Midnight Twilight: Edward's Story

Summary:
I figure since no one knows when/if the amazing Mrs. Stephenie Meyer will finish and publish, Midnight Sun: Edward's Story, that it would be a good idea to write my own version of it. EPOV

Notes:
I own none of the characters. Midnight Sun has not yet been finished or published so any similarities between this story and that one are merely coincadental. EPOV

3. Phenomenon (Through Edward's Eyes)

Rating 5/5   Word Count 3124   Review this Chapter

I was actually only waiting for Alice to meet me at my car, the rest of the family decided to ride in Rosalie’s red Mercedes today. Alice, was my favorite one to be around, sure she was annoying, but we were both freaks among freaks, we had to stick together. I finally saw her pixie like form practically running towards me. Why is she running, is she that desperate escape the prison known as high school today? I tried to pick up on her thoughts but, she was reciting math equations in her head, which is what she did when she didn’t want me to know something that she saw. When she finally reached the car she had a huge smile across her face as she ran to me wrapping her pale thin arms around me, almost knocking me down.

“What are you so happy about?” I asked

“I saw how it went with Bella today, you don’t have to go to Alaska, you can stay!”

I laughed as she removed her arms from around me, and climbed into the passenger side.

“Of course I’m staying,“ I said with a smirk as I started the engine and headed home, “you didn’t think I could leave and break up the Edward and Alice freak show (our own little joke) did you?”

“Speak for yourself.” she giggled.

“So you obviously saw Bella and I today.”

“Yep.”

“How much did you see?”

“Nope, I’m not telling, you’ll have to find out for yourself.”

Just then she started reciting the math equations again, she definitely saw something involving Bella and I that she didn’t want me to know about. We were now pulling into the long drive way.

“Ok,” I said, “Go ahead, don’t tell me. I’m sure you’ll slip in think about it eventually.”

“Not a chance.” she said with a smile as she got out of the car.

I’m really glade I wasn’t leaving, I really would have missed Alice. She was the only one who really understood me, and I was the only one who really understood her. I made my way to the front door and opened it. Before I could register anything I was nearly knocked down again, this time by Esme wrapping her motherly arms around me.

“I guess Alice already told you I was staying.” I laughed as I hugged my mother, or the closest thing I had to one.

“Oh Edward, I’m so glade your staying.” she said.

I smiled as she took her arms from around me,

“Yeah, I was stronger then I thought, I guess Carlisle was right”

Just then I saw Carlisle walk into the room and put his arm around Esme.

“I knew you could do it, son.” he said with a smile

“Yeah, but I still had to hold my breath though.”

“As long as your able to control the thirst and stay, I don’t care.” Esem stated with immense excitement. All I could do was smile, they were both so proud of me.

“Well, I better go start on my home work.” I said and headed up to my room.

As I sat in my room writing my report that was due the nest day, I heard a knock at my door.

“Come in, Alice.” I called as she opened the door and took a seat on the other end of the sofa. “So what’s up?” I asked

“Nothing, I just wanted to ask you something.”

“What?”

“What’s Bella like?”

“What do you mean?” Why was she so interested in Bella, what did she see?

“You know, was she nice, was she smart, that kind of stuff.”

“Uh… yeah she was nice, and smart, a little strange, but smart none the less. She told me she moved here because her mom remarried, and the guy travels a lot, and she wanted to make her mom happy, but now she’s unhappy.”

A frown peeked across Alice’s face, “That doesn’t seem fair.” she stated

“That’s what I said.”

Just then she started reciting the math equations again.

“Ok Alice, seriously, what did you see with Bella? If something bad is gone to happen to her, like me killing her, you have to tell me.”

“No way I’m not telling you,” she said with a slight smile, “Besides if you were gone to kill her I would have told you. I promise it’s nothing bad.”

“Well if it’s nothing bad than just tell me.”

“Alright fine,” she said, “I can’t believe you cant figure this one out on your own. You think your so smart, but when the obvious is right in front of you your completely oblivious to it.”

“Are you gone to tell me or not.”

“Think about it Edward, why are you so protective of her?”

“I don’t know, Alice.”

She rolled her eyes, “It’s because you like her.” she whispered

“What!” I exclaimed

“Think about it Edward.” she said in a amused tone

“Ok sure, she’s gorgeous, and she smells like flowers, and she’s smart, and brave,” At the precise moment it hit me like a fifteen foot wave, “Oh god, I like Bella, Alice, what am I gone to do. I can’t like Bella, she’s a human. It would never work.”

“Calm down, will you.” she said almost laughing

“How can you expect me to calm down when just realized I’m in love with a human.” Wow did I just say I was in love

Alice smiled, “Edward, its ok. You wont hurt her. That was my vision, I saw you two together.”

“Visions change, what if I all of a sudden decided to..”

She cut me off

“Edward, you wont.” she said as she placed a hand on my cheek, “You said so yourself..” she then stood up and added, “You love her.” she added with a smile as she walked out of my room, shutting the door behind her.

