manner.

My seriousness broke and I chuckled softly.

He groaned, rolled his eyes, and stock off into the branches where I couldn’t see him anymore.

I lifted and eyebrow and stared after him.

In a second Jake came out of the forest in his human form, wearing only the pants he had tide to his leg before he faced into a wolf. The bare, russet colored skin of his chest looked lighter under the moonlight. I silently let in a breath, stunned at the way my heart started beating with stunning speed. I was surprised and embarrassed at my sudden unconscious reaction, to seeing him shirtless.

It’s not as if I hadn’t seen him like this before. Of course, the last time I had seen him shirtless, was when I was about 3 or 4 years old, physically at least…..

Which ever way it was…I shouldn’t be looking at my best friend in that way, so lustful. I quickly averted my eyes, and started looking at the beautiful full moon instead; fervently hoping he hadn’t noticed my weird reaction.

At least he pretended he hadn’t noticed anything and lay down on his stomach beside me looking at the moon silently. He turned his face to me.

I sat up again and tried really hard to look into his eyes and not at his perfect bare chest. “I’m still waiting for your explanation for laughing at me, and for grunting just right now. If you expect me to hang out with a wolf when I didn’t inherit the mindreading from my father, then you better get used to telling me what each gesture or grunt you make means.” I said stubbornly, still concentrating carefully on his face.

He looked at me and laughed quietly. “You’re not going to let this one go. Are you? I mean, please, I don’t even remember why I started laughing at first.”

“You want me to refresh your memory? I slid off your back and you started laughing like the weirdo you are.” I said grudgingly.

“Ok, fine, but it’s nothing important. I just laughed, because of the way you landed, that’s all.”

“What was so funny about that?!”

“NOTHING! It’s just that I….found it funny how different you are from your mom, and how, thank God, you didn’t inherit her bad equilibrium. You landed like a cat, so agile and perfect. Happy?!”

I frowned, but dismissed his answer, and decided to torture him more with my stubbornness. “And the groan? What was that for?” I insisted.

“Oh, please Renesmee. How am I supposed to remember every single moan and sound I make when I’m a wolf? Why don’t you just make a list of all of my reactions and the second I did them, and handed to me when I’m back into my human form?!” He replied sarcastically, still lying on the ground.

“Yeah…I think I should, because every single sound you make in human or dog form has a double meaning to you.”

“What a pity that the only thing you inherited from Bella was the stubbornness.” He murmured under his breath.

I opened my mouth ready to protest for his insult, but I decided otherwise and let it go too. “Are you going to tell me…for….what…reason….you groaned…when I….laughed…right…before you went…of…to face…into human?” I said, slowly pronouncing each word as if he had trouble understanding me.

He rolled his eyes and let out a breath. “Oh that time…be more specific when you want to know something, honey. Don’t forget to give me the exact second it happened.” He said sweetly.

I scowled at him, but said nothing, waiting for his answer.

“Ugh! I groaned, because I hate so much how you always sound so much like your bloodsucking dad. You laughed exactly how he laughs…content?” He said, immediately knowing that he had made a mistake by saying it the way he did. “I..I..I'm sorry Nessie, I didn’t mean it that way; old habits die hard. I meant to say that I would have wanted you to be a little bit more like Bella, except for the stubbornness, of course. Which is what you got…funny huh?” He said nudging me in the arm, trying to make me laugh, but I hated when either my dad or him insulted each other.

Jacob stood up and walked to the nearest bush that was full of flowers. He yanked one of the big pretty violets from the bush and walked back slowly to me. He offered his hand to me so I could stand up.

I quickly pondered his action and decided to accept his hand. Without looking up, I put my hand into his, and he carefully pulled me up into my feet, as if i needed the support.

Jake put his finger under my chin and pulled my head up; forcing me to look at him. He looked deeply into my eyes, his expression full of concentration; probably deciding on how to apologize correctly. He handed me the violet and I gently took it. “A little bird told me they are your favorite.” He murmured softly.

I had to smile at that, and thanked him in an effort for him forget everything.

Jacob slightly smiled, but didn’t say anything. He got both of my hands and cupped them into his, with the violet still in the middle of them. He slowly pulled me closer to him, and placed our hands in his chest.

His skin was very warm and cozy, and I suddenly felt so safe and happy; wishing we could stay like this for ever.

He continued looking at me, but this time scrutinizing what my reaction to his next move would be.

I smiled at him in reassurance to whatever he was going to say, but he did not speak.

Instead, he slowly leaned down and pulled me even closer to his scorching body, till I had no more space to breath. Our faces were exceedingly close, that I could feel his warm, sweet breath on my face, and the radiating heat coming from his body. Under my hands I felt his heart start to accelerate at the same moment that mine did; he felt it too, but he did not care. Jake lifted me off the floor, in an effort to be at my level, closed his eyes, and carefully closed the little distance left between us, crushing his lips to mine.

“Violets under the midnight moon; how lovely.” He whispered before he continued softly kissing me.
