Bella POV

I felt like killing him: wrapping my hands around his neck and squeezing. I hate him. All the trust that he built up these past weeks was shattered in that one moment; in that one decision.

After Maddy and Masen were in bed, I joined Jake out on the porch.

"How's your arm," I asked.

"Fine. It doesn't hurt a bit."

"I'm so sorry he did that, Jake."

"Don't apologize for him. You didn't do anything wrong."

"I know. I just don't know what I'm going to do now."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm going to have to rearrange my summer schedule, find a new sitter and figure out my work schedule. I just can't believe he did that."

"Those are things you can worry about tomorrow. Right now, lets just talk about you and me."

"What about you and me," I asked with a small smile.

"Well, we've known each other for while, right?'

"I want to tell you something, but I don't want to scare you off," Jake said.

"Just say it."

"You and the kids were really the only thing that I thought of while doing my training, aside from worrying about my dad. There's something about you, Bells, that I can't get enough of. When I'm not with you, I'm thinking about you. I know we haven't really said what our relationship is, but I need to know if you feel the same way about me. It's okay if you don't. I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to get in a relationship after what's happened with you and Edward, but I just need to know. Do you have any feelings for me?"

"Of course I do, Jake. I think about you all the time too. I look at you and my kids and I'm happy. I love how you love them."

"They're not the only ones I love, Bella," Jake said placing a hand on my face.

"I love you, Bella. You don't have to say it back if it's too early for you. I understand. I just needed to say it."

"Jake, I'm not sure if what I feel for you is love, but it's like nothing I've ever felt before. Not even with Edward."

"It's okay. Like I said, I just needed to say it. I've been wanting to say it since before I left."

"Why didn't you?"

"Scared, I guess. Just know one thing, Bells. I'm not going anywhere without a fight. I've been holding back for a while now because I wasn't sure what the deal was between the two of you, but when he pushed me through that window with Maddy, he crossed the line. It could have been so much worse."

"I know. His jealousy of you is out of control. I guess I didn't realize how bad it was until tonight. He scared me, Jake."

Jake put his arms around me.

"I'm sure he scared quite a few people tonight. But it's over. You have nothing to be scared about. I'm here."

A few days later I went back to the Cullen House. My mind was still reeling with everything that happened. I was in Maddy and Masen's room grabbing some of their clothes when everyone but Carlisle and Edward walked in.

"How's Jake," Alice asked.

"Fine. He only needed a few stitches."

"And Maddy," Emmett asked.

"She's fine too."

"What about you," Esme asked. I looked at Jasper and Emmett then back at Esme. "Boys, why don't you give us some privacy."

"Sure," Jasper said.

Once they left, I started sobbing. Esme wrapped her arms around and waited until I was done before she or anyone else spoke.

"I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me just now."

"I'm sure it's anxiety, dear. Is there anything I can do to help you?"

"I'm meeting with the Registar at school tomorrow. Could you possibly watch Maddy and Masen for me?"

"Of course.

"What are you meeting with the Registar for?"

"I need to see if there is room for Maddy and Masen in child care, or I need to rearrange my schedule."

"Why," Rose asked.

"Because I'm too afraid of what will happen if Edward is here."

"Nothing will happen. Carlisle is holding a family meeting tonight when he gets home. You should be here."

Carlisle's POV

I was nervous. I knew the rules I would be putting in place Edward would hate. But something needed to be done. I cannot allow him to do any further harm to my precious grandchildren. They were the two most precious things to me next to Esme and my children. They were the innocent ones here. I knew Bella was protecting them as much as she could, but I felt now was the time for me to step in. Clearly Edward was having a hard time not only with being a father, but with Bella's new relationship. I guess it wasn't exactly new, as they've been dating for just under a year, but still. He was having issues and it was affecting the entire family. Something needed to be done...soon.

I walked into the dining room and found my family sitting there, waiting for me. Edward and Bells sat as far away from each other as they could.

"Thank you all for coming," I started. "I wanted this meeting to discuss some things."

"What things," Rose asked.

"One, when the twins are over, they are not to be left with Edward. One of us will be with them at all times."

"That's hardly fair," Edward said. "How am I supposed to prove to Bella that I'm a good father if I can't have them?"

"Even the best parents need a little help now and then, son. Two, Edward will be attending anger management classes and volunteering his time. I've already spoken to the director of the battered women's shelter and she's expecting you on Monday."

"How long will I have to be there?"

"Until you get the point that what you've been doing is not okay."

"Three, you will either get a job or you will take at least two classes at the community college. You're not going to just sit around all day."

"Fine," Edward said.

"Excuse me," Esme said. "You will show your father some respect. I know you don't like these rules, but you don't need to have that attitude, mister."

"Sorry," Edward mumbled.

"Carlisle, may I add something," Bella asked.

"I appreciate the rules you're putting in place, but I need to add one myself. With Charlie and Rebecca getting married in a few short weeks Jake has agreed to help me with Maddy and Masen. That means he may be stopping over to pick them up for me. I need to know that nothing will happen when he's here."

Everyone looks at Edward.

"I don't him anywhere near my children. He's not their father, I am."

"Some father you are," Rose said under her breath.

"Too bad, Edward. He's going to be around a lot more than he used to be."

"Why's that," Edward asked.

Bella didn't answer. I could tell she wanted to say something, but was holding back a bit.

"It doesn't matter why, Edward. The point is, when he's here, maybe you need to go to a different room or something," I said. "I don't want a repeat of what happened on Friday."

"Why is everyone so accepting of him," Edward asked.

"Because he's a good person, bro. He treats her the way she deserves to be treated and he's very good with Maddy and Masen," Emmett said.

"If the two of you get to impose rules, then I want one saying he can't be alone with them either!"

"Too bad! If things between Jake and I keep going like they are, it won't be long until..."

Bella stopped herself. I could tell something happened between her and Jake and wanted to say something, but it wasn't my place. Esme, Rose and Alice all got look on their face, and I knew they were thinking the same thing I was.

"Look, I will do what I can with my schedule, but I can't promise that there will be days when I need him to pick them up for me."

Sensing that he wasn't going to win this argument, Edward nodded his head. This went better than I had expected. I thought for sure there would have been arguments about each rule I had, but maybe Edward finally realized what a jerk he's been. Maybe these past few days in solitude in his room worked. Whatever it was, I'm glad he was able to control his terrible temper, and I could tell Bella appreciated it as well.