Great Edward, I thought, as if you don’t have enough to deal with when it comes to Bella Swan, you have to go and make it worse by falling in love with her. How could you be in love with her, you’ve only spoken to her once, there’s no way, her vision has to be wrong. Even if I was in love with her, it would never work. I’m a vampire, a monster, and she’s a delicate human. Besides when someone loves someone else there shouldn’t be any secrets, and I’m hiding a secret so big I could never share it with not just her, but any human. I spent the rest of the night thinking about Bella and trying to convince myself that I had no feelings for her.

The next day was cold wet one, the inter ground was covered in ice slick. As I drove myself and Alice to school I couldn’t help looking forward to seeing Bella, but I was still in denial. I kept telling myself I only looked forward to seeing her because I enjoyed her company, not because I cared about her deeply. Deep down I knew I shouldn’t allow myself to be anywhere’s near her because although I seemed to have feelings for her, I still thirst for her blood, and was dangerous to her.

Once we arrived to school, we crowded near Rosalie’s car. While we chatter I watched Bella carefully pull into her parking spot, four spaces away. She was obviously not use to driving on ice covered roads. I couldn’t but help watch her as she removed herself from her car and looked at the snow chains on her truck. Judging by her face she had no idea they were there. How do you not know there are snow chain’s on you vehicle?

Just then I hear a high-pitched screech, I snapped my head up to see where is had come from. There was a dark blue van that was skidding, tires locked and squealing against the breaks, spinning wildly across the ice of the parking lot. And it was head straight for Bella, who was standing frozen with fear. Not her! I screamed in my thoughts, a million things went through my head, but I knew I had to do something. I couldn’t let her die, I didn’t care if anyone saw me, although I knew no one would notice because everyone would be too worried about the two survivors, and Bella would survive, even if I went down for it.

I sped over to her with the speed at which only a vampire could travel, knocking her to the ground, using my body to try and break her fall. I heard the thud as her head hit the ground, but she was alive and that’s all that mattered. I had knocked us all the way over to the tan car parked next to her truck. Then I noticed the van was still headed for her. It had curled around the end of her truck and was still spinning and sliding, about to collide with her. I knew the van wouldn’t hurt me, but it would kill her, my arms instinctively shot out in front of her, stopping the van just a foot from her face. My hands had left a dent inside of the van. I griped the van and swung her legs around till the hit the tire of tan car. Just then there was a loud thud and the van stopped on the asphalt- exactly where her legs had been.

We were silent as we stared at each other. Shit! I thought to myself Had anyone saw? Did I just expose my family?More importantly was she ok?

“Bella, are you all right?’ I asked, still shielding her safely in my arms, I have to admit I liked the way it felt to hold her so close.

“I’m fine.” she said, shaken up, rightfully so. She tried to get up, but I had her held close in my grasp.

“Be careful,” I warned as she struggled to get out of my hold, “I think you hit your head pretty hard.” I was hoping she had hit it hard enough to where she didn’t remember that I was no where’s near her to have saved her the way I just did.

“How did you get over here so fast?” she asked Damn!

“I was standing right nest to you, Bella.” I said in a serious tone, hoping she would challenge me on it.

I let her sit up and looked at her with immense concern, finally the rest of the by standers found us. She went to stand up, but I pushed her shoulder back down.

“Just stay put for now.” I said

“But it’s cold.” she complained, I had to chuckle. “You were by your car.” she added.

“No, I wasn’t.” I said in a hard tone. God damn it, I just saved her life, does it really matter how I did it, can‘t she just let it go and be grateful? I said to myself

“I saw you.”

“Bella,” I said looking her dead in the eyes hoping she’d read my expression and let it go, “I was standing right next to you, and pulled you out of the way.”

“No” she stated, determined to argue with me about this.

“Please, Bella.” I begged

“Why” she demanded

Because I’m a blood thirst vampire are you happy now! I yelled at her in my head.

“Trust me.” I pleaded with her, just then she looked at me as though an alarm had went off in her head, as though she understood that I needed her to keep quite about it.

“Will you promise to explain everything to me later?” she asked

“Fine” I stated very irritated, Christ she’s even more annoying than Alice, there’s no way I can be in love with her. I don’t care how pretty or smart she is, or even how great she smells, oh god that smell.

Just then the EMTs broke my thoughts and asked if I needed a stretcher, I refused. Bella tried to do the same thing, but I told them she had hit hr head and probably had a concussion. She must have thought I was a traitor, but I was really did have her best interest at heart, and wanted to get her back for pestering me. More than that I wanted to make sure she was really ok. Something told me she was the type of person who could be bleeding from the eyes and would swear they where just fine. I climbed into the front of the ambulance and we headed for the hospital.

