Bella POV

"I know you did," Alice said hugging me. "We all did."

"Am I a bad person for saying that? I love your brother, but I also loved him."

"No, you're not a bad person. And no one else thinks that you are."

I heard my car door open and felt Edward's arms replace Alice's. He lifted me out of the car and brought me inside. I didn't look to see who else was up. He was wearing my favorite shirt: a grey long sleeve tee shirt with dark blue jeans. And he smelt sinfully delicious. Edward kicked the door closed behind us and sat on his couch. I could feel myself on the verge of loosing it again. Edward must have felt it too, because he tightened his grip around me. Eventually, though, I started calming down and drifted off in his arms.

--

I awoke in Edward's bed, alone, but I heard his voice on the monitor for the twins' nursery. I got up and found Edward rocking Maddy. It was still early, roughly seven, and usually the twins slept until eight or so.

"Look," he said softly, "there's Mommy."

Maddy smiled, but didn't want to come to me. I could tell she was still sleepy. I left the two of them and went downstairs. I was a bit woozy from the medications, so I decided to make some toast. I found Emmett, Esme and Alice in the kitchen.

"Bella, I am so sorry about the radio,-"

"It's okay. I would have heard it eventually," I said.

"What's with the cast?"

"I have to have surgery to fix my wrist."

Emmett slammed a fist onto the counter top and looked out the window. Anger was clearly written across his face.

"Emmett," Esme said.

"Sorry, but I'm just so mad!"

"Don't be," I said.

"Bells, you're practically my sister, which means I'm going to be protective over you, like I am with Alice. I'm just angry that he hurt you; that he decided to get in that car when he was drunk; and I really hate the fact that because of his actions, you now have to have surgery to repair it!"

"Emmett, my wrist was an accident."

"It wasn't an accident! You were begging him to let go of you and yet he didn't!"

"What do you want me to say, Emmett," I asked.

"I want you to say you're angry with him!"

"I can't do that."

"Why?"

"Because he's dead, that's why! He's dead because of me! He was drinking because of me! If I would have made my mind up before Charlie's wedding, he'd still be alive! But I couldn't help it! I wasn't completely sure who I wanted and because of that, I made him drink!"

"You didn't pour his drinks! You didn't hot wire that car and drive crazy down the road!"

“Emmett, calm down," Esme said. "Bella dear, what happened was a tragedy,-"

"Which I will have to live with for the rest of my life!"

"Honey, it wasn't your fault," Esme said calmly.

"Yes it is! Jake was right. I am a tease. I kept them hanging on and on, making each of them think it was them that I wanted. I didn't deserve Jake and Edward doesn't deserve me!"

Emmett walked over and threw his arms around me.

"You're wrong, Bella. It was Jacob that didn't deserve you. He didn't listen when you asked him to stop; he refused to wait for the cab. As bad as Edward has been, what Jacob did is by far worse, I think."

"But what I did is just as bad."

"How is that bad," Emmett asked.

"I led them on. Maybe if I hadn't gone away; maybe if I had just kept my mouth shut, he'd still be here."

"Bella, you had to what you had to do. No one blames you for anything and you shouldn't blame yourself either. It was his decision."

I knew he was right, but I still felt horrible. I didn't want Edward to see me cry anymore, because I think it upset him. I knew he would be upset when he found out about my wrist, too. Once I was calm again, Esme made breakfast for everyone.

Around noon, there was a knock at the door. Jasper answered and returned to the living room with Charlie. Edward and I had been playing with the twins on the floor. It was the only thing that made me forget about Jake.

"Bella," Charlie said.

I looked up and saw him standing there.

"Dad, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be,-"

"I know," he said.

He was uncomfortable and upset, I could tell. Edward and Jasper took the kids into the kitchen to make lunch, giving us some privacy.

"How's Rebecca," I asked.

"She's upset, but alright."

"How are you?"

"Angry."

"Yeah, me too."

I sat with Charlie for a while, talking about everything that had happened; about our engagement and about my decision. For whatever reason, it was easy to talk to Charlie about this. Maybe it's because he actually sat and listened, rather than judging. He said I had made the right choice and that he's seen quite a change in Edward recently. He also agreed that I would need to take this new relationship with Edward very very slowly.

"I talked to Embry, one of Jake's friends on the reservation. He said that Jake's sister, Rachel, is on her way back."

Rachel and I met after Billy had passed. Though we didn't talk a whole lot, I got the impression that she liked me. I just wondered what she would think now?
