Ava lay in my arms cooing softly up at me. She was now about 5 months old and she loved to make noise. Her vampire qualities were coming out now. She was inhumanly beautiful, had white skin and purple circles under her eyes, and the worst: she was inhumanly fast. But she didn’t drink blood. She ate normal human food.
Edward sat in the chair beside me exhausted, but for the first time today relaxed. Ava had finally decided to stop crying, she didn’t need her diaper changed, and she wasn’t hungry. This type of thing only happened at night. Having a child could be so hard sometimes.
You rarely have time to yourself. Ava always seemed to need something. And changing the diapers was torture. But no matter how hard she could be Ava was the joy of our lives. There were no words to describe how much we loved her.
“Do you think it’s time for Ava’s bed time now?” Edward asked interrupting my thoughts. I nodded and smiled at him. This was one of our favorite times of the day. Where we could be alone… I walked up the stairs, placed Ava in her crib, careful not to wake her.
And then went back down to meet Edward. I sighed happily as he pulled me toward him and placed me on his lap. The fired crackled softly as he kissed me. My hands twisted in his hair holding him to me and then I kissed him back. His kisses were no longer brushes against my lip or filled with restraint.
They were now full of passion and his devoted love to me. He held me to his chest as we both tired to catch up with our breath. “I love you.” He whispered. “Me too,” I said. Then he lifted my head (no longer having to worry about me being breakable) and kissed me again.
But in the middle of the kiss he suddenly went rigid, like he used to do when I was human, it scared me. He then lifted me up and placed me on the ground, ignoring my shocked look and frantic questions. He simply just grabbed my hand and started up the stairs at full speed.
“What…” I started to ask. But my question had already been answered for me. Victoria stood by Ava’s crib holding, the still sound asleep, Ava. My hand flew to my mouth and I stifled a scream.
Her face was turned up in a wicked smile, her bright red hair, looking as menacing as ever. And she was singing a lullaby to Ava to keep her asleep. But that wasn’t even the worst part.
She was surrounded by eight Emmett sized vampires. “This is just too good.” She cackled. “I didn’t think that it was possible to make both of you suffer the way that I did but I guess I can.”
She cackled again and her red eyes glinted. “What a cute little baby. You too are just so stupid.” She spat. “I never imagined I could get you back this good.” She laughed again as Edward and I just stared horrified at her and the vampires.
There was nothing we could do. There was no way out of this one. The hyperventilation started for me and I felt Edward squeeze my hand in a lost attempt to comfort me.