Once we arrived I went to make sure that it was Carlisle who would treat her, because I wanted the best for her, and Carlisle was the best. Once I found him he was already aware of the situation due to a frantic phone call from Rosalie telling him what I had done. She had no concern for Bella, but was worried that I had exposed us. Carlisle agreed with me that Bella was what was important at the moment, an said we’d deal with the other issue after. I decided to go and check on Bella myself while Carlisle reviewed her chart and x rays in his office.

They had placed her in the emergency. When I walked in I saw her laying there batter and bruised, but other wise ok. She had her eyes closed and looked so peaceful, I didn’t want to disturb her. Then I noticed Tyler Crowley, bandaged from head to toe, mumbling apologies in a bed next to her. Dumb ass kid needs to learn how to drive, I hope Chief Swans takes your license for nearly killing hi daughter.

“Is she sleeping?” I asked him. Just then her eyes popped open and glared at me. Man she’s even cuter when she’s pissed at me I thought in my head.

“Hey Edward, I’m really sorry-” Tyler begin to apologize, but I cut him off.

“No blood, no foul.” I said with a smiled as I took a seat on the edge of his bed in order to face Bella.

“So whats the verdict?” I asked her, knowing she was perfectly fine.

“There’s nothing wrong with me at all.” she stated, “but they wont let me go.”

I knew Carlisle was coming to discharge her because I could hear him gone over her chart.

“Don’t worry, I came to spring you.”

Carlisle walked in to the room, and Bella’s mouth dropped. Obviously she had never seen Carlisle. I had to laugh to myself. I trailed off in my thoughts again only to be disrupted, this time by Carlisle.

“Your x-rays look good,” he stated, “does your head hurt? Edward said you hit it pretty hard.” he asked.

“It’s fine.” she stated throwing a sharp look at me for tattling on her.

Carlisle explained to her that she was free to go home, but to return if felt dizzy or had blurred vision.

“Can’t I go back to school?” she scoffed

“Maybe you should take it easy today.” Carlisle replied.

“Does he get to go to school?” she shot me another look.

“Someone has to spread the good news that we survived.” I said smugly, but I knew the whole school was in the waiting room. Bella tried to stand only to stumble over her own two feet, which had nothing to do with the accident. Carlisle caught her and looked concerned.

“I’m fine.” she stated again.

Carlisle recommended that she take some Tylenol for any pain she might have and discharged her from his care. AS soon as Carlisle’s attention was focused on Tyler she moved to my side.

“Can I talk to you for a minute?” she hissed at me, I knew exactly what she wanted.

“Your father is waiting for you,” I said trying to distract her.

“I’d like to speak to you alone, if you don’t mind.” she pressed. Christ woman, your alive because of me, just let it go and move on, I said to myself as I glared at her. Her pestering was irritating me more and more. She looked me in the eyes and I knew she wasn’t letting up. Well might as well get it done and over with, I thought as I lead her down the long hall. Once we reach the smaller hall I spun around to face her.

‘What do you want?” I stated, letting her know just how annoyed I was.

“You owe me an explanation.”

Are you kidding, if it weren’t for me you’d be a permanent part of the pavement in the Forks High School parking lot, why the hell are you so ungrateful about this, I thought.

“I saved your life,” I reminded her, “I don’t owe you anything.”

“You promised.”

“Bella, you hit your head, you don’t know what your talking about.” She glared at me as though I had hit a nerve.

“There’s nothing wrong with my head.”

I glared back at her, hoping she’d fear me and finally leave it alone.

“What do you want from me Bella?”

“I want the truth. “ she answered.

I knew I couldn’t read her mind, and I was curious and wanted to know what her theory was, because I was sure she knew I was somehow different.

“What do you think happened?” I snapped

“All I know is you weren’t anywhere near me- Tyler didn’t see you, ether, so don’t tell me I hit my head too hard. The van was gone to crush us both- and it didn’t, and your hands left dents in the side of it- and you left a dent in the other car, and your not hurt at all- and the van should have smashed my legs, but you were holding it up….”

Wow she could have at lease made in interesting I thought, but the truth was she was spot on, I had to at lease try and make her think she was a crazy before she figured out she right.

“You think I lifted a van off of you?” I asked. She just glared at me, “Nobody will believe that you know.” I added

“I’m not gone to tell anybody.” she stated, I couldn’t help but believe her.

“Then why does it matter?”

“It matters to me, I don’t like to lie. So there had better be a good reason why I’m doing it.” Ok this was getting tiresome.

“Can’t you just thank me and get over it?” I asked obviously irritated to no wits end.

“Thank you.” she said staring into my eyes, and I knew I hadn’t heard the last of this.

“Your not gone to let this go are you?” I asked, I didn’t need to read her mind to know the answer.

“No.” she state simply.

Ok I said in my head, I’ve got to get out of here before I lose my cool.

“In that case…I hope you enjoy disappointment.” I said as we scowled at one another in silence.

“Why did you even bother?” she asked

“I don’t know.” I answered, I couldn’t tell her it was because I thought I might be in love with her, she’d think I lost my mind. We glared at each other again, and I finally stormed off. Ungrateful little witch, I thought.
