Chapter 10: Getting Him Back

The get-Jake-back-plan went horribly wrong. Why? Because of my clumsiness, of course. The plan was simple. Why did I have to ruin it?

All I had to do was walk up to Jake, hand him the triple chocolate cake, and tell him that I still wanted to be best friends.

But No! I had to trip over something, and send the cake flying through the air, making it land straight in Jake’s face.

“You should watch where you going little Bella.” James mocked.

I stood to face James. Before I knew it, his friends where standing beside him laughing at what had happened.

“You did this!” I shouted, pointing at James, “You did this on purpose!”

He chuckled, and said, “Well, maybe if you just looked were you going you wouldn’t have tripped over my foot!”

I looked straight into his blood-red eyes that used to frighten me, but with my anger I couldn’t care less. I took a few steps forward and said, “You, purposely put your foot in my way so I would trip! Guess what?” He crooked an eyebrow, and looked at me expectantly. Pointing at him, I continued to say, “This is the last time you will ever do that to me again!”

“Bella, I don’t think this is a good Idea.” Jasper whispered. I didn’t even know he was standing next to me.

“And what are you going to do about it Bella? Please tell us.” James chuckled once more, and I just couldn’t take it.

I cannot take that he purposely made me fall. I cannot take that he ruined my plan to get Jakey back. I cannot take him bulling me anymore. This is the last straw. He must pay! I told myself.

Before I knew what I was even going to do next, I growled like a mad little kitten, and kicked him as hard as I could.

“Ouch!”

Of course this hurt me more than it hurt him. Of course I forgot that he was a vampire, and that kicking him was useless. At least I got the satisfaction of not letting get away with what he had done, and of course, I got my point across. At least, I hope I did.

Now I am sitting at the reading area with my right leg on top of one of the plushy chairs. Yup, the plan went totally wrong, and now I had no chance on getting Jake back.

“Hey Bella,” I turned to see who it was, and to my surprise it was Jake. He still had some of the cake on his face and shirt.

“Hey Jake,” I sighed, knowing he would be mad at me. I have been a terrible friend to him. What kind of friend would trip and drop a cake on her best friend’s face?

“How is your leg doing?” He asked in almost a whisper. He was swinging one of his legs back and forth, holding his hands behind his back. His head hung down, and I wondered why he looked so sad.

“It still hurts a little, but not that much.” I lied. I had to put my tough Bella look, even though the pain was still killing me.

He walked over, and sat on the a chair next to me.

“Jak--” I started, but he interrupted me.

“Bells you really didn’t have to do that.”

“But--”

“I mean, really? What were you thinking, Bells? That dude is dangerous and he could have seriously hurt you. If it wasn’t for--”

“Jake, he deserved that, and I can take care of myself.” Before he said anything, I added, “ I just wanted to give you your favorite cake, and tell you that I missed being your friend, and if you preferred Adrie before me it was okay, and--”

“Bells, you know you will always be my friend. I wouldn’t trade you for anything…not even triple chocolate cake, which, by the way, was very tasty.” He chuckled, and I joined in.

I sighed happily, knowing that Jake was never really mad at me or preferred anyone over me was nice, but I still wondered why he started talking to her. I mean, she was very nice and all, but the only girls he really hung out with was me, sometimes his older sister Rachel, and Leah. Other than that, he never liked hanging around girls.

“Hey Jake?”

“Yeah?”

“I’m glad you’re not mad at me.”

He shook his head and hugged me. “Why would I be mad at my best friend?”

When he pulled away he started chuckling. What was so funny? “What?” I asked.

“Nothing.” He shrugged, still chuckling.

We talked some more. He told me he liked Adrie, and that I should definitely get to know her better, which I agreed to. If she meant that much to him, what else could I do? Jake hugged me.

“Bella!” Alice screamed, covering her mouth with her tiny hands, a terrified look on her face.

“What?” I really had no idea why she was so shocked.

She pointed at me, and I looked down to see that my baby blue shirt was covered with chocolate. I looked up at Jake, and heard him snicker. I had forgotten that Jake was still covered in chocolate from earlier.

“Jake!” Oh, he is so lucky I can’t run right now.
