Edward came in, with the girl draped over him.

“Oh hi Bella” he said stiffly.

“Edward” I acknowledged, “I don’t think I asked your name,” I said to the girl politely, as if I didn’t know how horrible she was. She smiled.

“I’m Anya,” she said.

“Nice to meet you” I said. I had my back to Emmett but I hoped he wasn’t glaring. That would show her that we had broken in. I wasn’t sure if we had got through to Esme or not.

“Well, Rosalie. Can you show me that CD you were talking about? Clair de Lune wasn’t it?”

“Yep, definitely”

Edward’s eyes narrowed slightly. Maybe Rosalie hadn’t reacted quickly enough. Maybe she was blocking him.

“Don’t you have that CD, Edward?”

“Do you mind if I borrow it?” I asked.

“Yes” Rosalie scowled at him.

“Come on Bella. I can see when we’re not wanted” she practically dragged me up the stairs, back to her room.

“What do we do now?” she asked.

“I don’t know. Our plan for Esme doesn’t seem to be working”

“At least we got Emmett back” she seemed pleased about that. He burst into the room.

“So, what’s the plan?”

“We need to get Esme next, or Carlisle. The two strongest holds are Edward and Alice”

“Why not try Jasper? He’d be very useful. We just need to find a key memory”

“The time we were stuck together in Phoenix?” I suggested. We thought hard but couldn’t really think of any good memories.

“What is we’re looking at this the wrong way? What if, it’s locked in by a key word? Like hypnosis!”

“We never thought of that. Now all we have to do is work out the key word for everyone” Rosalie said sarcastically.

“I have an idea!” I said before running downstairs and outside. Rosalie was already there.

“What is it?”

“Under my floorboards is something that Jasper gave me”

“Jasper gave you something?” she said, incredulously.

“Yes! I’m going home to get it! Tell Esme I forgot something” I jumped in Rosalie’s car (I noticed that she scowled) and sped off. I reached my house and shoved my hidden treasures into a bag before returning. I went straight to Rosalie’s room and emptied my hoard. My dress that I had worn to Prom, neatly folded, a mood ring from Jasper (ironic, I know), Edward’s CD, and various other piece that reminded me of them. I explained each thing, leaving out Rosalie’s item.

“Where’s mine?” she asked. I pointed to a beautifully crafted, small empty pot.

“How does that signify me?”

“Beautiful, hard and shallow” she glared.

“Anyway, Jasper said that his parent’s gave him the mood ring. He gave it to me because he said that after what I’d been through I would feel empty. This would help me know what I was feeling,” I explained. I put it on and headed downstairs with Rosalie. Emmett went to challenge Jasper to a game, to get him into the living room. We watched as Jasper and Emmett battled it out. Then Emmett handed the remote to me and it slipped from my fingers. Jasper and I both reached for the remote. He got it first and handed it to me. I let my hand linger on his, just long enough for him to recognize the ring.

“What’s that?”
