Finally, Alice and Jasper entered the rink. Of course, they were as graceful (if not more) as normal. However, they did not show off like Emmett and Rosalie. Everyone got into a line behind Bella, and they helped Edward. He fell down a lot. By the time they were done skating, he was covered in white ice flakes. While they were there, some of Bella’s human “friends” showed up.
Jessica entered the rink. “Hey Bel-LA!” falling over, she was covered in almost as much ice as Edward.
Emmett laughed. “Eddy, she’s almost less graceful than you!” he called towards his brother.
Jessica, blushing, stood with the help of the railing. “Hi Edward,” she said, batting her eyelashes.
Edward, instantly annoyed, skated over to Bella (without falling) and kissed her. Jessica looked away and didn’t talk to Edward anymore.
Next was Mike, who, like Jessica, slipped as soon as he was on the rink. Emmett and Rosalie were showing off again to their fresh audience, while Alice and Jasper just skated together, holding hands. Angela and Ben were also there. They, like Alice and Jasper, were good skaters, but chose not to show off, instead choosing to race. Then it started to rain, and Edward decided that Bella should go home before she got sick. Instead of just the two of them going home, Angela and Ben came over, too, and had hot chocolate at Bella’s house.
“So, Bella, Emmett and Rosalie are pretty good skaters,” Angela commented.
Bella nodded. “Yeah, I think they took private skating lessons a while back. Of course, those two are good at everything.”
Angela and Ben laughed, as did Edward.
“So how did you learn to skate, Bella?” Ben asked.
“Well, my mom has, like, these mini-fetishes, one where she was obsessed with shuffleboard, classical music, et cetera. One she had was with skating- so, naturally, I went along with it and humored her.”
Again, everyone laughed.
“No offence, Bella, but who would’ve thought you could be graceful?” Angela laughed.
Bella laughed lightly. “Oh, don’t worry, Emmett comments on it all the time- he makes total fun of me. It’s mortifying, but I don’t mind that much. If it was someone other than me, I would laugh, too,” she turned to Edward. “You’re not allowed to tell him that, okay?”
“If you say so, love.”
Bella blushed at the public display of affection. Angela laughed, too, now, and Ben looked away, embarrassed for Bella.
Angela said, “Well, we probably should go, we were going to watch a movie.”
“Okay, that’s fine, have fun!” Bella said, and they left. “They’re so cute,” she told Edward.
He smiled. “Yes, they are. Ben is thinking about proposing to Angela,” he said, slyly looking at Bella.
“Oh, how sweet! She’ll be so happy!”
“So your friend can get married, but you can’t? Why not, Bella? We love each other, that’s all that matters, right?”
Bella rolled her eyes, it was a much repeated argument. “I’ll think about it, okay?”
“That’s all I’m asking.”
“You really should take skating lessons. You’re terribly clumsy on the ice,” she laughed at the pun.
Edward chuckled, too. “So you think I’m some sort of beverage?” he asked in mock offence.
Bella laughed. “Edward, joke, okay?”
He smiled. “I know, I know.”
