I was in agony. It felt like my insides were burning. I tried to force the pain away but it didn’t work. Something stirred in my memory. Another instance of pain, when Alice had bitten me, turning me into what I was. The fire raged on.

*******

I opened my eyes. The bright lights of my room hurt my eyes. I had a strange metallic taste in my mouth. I heard faint noises in the hall, heightened by my senses, and the hurt my head.

“Morning sleepy head” even the quiet voice hurt. I sat up and saw Alec in the corner.

“What time is it?”

“It’s just past ten in the morning. You’ve been screaming for about twenty-four hours. Which isn’t surprising, considering” he got up and moved over to me.

“You’re taller then you were when I last saw you”

“I thought the vampire thing stopped me growing,” I said, wincing at the noise. He noticed. Of course he did, annoying vampires!

“What is it?”

“I’ve got a headache. And my mouth tastes funny and the bright lights hurt my eyes”

“Sounds like you’ve got a hangover,” said a voice. I looked over to see a tall, dark vampire that I didn’t recognize.

“I’m Bailey. To me, it sounds like you have a hangover. Headache, dislike of bright lights, funny taste in your mouth”

“Thank you Bailey. Go away. Go, torture some girl” Bailey smirked, then left.

“You’re thirsty,” he observed.

“Why do you say that?”

“Your eyes are black”

“I’m not attacking a human” since I had met the Cullen’s I was loathed to destroy more human life then I had before.

“Aro said he wanted to see you before you were allowed to leave” Alec said as I got up.

“I don’t care, I’m going hunting”

“You weren’t like this when I knew you”

“Things change. I grew up after you left me in the woods. I do what I like, unless I like the person asking me to do something”

“You used to like me”

“Like I said, things change” he looked hurt but I didn’t care. I didn’t know what I had been like before they had abandoned me, but here and now, I did what I pleased. Screw Aro! I stormed out but walked straight into Felix with Aro, and two other men. One I recognized as Marcus.

“Where are you going?”

“Hunting. Then I’m going home” their milky eyes looked at me. I ignored them and glared at Felix. He may have looked after me, but he had abandoned me.

“The venom seems to have had no effect on you”

“I’ve got a hangover. Can you be quiet?” I asked.

“Well, a hangover effect. Now, Cadyna, would you prefer A positive or B negative for breakfast? Assuming, that is what you eat”

“I have to drink blood every week, unless I eat raw meat. Then it takes a month. And, thanks for the offer, but I think I’ll catch my breakfast on the way home” the man I didn’t know stopped me.

“I’m afraid, we can’t let you go anywhere” I broke free of his restraining grip. Alec came out from my room, and he and Felix looked concerned for my safety.

“Jane?” Aro said lazily. She appeared and smiled at me. I was ready.
