Have you guys seen Bella?"

"She went to get us some water, but that was a while ago," Lauren said.

Carlisle joined me as we walked towards the house, but ran over to Esme, who was talking with a few of her girlfriends. When I got to the sliding glass door on the porch I was horrified.

"CARLISLE ! " I screamed.

I tore open the glass door and ran to Bella. She was lying at the foot of the stairs, water spilled around her.

"Bella! Bella, speak to me, please!" I cried as I took her into my arms.

Carlisle, Emmett, Alice and Renee came running in. Bella started shaking uncontrollably in my arms causing Alice to run out of the room and Renee to scream.

"Lay her on the floor and hold her head still. Renee, call an ambulance," Carlisle said.

"Carlisle, what's going on?"

"She's having a seizure."

"A WHAT!" Esme cried as she walked in.

"The paramedics are on their way, Carlisle," Renee said as she threw her cell phone on the floor.

"What happened?" Carlisle asked.

"Lauren said she came in to get some water and I found her like this."

"Oh my God," Angela said.

I looked over and saw the majority of our friends standing by the glass door, looking on in horror.

"Emmett, draw the curtains and go outside," Carlisle said.

After what seemed like an hour, the paramedics arrived. I stood next to Esme, who was sobbing into my chest. Alice had a hold of one of my hands and was squeezing it. None of knew what to do and felt so helpless. When the EMT's wheeled Bella out on the stretcher, I noticed that no one had left. Our friends stood there in horror, as they watched Bella being driven away. I couldn't move. I couldn't think.

When we got to the hospital Carlisle was waiting for us. He had ridden in the ambulance with Bella.

"How is she, Carlisle," Renee asked.

"I don't know. They won't tell me anything."

A few minutes passed, then Dr. Watters, Bella's physician, came out.

"Diane, how is she," Carlisle asked.

"Not good. She's had two small seizures since she's arrived and we're not sure why. It could be from the fall, or it could be from the pregnancy."

"What do you mean?"

"At yesterday's appointment, she was diagnosed with Pregnancy Induced Hypertension; basically, her blood pressure is too high and this can happen. Given the circumstances, we're bringing her to the OR and delivering the babies."

"It's too early! She's only 30 weeks!"

"I know. But we have too. If something happened in her brain, we can't do anything while she's still pregnant. And if the seizures are caused by the pregnancy, we could loose all three of them. It's a tough decision, I know, but really, this is what's best. After they're born, they'll be transported, with Bella, to the Women and Children's Hospital in Seattle. They have a more advanced NICU than we do."

"Can we see her?"

"I can only bring one person back with me."

"Then it needs to be Edward," Charlie said.

Dr. Waters led me back through the double doors and to a small window that looked into the operating room. The sight of Bella was frightening. She was strapped down to the bed with tubes coming out of her. There were several doctors and nurses rushing around the room. I was glad Bella wasn't awake to see it, as the sight of everything going on around her would scare her. It then that I realized how close I am to loosing not just Bella and the babies, but my life and my sole purpose for living.

Carlisle's POV

We all stood there as Edward left us. None of us could speak or think. I could hear Renee quietly crying behind me. I wanted to pull rank as the chief of surgery and go back there, but for the first time in my life, I was afraid. I didn't know what to expect and I wouldn't really know what to do anyway.

Some of Bella's friends arrived and sat with us. Angela, Bella's best friend aside from Alice, was crying, as was Jessica. A good half hour passed before any news came. We all held our breath as Edward and Dr. Watters waked towards us. Edward was visibly shaking and carried two Polaroid pictures in his hand. His eyes were puffy and full of tears.

"...remember, slow deep breaths," we heard Dr. Waters say.

"How are they," Phil asked.

"Small, but they're stable."

"And Bella," I asked,

Dr. Watters sighed, and Edward sat in the chair next to me.

"She made it through the surgery, but to be on the safe side, we're still going to transport her."

"Are you alright, Edward," Esme asked.

"He became a little lightheaded, but he'll be fine."

"So, what did she have," Rosalie quietly asked.

Edward wiped his eyes and cleared his throat before he spoke, his voice was still shaky.

"She..she had..." that was all Edward could get out before he broke out into a sob.

"She had a little boy and girl," Dr. Watters said. "I've called ahead to the hospital and they're expecting all of you. Edward will need to go with the babies and get them registered. My suggestion is that's where all of you go, as Bella will be undergoing a series of tests and there's nothing you can really do for her."

"Thank you, Diane, for everything," I said. I sat next to Edward, and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"They're so small, Dad. So small," Edward cried.

Never in all the years that Edward was with us, had he called me Dad. I knew he was suffering and that there was nothing I could do or say to help him and it broke my heart.
